Fatal Crash on SR-29 in Lake County Leaves Three Children Injured, One Adult Dead, and One Arrested

On June 17, 2026, at approximately 10:05 p.m., California Highway Patrol Clear Lake Area units were dispatched to a solo-vehicle crash on State Route 29 near 11th Street in Lakeport. Upon arrival, officers discovered multiple subjects had been injured, including three juvenile passengers.
Northbound State Route 29 was closed to facilitate the landing of a medical helicopter. Two juvenile occupants were flown to UC Davis Hospital (ages 5 and 4), and one was transported to a local hospital via ambulance (age 8). One adult female sustained fatal injuries; her identity is being withheld pending notification to her family.
The suspected driver, Eileen Teresa Fred (22 years of age), was transported to a local hospital via ambulance. After receiving medical clearance, Fred was booked into the Lake County Jail for felony DUI and additional charges. Alcohol impairment is suspected to have been a contributing factor in this crash.
This incident is being investigated by the California Highway Patrol, Clear Lake Area. Anyone with information or knowledge of the incident is asked to contact the CHP Clear Lake office at (707) 281-5200.

Oh damn! So many lives broken, including hers, because of one bad choice.
My sincerest condolences to the families and friends of the victims; I hope the children recover completely, or as completely as they can, if the woman who died was their mom.
