Citing Family Reasons, John Ford, Hum County’s Planning Director Who Recently Resigned, Requests Release From New Contract With Fort Bragg

Press release from the City of Fort Bragg:

John H. Ford of Humboldt County has requested release from his contract recently approved by the Fort Bragg City Council. Mr. Ford cited reasons of conflict in making the transition from his son’s middle school to Fort Bragg and his wife’s desire to remain where they are. Mr. Ford said, “This would place significant stress on my family and would not allow me to be as socially involved in the Fort Bragg community as the job mandates.” He goes on to further say, “This is a difficult realization for me. I love the community and was attracted by how cohesively the City Council works and by you as individuals. I am impressed with the staff I met and the impressive list of successful projects they have taken on. From my perspective, Fort Bragg is well run and has a bright future. Fort Bragg deserves a leader not torn between serving the community and needing to make every effort to be supportive of distant immediate family.”

“While we are all disappointed at the loss of Mr. Ford as our next City Manager, we understand the priority of family first and the need to follow priorities in this situation,” said Mayor Bernie Norvell. The City will move onward and forward in a positive direction.

In other news, the City has selected a new Police Chief and we hope to make that
announcement very shortly

I hope that doesn’t mean he is unresigning from Humboldt County.

Abatements are forever, and are tearing families apart. But he signs a contract and regrets it, and he wants to back out. I don’t think so. Card laid, card played. Enjoy the commute.

Have you driven a Ford, (out of Humboldt County), lately?

Matter of fact we have, and we don’t want him back.

Just because Paz won’t be breathing down his neck Ford wants to go back to doing it the same old way… Not!

I anticipated it would be the constituency of Ft Bragg that were going to put their collective foot down and reject his hiring…

I can’t believe he’s throwing his wife and kids under the bus for his own hasty decision.

That’s just poor planning, for a planning director.

Ha ha…my first thought, however biased, was since Paz has not been reelected…
Employees, including government employees have options in today’s labor market. I am sure that many county employees are re-evaluating the job satisfaction and effectiveness now that a they can look forward to completed audits, standard accounting practices, and working together to provide critical services to county citizens.

Unbelievable…

Do all Humboldt County employees have to pass an exam to prove that they don’t care?

How the fuck did this guy get this job in the first place…?

He needs to be disposed of, and replaced ASAP.

Did he not know where ft Bragg was when he took this job? This is an insanely unprofessional excuse. With this little foresight and/or such terrible communication with his family it’s no wonder the planning department has been such a mess under this clown

You’d think he’d get family buy in before accepting a job involving relocation. Now he’s simply unemployed during Biden’s Recession? Jobs are soon going to be hard to come by.

Interesting how inflation is a problem for the entire world right now, not just the US. Still all Biden’s fault right? Nothing to do with Putin’s war (which he was emboldened to undertake by his buddy Donny).

Joe, you have to be kidding.
Biden practically invited Putin to invade Ukraine.
This didn’t happen on Trump’s watch.

They aren’t just going to be hard to come by, with the new and improved price of fuel, they are going to be hard to get to.

Oh the irony!
Poor planning on his part, eh?
That should disqualify him from being on any planning department moving forward.

Oh boy- He didn’t know that the private school option sucks down there (He did not plan ahead before signing a contract?!)? Or did he get advance hate mail? Everybody on Mendocino coast I told was disgusted he was coming there. Guess he’s going to stay here after all?!!! This is like some version of hell- no weed money anymore, no grows yet he will use the satellite program to invade, fine and financially destroy anybody with an unpermitted outbuilding…all while the homeless population blows up. Disgusting and dishonest man…We need him out.

I am torn between Mark’s opinion and Farce here. The Farms are gone. Code Enforcement like every other weed business needs to close the doors and roll it up. If on the other hand they want to create job security by terrorizing the rural citizens with satellites and abatements on homes and outbuildings and tearing down everything. Well, this community is going to be blown wide open. We have a housing and economic crisis on our hands here now. If Code Enforcement doesn’t stop it will be what the Code Enforcement War III. Just leave us alone,
The community is hurt, reeling and spent. But like Ukrainians, we will fight tooth and nail for our homes and family.

They are just getting started, if you think anything is just dumb luck and happenstance, you really need to wake up and recognize this is the same power grab by the rich and powerful, that has unified moneyed interests since the dawn of time

The stage craft and production gets better with every failure just an opportunity to do it better the next time.

I’ve signed employment contracts before. Usually if a contract for employment is required it’s because it’s a real suck ass job scenario. Poor compensation, ass hole boss, undesirable location, difficult work conditions etc..yada yada. I’m good with stealing the bosses personal aircraft to leave those kinds contract situations to save ones soul. Yep.

Agree. Especially small cities where it is not uncommon for city council members are prone to micromanaging and have limited experience in managing anything.

Kind of like signing a compliance agreement?

You know the ones that scumbag Ford has made the people that got his abatements, (“legitimately” or not), sign under duress, that there is no way out of?

F**k him. I hear Elon Musk is looking for people to populate Mars. Let that be his alternative. Otherwise, like they do with the abatement victims, make him deal with it, without end.

They have wives and kids, too. Why should this scumbag get special treatment he refuses to extend to others?

He shouldn’t. If he wants out of his contact, make him nullify every compliance agreement, and also make him resolve every unresolved abatement before the end of his employment with Humboldt County, or he loses his retirement….

I think that gives him about a week.

He better get busy…

These people have wives and kids, and they aren’t happy either.

Teachers sign contracts. CEOs sign contracts. Actors sign contracts. Uber drivers sign contracts. Medical doctors sign contracts. Signing a contract is agreeing to conditions of employment and little more.

Looks like the Ft. Bragg City Council finally got around to reading the stories about Mr. Ford’s shenanigans with Bushnell and her, uh, “clients.”
