[One Fatality] Helicopter Rescue Requested for Two Patients After Vehicle Goes Over Embankment by Baker Beach

Around 10:30 a.m. on June 21, Westhaven Fire, Fieldbrook Fire, and Arcata Ambulance were requested to the scene of a reported vehicle collision over an embankment near Baker Beach.

The dispatcher stated the traffic accident occurred off Scenic Drive near Kidder Road.

The two fire chiefs on scene stated two patients needed extrication via helicopter from Baker Beach. An additional fire engine and ambulance were also requested.

Cal Fire copter 909 has been requested in place of the Coast Guard helicopter.

Update 11:03 a.m.: Scanner traffic indicated that two helicopters were requested, both the Coast Guard copter and Cal Fire copter 909. Subsequent traffic indicated one copter would not be needed and confirmed one patient was deceased.

The Coast Guard copter is on scene, the Cal Fire copter has been canceled.

Update 11:45 a.m.: The flight radar showed the Coast Guard helicopter arrive at scene and then proceed to an area hospital. Scanner traffic indicates that the helicopter has been requested to return to the scene to recover the deceased individual before turning the body over to the Humboldt County Coroner.

The coroner is en route to the scene from the Fortuna area.

I am so sorry that accident claimed the life of someone. May they RIP. I also hope the second party that went to the hospital will completely recover and be fine. Condolences to the deceased persons family and friends. And a heartfelt thank you to all the first responders for their work at that sad scene.
