Many Humboldt County parents are finding it difficult to get COVID-19 vaccines for their young children, with some being told local clinics don’t have pediatric doses and others driving hours out of the county for access.

“State public health officials want Californians to know that immunization is safe, effective, and the best protection available against COVID-19, influenza, and RSV, three viruses of concern.”

“Though there is no longer a pandemic, infections do tend to spike during the summer, with California seeing some of its highest surges last summer. More than 101,000 Californians have died from COVID-19 and more than 1 million Americans have died — exceeding by a wide margin American service member casualties in every war combined.”

According to Humboldt County Public Health Officer Dr. Candy Stockton, “We have had five deaths from COVID-19 this year, one of which occurred between June 1 and July 27.”
