‘Tridemic’ Fueling Increases in Rates of Reported Respiratory Illnesses Nationwide

Child vaccine

Press release from the Humboldt County Department of Health and Human Services:

Health Officials are urging community residents to take precautions this season after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported an increase in COVID-19 cases and earlier-than-expected flu activity and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) cases across the state and country.

The “Tridemic,” as some have labeled it, is fueling increases in rates of reported respiratory illnesses nationwide.

Anyone can contract any of these respiratory illnesses, but those most at risk of developing severe complications from influenza, COVID-19 and RSV tend to be young children and infants, and adults aged 65 and older, as well as individuals with compromised immune systems.

Humboldt County Health Officer Dr. Candy Stockton said, “Because there is currently no vaccine for RSV, and because getting RSV and flu or COVID at the same time is especially dangerous for young children, it’s really important that we all do our part to help protect our kids by making sure we are up to date on both our flu and COVID vaccines this year.”

Respiratory illnesses like flu, COVID-19 and RSV can be prevented with good respiratory hygiene, including regular hand washing, avoiding close contact with individuals experiencing cold or flu-like symptoms, covering coughs and sneezes with a tissue or shirt sleeve, and disinfecting high-touch surfaces. Masking is also an effective countermeasure, with N95 or KN95 respirators providing the highest degree of protection. As with COVID-19, babies and toddlers under 2 years old should not wear a mask.

Following these tips as well as getting a seasonal flu vaccine and keeping up to date on COVID-19 vaccinations and boosters are important measures in keeping yourself and those around you safe.

To schedule a flu shot, contact your local pharmacy or primary care provider. To schedule a COVID-19 vaccine or bivalent booster, visit MyTurn.ca.gov.

Following these simple health precautions should be a no brainer….
If you fall into the risk category there is no reason not to.
If you don’t, show resp for those that are…

No, this is not some propaganda being put out by
HCHHS to try and scare you..

These PRs sure do read like fear mongering. Not surprised as fear is usually highly motivating and these state workers need to keep people in check to preserve their “authority”. Plus it’s always advantageous to say people should act “for the children.”

There are a number of things that are impossible to avoid. You may not be aware some is coming down with something. Indeed they may not know themselves.. But everyone can minimize the chances of catching or spreading something by washing hands or wearing a mask if especially vulnerable. So just shut up about the “fear mongering”. No one wants to get sick. At best it’s inconvenient. At worse it’s fatal. It’s not necessary to be afraid. But it’s sensible to be cautious. It is irrational both to be too afraid to go out or be so oblivious as to not care.

It’s irrational to suggest the whole state of 37 million get a full slew of covid and flu shots because of this. If you’re at high risk then that might be a reason or if you are scared by the PRs. But for everyone who might be near a kid to get all the shots is unreasonable. Absolutely it reads like fear mongering.

I totally agree with you, Hayforker. They have to keep feeding the fear as a way to control.

And let us all not forget that this “tridemic” is the predicted results of the “totally reasonable precautionary measures” that these same people recommended over the last two years. These increased level of flu and rsv death in children are exactly what we were told was “worth it” to slow covid when they insisted that children avoid their normal gathering in the past few years.

Hey can you please refrain from using logic? It’s gonna ruin the overly emotional fear based vibe these PRs are intended to induce.

So typing “shut up about the “fear mongering”” was a waste of electricity? You did it anyway. No hand washing for you…

Why not local flu n rsv case numbers along with weekly covid report? Hard to abide inconvenience without evidence risk is greater than pre-covid years.

“Some California children’s hospitals are straining under a surge of RSV, a respiratory illness that can cause babies to struggle to breathe.
At least three major children’s hospitals say they have experienced either a strain or a stretching of resources because of RSV. The illness normally peaks in winter, and doctors say it’s unusual for there to be such high levels in October.”

Antibiotics are in very short supply, of course no one saw that coming, even though it was pointed out a year or more ago.
What was done about it? Nothing.

I’ve never questioned the locally reported covid numbers, other than noting some cases across country that were “with” not “because of”. home testing undoubtedly means underreported local covid cases

Perhaps we’ll get a realistic covid origins investigation with new Congress. Most obvious and likely origin is lab leak since they were doing covid gain of function research within hundreds of yards of wet market where early cases reported, US & China conspiring in coverup implies they’re both complicit – US funded research or transfered from US lab?

Hundreds of yards? Your sure of that?
How many hundreds?

This from an Atlantic article.

What are the odds that, if the virus did emerge from the Wuhan Institute of Virology, the first known cases would show up more than eight miles away, in a market complex across a river from the putative site of any “laboratory-associated incident”?

If you use Google Earth you can see the lab and the River.

Mmm, yes. New supposed Speaker, McCarthy, will be rode hard by nutty Freedom Caucus to “investigate” all sorts of stuff, including conspiracy theories. But just watch that Congress bumble and infight, McCarthy pulling his hair out (like Ryan and Boehner before him) at Freedom Caucus nuts. Best to learn from the midterms and not waste time and effort “investigating” what the majority public isn’t interested in. But on the other hand, go ahead and annoy the voters; revisit the likes of Afghanistan withdrawal; Alejandro Mayorkas’ (who? says the public), Covid origins, and “terrorists” coming to get us from across the border. Want to investigate terrorists threatening America? Shoulda signed on to the Jan6 Hearings.

I see a story that Dem mega donor, FTX! Crypto exchange founder Bankman Fried and crew reveled in amphetamines, claim they contributed to success in building their now bankrupt $16B empire. That started much better than our local tweakers but ended worse than Madoff or Enron. His pupils do indeed look oversized in pictures with administration elites and Clinton.

Bitcoin’s decline in value is ‘deadly blow’ for El Salvador
After the world’s most popular cryptocurrency fell 21% this week, the Central American country lost an estimated $70 million of its public finances“This has a very high opportunity cost for a country like El Salvador, because it represents, for example, almost the entire budget of the Ministry of Agriculture in a country where half the population suffers from food insecurity,” said the economist in a telephone interview from San Salvador. The smallest country in Central America, El Salvador has a poverty rate of 26%, according to the World Bank.

The practically overnight collapse of cryptocurrency exchange FTX has set off a host of questions about its founder, Sam Bankman-Fried, and the future of cryptocurrency, which can all be very confusing to people who aren’t that smart. The Onion translates what happened at FTX into answers that even our dumbest readers can understand.

Overall, in 2021 and 2022, Bankman-Fried donated nearly $38 million to various candidates and PACs, mainly giving his cash to Democratic candidates and left-wing groups, according to Federal Election Commission filings (FEC). The majority of his political givings, though, went to the Protect Our Future PAC, a group founded in January that is dedicated to boosting candidates committed to preventing future pandemics.

With some Democrats deciding to re-commit funds from FTX donations towards charity or other party campaigns after the crypto exchange’s bankruptcy, Rep. Maxine Water, D-Calif., told FOX Business she doesn’t “want to get into that” topic.

Cuban’s disdain of the two-party system is no secret, as the billionaire even flirted with running for president as an independent, third-party candidate.

And the Salvadoran people did not invest in Bitcoin.
Their government did.

You just insulted a whole nation of people.

“The practically overnight collapse of cryptocurrency exchange FTX has set off a host of questions about its founder, Sam Bankman-Fried, and the future of cryptocurrency, which can all be very confusing to people who aren’t that smart.”
El Salvador wasn’t confused or dumb, it was deceived.
Nice pretzel twisting though.

As far as El Salvador goes it depends on when they bought in.
In 2010 it was $0.09
Today it’s $16,577.

Sad story but true. I knew about it in 2010…
