A high-speed chase on Highway 101 has ended in a single vehicle crash under the Sunset 14th Street overpass near Arcata just before 9 a.m. on November 9th.

Scanner traffic indicated officers were in pursuit of a 4-door sedan through the safety corridor north of Eureka with speeds between 100-120 mph. Officers in pursuit discontinued the pursuit due to safety issues as the vehicle weaved in and out of traffic, cutting drivers off.

CHP and additional law enforcement officers were notified of the pursuit.

Shortly after, a single vehicle accident was reported under the Sunset 14th Street overpass. The driver, reportedly wearing a red and black jacket was spotted fleeing the scene of the accident eastbound on Sunset.

Emergency personnel responded to the scene of the accident while other law enforcement officers attempted to locate the subject.

Additional reports stated a male subject was laying behind a vehicle near the Redwood Apartments, screaming. At this time, it is believed that the male subject is the driver that fled, however, that information is unconfirmed.

City Ambulance is on scene to attend to the individual.

Scanner traffic indicates one person is in custody.

Closest place from Eureka. Likewise, Arcata criminals run to Eureka. Or Manila, Mckville, Hoopa, WillowCreek, Igo, Ono, or even Peanut.

Doesn’t sound like he was aiming for Arcata. That’s just where he crashed

How much will this cost us? First responders, hospital, court costs, a wrecked stolen car, state prison. There has to be a deterant for the good of law abiding people.
Just sitting incarcerated with his cell mate bubba and a bar of soap really isn’t punishment. Let’s try the middle eastern style of punishment like removing his hand in a public forum. Seems to work out fine there. Not many repeat offenders.

Horse thieves used to be hanged. There weren’t many repeat offenders then either.

Do you really think it’s a good idea to hang them. When you were done you never made any mistakes? So I take it you’ve never committed any crime. Good I’ll save the money on rope.

Hate to break it to you, but it’s highly doubtful there will be a cell mate named Bubba or any soap shenanigans. Most people don’t actually get raped in jail.

Ridiculous. So after removing someone’s hand how exactly does that make them a productive member of society? Do you really want to live in the Middle East where women are not treated equally? Due process and human rights recognition are the hallmarks of our Constitution. Middle Eastern societies are not model societies…

Yeah, and speaking out against the government, or religion, doesn’t fare well for anyone of any gender. Let’s hope there is no mistaken identity in those cases. “Oops, sorry!”

Unfortunately, in our “justice system” the human rights of the criminal are more important than the human rights of their victims. It never seemed “unconstitutional” to hang horse thieves back in the day when law abiding citizens rights were actually what was important. Now, even criminal illegals have more “human rights” than law abiding citizens thanks to the dirtbags being elected into office. It’s time to empty the trash, but the liberal lack of mentality keeps just recycling the same trash over and over expecting a better outcome. Liberals have failed.

I don’t know a lot about the case, but from what I’ve seen, a reward instead of jail time should be given to anyone who successfully fends of an attacker, right up to killing them. The less violent criminals who escape alive after their crimes the better since there’s no justice system in this country anymore.

The person will never be a productive member of society. Only a drag on the system. If you think rehab will help him, then let him live with you.

A one handed person wouldn’t have a problem Hitch hiking to SoCal where high speed chases are acceptable even when inocent people are killed.

No, they are not model societies, But we’re heading there pretty fast. Roe v. Wade out, election deniers in; truth out, liars in; democracy out, Orban renewal in. America, wasted on the Americans, Putin wins.

It’s very cool that officers curtailed this high-speed pursuit thus preventing needless injuries and property damage.

Lucky the driver that was going 100 to 120 mph through the safety corridor and weaving in and out of traffic did not kill someone. The CHP were smart to stop their pursuit of this goof ball. It was nice of the driver to crash so the CHP could get him. He needs to be taken off the road and have his speeder’s license revoked for a year, but I think he will continue to drive weaving his way along.

whoever that dipshit was was flying up the shoulder with their hazard lights on and could have easily killed someone. I was relieved to see they wrecked in the center median
