EPD: Crisis Negotiators Talk Down Armed Standoff on Eureka’s P Street

On June 17, 2026, at approximately 12:00 p.m., officers with the Eureka Police Department (EPD) responded to the 1600 block of P Street following a report of an individual threatening to harm others, making suicidal statements, and brandishing a weapon.
Due to the nature of the incident, members of the Community Safety Engagement Team (CSET), detectives from the Criminal Investigation Unit (CIU), and patrol officers responded to the scene.
Upon arrival, officers safely evacuated the victim from the immediate area without injury and initiated negotiations with the involved individual. Mental health professionals with the Crisis Alternative Response of Eureka (CARE) also responded and assisted throughout the incident.
Following successful negotiations conducted by CSET and CARE crisis negotiators, the individual complied with officers’ instructions and was safely detained and transported to a local hospital for further assessment and care.
EPD extends its sincere appreciation to Humboldt Bay Fire, City Ambulance, and CARE for their prompt and coordinated response. Their professionalism, collaboration, and dedication to service were instrumental in ensuring the safety and well-being of everyone involved.
The successful resolution of this incident reflects the strength of the ongoing partnerships between Eureka Police Department and behavioral health professionals in our community, as well as their shared commitment to providing a compassionate and comprehensive response to individuals experiencing a crisis.
