More trying to interfere with the election process by the leader of the Banana Republican Party. He is running scared of the mid-terms.

I think he’s starting to forget what he had for lunch yesterday.

Yesterday I discovered that there are two versions of the Ten Commandments.

There’s the standard Baptist version, which I assume is the one they want to post in schools down in the Bible Belt. And then there’s the Catholic version.

In the Catholic version, the second commandment, the one about no idols or graven images, is dropped completely and the remaining eight Commandments are bumped up one. It’s obvious why they did this, since any Catholic Church worthy of the name is idols and graven images from floor to ceiling on all four walls.

This left them one short so they split number 10, the one about not coveting your neighbor’s wife and livestock, into two. Number 9 is don’t covet your neighbor’s wife and number 10 is don’t covet your neighbor’s livestock and other goods.
This doesn’t really make sense since in Old Testament days wives and livestock we’re both considered personal property.

New Testament was intended to be more clarified, that is, a lot of things were suggestive metaphors, not thibgs to actually do, and less violent such as Leviticus. But human behavor still wants to override all that. Be a good human always applies, but obviously we’ve got issues.

According to this, it’s not true about the Catholic version according to this- They just included the idea in the first commandment. “Common misconceptions to avoid
“Catholics removed the commandment about images.” They did not. Catholic and Lutheran traditions include the prohibition of idols within the first commandment against other gods, but the content is still there; the count to ten is maintained by distinguishing two coveting commands.”

I’m trying to think if I ever saw a “graven image” of God in any Catholic Church (or for that matter an Episcopalian one which I always considered Catholic Lite.) The only one I can remember for sure is the Creation of Man in the Sistine Chapel. The images I can remember from Catholic churches are saints, Jesus and biblical figures. How Michelangelo got a pass IDK but religion has always been as good at convoluted reasoning to get the desired pronouncement as politics is.

Egypt had 42 “Commandments”!:

Assessors of Maat

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Assessors_of_Maat

Chapter 125 of the Book of the Dead lists names and provenances (either geographical or atmospheric) of the Assessors of Maat. A declaration of innocence corresponds to each deity: it is pronounced by the dead himself, to avoid being damned for specific “sins” that each of the 42 Judges is in charge of punishing.
