Press release from Humboldt County Public Health:

Humboldt County Public Health reported today 117 new cases of COVID-19, bringing to 17,626 the total number of confirmed positive cases for the virus. No new deaths or hospitalizations were reported. One previously reported hospitalization has been removed from the count after it was determined to be from another jurisdiction.

As of Tuesday, Public Health and other local vaccinators have administered a total of 173,938 doses of COVID-19 vaccine. Local vaccination data has been updated on the Humboldt County Data Dashboard. Highlights include:

  • Since the last weekly report on Jan. 26, a total of 739 vaccine doses were administered, and 403 additional residents completed their vaccine series.
  • Approximately 64% of the county’s total population was fully vaccinated as of Tuesday.
  • A total of 86,792 residents, or nearly 73% of the county’s vaccine-eligible population aged 5 and older, were fully vaccinated. More than 7% of the vaccine eligible population aged 5 and older have been partially vaccinated as of this reporting period.

As daily reports of positive cases for COVID-19 continue to fall below record-high numbers seen in January, local health officials are expressing optimism that the county is past the recent peak of cases. However, community transmission of the virus and confirmed cases remain high and officials caution that an increase in hospitalizations tends to lag a few weeks after the peak.

Vaccinated and unvaccinated residents are encouraged to take protective measures against the highly transmissible Omicron variant by washing hands frequently, wearing a well-fitted mask approved by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), distancing six feet from others when possible and avoiding crowds and poorly ventilated spaces. The state remains under a mandatory mask requirement order in all indoor public spaces through Feb. 15.

COVID-19 vaccines remain effective against the virus, but CDC data shows their effectiveness at preventing infection or severe illness wanes over time, especially in people aged 65 or older. With the recent emergence of the Omicron variant, the CDC and other public health officials are recommending eligible individuals aged 12 and older receive a booster, which increases the immune response and provides additional protection against infection and severe disease.

While vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals are both at high risk to get Omicron, the risk of severe outcomes for those who are unvaccinated remains significantly higher. According to the latest data from the California Department of Public Health (CDPH), unvaccinated people are eight times more likely to get COVID-19, 13 times more likely to be hospitalized from COVID-19 and 22 times more likely to die from COVID-19 than those who are vaccinated with a booster.

As always, Humboldt County’s vaccination and testing services are available free of charge. While walk-ins are allowed at all Public Health clinics and some pharmacy vaccination sites, appointments are strongly recommended for all vaccinations and are the best way to ensure a shot is available during your visit. Appointments can be made at MyTurn.ca.gov.

Vaccines, including boosters, are available at local pharmacies. To check the availability of a specific vaccine, visit the vaccines.gov page, or text your ZIP code to 438829 to locate a nearby pharmacy offering vaccines.

See the schedule below for specific Public Health vaccination and testing clinic dates, times, locations and available services. Questions about clinic services can be directed to the Joint Information Center at 1-707-441-5000.

Good news folks! We’re over the peak on the downhill side. Let’s get back to normal like many other modern countries in the world.

Everyone has a chance to define their own “normal”. For some, hiding at home may be their choice. Most will rather quickly resume their past behavior.

Technically every time the electoral college votes counter to the majority of US citizens, the election is a farce.

The votes of individuals in small states should not carry more weight than the votes of individuals in larger states. I believe in the rights of individuals over the rights of states.

Biden’s 4.5-point victory margin is the second largest since 2000. Only Barack Obama’s 7-point win in 2008 was bigger. The same is true of Biden’s margin of 7 million popular votes. Obama won by 10 million in 2008. And, of course, the 81 million votes Biden won is by far the most any presidential candidate has ever received.

I believe that that individuals who are likely to have different needs than a large number of voters have at least some rights that can’t be voted away- say rural people versus urban people, say tribal people over groups, say homeless over homes, say disabled over unimpaired, say people with resources versus those without them, etc. Democracy is only decent when there are limits to what they can vote to take for themselves, mobs being rather infamous for not respecting individuals. Otherwise, why not “vote” ourselves ownership of Canada. We got more votes…

And Trump?

Trump wasn’t voted in, he was flushed, as was fitting, and then he took the inevitable plunge.

He had it coming.

And, yes, of course, then came the predictable “obstruction”.

Crooked Hillary was the only Democrat that could lose to Trump yet she felt she was anointed so did bother to campaign much in battle ground states. Now she’s coming as the party savior in 2024 when Biden/Harris implode?

Yeah, I was so impressed by Hillary in 2016, and Trump, that for the first time in my life, I didn’t vote.

I actually thought that Hillary would have been worse than Trump.

Trump probably could have only won against Hillary.

If she runs, she will lose again.

Biden won the popular vote and the electoral college. Every legal challenge to the outcome of the election (more than 60 cases) were found to be without merit and dismissed – many by judges appointed by Trump.
Trump lost, get over it.

It’s a fair question, unfortunately the answer seems to be no. And we need to keep in mind that it is likly we would have lost some American soldiers and possibly more civilians had we gone with a traditional boots on the ground operation.

Whether or not we should be conducting warfare in Syria alltogether is another question. I personally support war with any Muslim theocracy but I understand that is a minority position.

And the sad irony is that a couple hundred thousand of those deaths could’ve been avoided if they had been vaccinated. Some 93% of all COVID deaths since June 2021 have been in the unvaccinated. Blaming Biden for the unwillingness of that proportion of the population seems a bit misplaced.

If you really think about it, about the way things were just before Covid19, and compare them to relatively recent history, say, 50 to 120 years ago, (one lifetime),
there was really nothing very “normal” about them…

For examples,

How long, in relative terms, has international commercial airline travel, been even considered, “normal”?

5, or 6 decades?

It’s not really all that “normal”.

And for plenty of people, it never was.

Car travel? Same thing.

10 or 12 decades, that’s it.

And not having the luxury of one’s own car, is not that uncommon.

For plenty of people, being able to afford a car, is not “normal”.

Biden topped $30 trillion of debt loaded on the backs of our children and grandchildren today. Great job. We’ve also learned today that Biden’s economy shed several hundred thousand jobs in January. Hooray! At least we’re sending our troops to fight on Ukraine when the bigger coming conflict is obviously with China beginning with Taiwan.

BTW has anyone received Biden’s free test kits in the mail? I ordered mine the first day and they still haven’t arrived after two weeks. Meantime two separate orders to Amazon each arrived in just five days. Maybe Joe should have contracted with Amazon to distribute the billion test kits instead of USPS.

Ah, the convenience of a short memory. Let me clarify that for you — at the end of the previous administration (pre-Biden), the US debt was at $27.68trillion. During the 2016-2020 period (again, before Biden took office), $7.773trillion of debt was added to the deficit. Some $3.5 trillion of that was due to the 2017 Tax Cut Act.

Trump’s Record tax revenues even after tax cut legislation was because the taxable economy grew faster than rates declined. How does the legislation contribute to deficits if it generated MORE tax revenue?

Except of course it didn’t, not if you actually use real dollars and compare it to GDP.

It is the persistent myth of the Republicans that tax cuts for the wealthy increase the economic growth and tax revenues and they have never worked.

That info is from over three weeks, and from a month ago, respectively.

Why would they choose info for two different weeks, or that old info?

And why would they also choose data from the whole State, and not just our County?

Because they cherry picked data, from cherry picked data, that they cherry picked, to try and scare you into getting vaccinated.

All that cherry picking is what we should all be worried about.

“ Dr. Scott Gottlieb says it’s time to consider dumping school Covid mask mandates
PUBLISHED WED, FEB 2 202211:51 AM ESTUPDATED WED, FEB 2 202211:54 AM

KEY POINTS
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention should adjust its Covid masking guidance for schools, Dr. Scott Gottlieb told CNBC on Wednesday.
“We’re going to probably have to tolerate, and probably should, a higher level of baseline spread,” the former Food and Drug Administration chief said.
The proliferation of the omicron variant in the U.S., on top of most school-age kids being eligible for vaccination, has created high immunity protection, Gottlieb added.”

At the rate we’ve been going for the last week, 70% of Humboldt, fully vaccinated, in 20.5 weeks.

June 26, 2022.

??(After the summer solstice?)?‍♂️

80% of Humboldt, fully vaccinated?

In 53.83 weeks

Valentine’s Day, (not 2022), 2023!♥️,♥️.

And we are right about on track, to hit 70% of the vaccine eligible population of Humboldt, 5 and older, on St. Patrick’s Day, 2022.?

(We are currently only at about 67.9%). ??☹️

Looks like my estimation, from about 12 weeks ago, that we would not hit 70% eligible population, fully vaccinated, by March 1st, and we wouldn’t hit 70% total population, fully vaccinated, by April 1st, were actually really, really, conservative estimates.

I might have 1 to 3 months to spare.

Someone actually said it would be 70% total population, fully vaccinated, by Thanksgiving, 2021…

Now, who might that have been?

Count natural immunity and we’re probably 90% already

ILoveplants

CDC finally recognizes natural immunity in new report released January 28…. “ The authors explain that before the period of the Delta variant of SARS-CoV-2, recent vaccination was more protective against new infection than natural immunity (20.9-fold lower in California vs 8.2-fold in early June). However, with the emergence of the delta variant, natural immunity was more protective against infection than vaccination (8.3-fold lower in California vs 35.0-fold in early September).

During the Delta period of COVID-19, the incidence of SARS-CoV-2 infection among those with “enhanced” immunity due to both vaccination and prior infection, were 32.5-fold lower in California and 19.8-fold lower in New York, whereas rates among those vaccinated alone (without prior COVID-19) were only 6.2-fold lower in California and 4.5-fold lower in New York. The rates among those with natural immunity were 29.0-fold lower in California and 14.7-fold lower in New York. The authors note that hospitalization rates followed a similar pattern.

The report finally acknowledges what many have suspected for a long time – that surviving COVID-19 provides excellent natural immunity to not only repeat infection but also to hospitalization and death for the Delta variant of COVID-19. “

The combination of post infection immunity and vaccination was the most protective.

And of course infection post vaccination typically carries fewer risks.

In over 65- yes you are correct

“ the worst group to be in is the non-vaccinated group without prior COVID-19. That group is the most likely to be infected, and if at risk for severe disease – older 65 years of age, obese, chronically ill or immunocompromised – the most likely to die from an infection. Therefore, if you are in this group, please get vaccinated! ”

And don’t listen to the chorus of anti vaxxers saying the vaccination is more likely to kill than the disease. In all ages, vaccination improved outcomes.

The report also said “Vaccination protected against COVID-19 and related hospitalization, and surviving a previous infection protected against a reinfection and related hospitalization during periods of predominantly Alpha and Delta variant transmission, before the emergence of Omicron; evidence suggests decreased protection from both vaccine- and infection-induced immunity against Omicron infections, although additional protection with widespread receipt of booster COVID-19 vaccine doses is expected. Initial infection among unvaccinated persons increases risk for serious illness, hospitalization, long-term sequelae, and death

Also from the report, which falls in line with what guest has been saying about the data being inconclusive. Point here is that the science is evolving:

“Importantly, infection-derived protection was greater after the highly transmissible Delta variant became predominant, coinciding with early declining of vaccine-induced immunity in many persons (5). Similar data accounting for booster doses and as new variants, including Omicron, circulate will need to be assessed.“

Yes. Evolving. Something anti vaxxers never do. No amount of “confidence” is going to make a difference to people who refuse all data anyway.

Data not being yet available is not the same as the premise being wrong. A reasonable person takes action based on history and other factors when the disease has not been around long enough to have generated convincing data rather than wait until a needed number of deaths or hospitalization at a future date. A lot of people are going to die in the meantime.

In other words, since it apparently takes at least 8 months or more for “high confidence” data to accumulate but the disease has only been around 3 or 4 months, but some data exists to indicate that vaccination is protection against death and hospitalization in early results, it takes a pretty pettifogging person to totally dismiss it , much less harp on it incessantly as meaningless.

I wholeheartedly agree with you- for the 65 and older group. “Old and/or weak”- step right up and get your experimental vaccine. “Young and healthy “- not necessary

Too bad it only lasts about eight months. I am not certain the strategy of becoming reinfected with COVID every seven months, or so, is the best course.

“The analysis included 26,528 participants “at risk” of reinfection and 917 reinfections identified between 2 July 2020 and 9 January 2022. The median time between positive episodes in those with reinfections was 302 days or almost 10 months”

Get sick approximately once a year- or- get a booster every 6 months, and still get sick approximately once a year.

What about all the vaxxed people who got it and never got tested?

Did you see the part about 917 reinfections out of 26,528 participants? If I’m doing my math correct that’s .035% reinfection rate…

Some interesting facts about the number 13. Here is just a sample.

Researchers estimate that as many as 10 percent of the U.S. population has a fear of the number 13, and each year the even more specific fear of Friday the 13th, known as paraskevidekatriaphobia,
Got to love that word…

Kym,…

??About that “73%” fully vaccinated, eligible population, thing. It should be… More like… 67.9%

I wouldn’t bug you, if I wasn’t so sure, (sort of like the 95 yr old average age thing, from Mendocino), only surer…

Like, for sure, for sure.

Fully vaccinated: 86,792. (See above).

Population:

“Total”: 134,623.

“Under 5”: 5.1%, so…
“5 and over”: = 94.9%, so…127,758ish

86,792÷127,758= 67.9%, (not 73%).

We are only at 67.9% of eligible.

Here’s where the problem is from…

“Under 12”: 12.1%, so…
“12 and over” = 87.9%,so…118,334ish

86,792÷118,334=73.34%,(rnd to 73%)

So, we are at 73% of the, “previously eligible”, group, the “12 and older” crowd.

But, we are only at 67.9% of the “currently eligible” group, the “5 and older”, crowd.

And that’s a fact.

Do you see where I have made an error?

If not…

??Do you think, “73%”, should be fact checked??‍♂️?

Or just, trust the, “experts”, again?

(I just fact checked it for you).

I rate, “73%”, “FALSE”.

(It’s misinformation)

You might be surprised who agrees with me.

Big deal, two weeks ago.

Yesterday, you, and the County, cited data from January 2nd, and January 9th.

Over 3 weeks, and over a month ago.

And then today, you call out info from January 19th?

Classic hypocrisy.

Check it out, it’s solid…

7 of 7, all associated, ALL boosted, in various combinations, were ALL infected with Omicron.

No ifs, ands, or buts.

And they were among the earliest Omicron infections.

I merely stated the date and who reported it. Made no further claims about what that relates to. Where as you have used the date claim on several occasions to dispute a study. And please don’t call me a hypocrite, that is very insulting. I posted the link to let people decide for themselves. You should thank me for posting the link.

It’s all about the natural immunity at this point. Even cdc admits it. See my comment above. Now that natural immunity has merit, all of the data calculations are WRONG. New calculations must include natural immunity… boy what a shitshow !

“All the cases were mild or moderate, providing support for the extra shots’ ability to fend off severe disease, death and hospitalizations.

Still, the findings demonstrate Omicron’s ability to evade immunity generated by even the most powerful COVID-19 vaccine boosters. That underscores the need to continue fighting the pandemic with measures besides vaccination, such as social distancing and masking, the authors said.”

Too bad we abandoned social distancing. Personally I would prefer if it became a permanent feature of our society. I don’t ever need to share an armrest with anyone, whether it’s a classroom a theater, airplane or a waiting room.

“Providing support”?

What does that even mean?

Like an armrest?

What you fail to even consider is that Omicron might not even have anywhere near the potential for severe disease, hospitalizations, and death…

It might not be due to the vaccines at all, that there are less associated severe illnesses, hospitalizations and deaths.

It might simply be that Omicron just doesn’t cause as many, and the vaccines are getting the credit for that, that they don’t deserve.

And, for those inevitable skeptics,(unless of course, it fits the narrative)

Here is a media bias fact check,
rating the factual integrity…

Note that it’s rated, “HIGH”, for factual integrity.

(That’s very important.)

“Proper sourcing”, Aaand,

“A clean fact check record”

What part of 7 for 7, don’t you understand?

There is no misunderstanding, unless it is yours.

And what part of,

“We rate Fortune Magazine…, …High for factual reporting due to proper sourcing and a clean fact check record,”, don’t you understand, either?

Just an old hippy, Neil. Oh, oops, now the whole band.

Looks like “creative expression” (code for misinfo?) has a price. But is OK. Spotiffy is an entertainment provider. Think: roller coaster ride. Down. Today Spot stock is 50% off pre-Malone high. Ouch!

New advisory links to “trusted sources” looks too little, too late. Shoulda had some additional reputable Docs on the show, and early on, even if maga-base (and fringe lefties looking for comfort) might have cringed. Better yet, don’t try and score audience unless a more skilled provider of entertainment content. Like fOX.
Oh.

Tucker is getting slammed by the GOP (by real Conservatives, try it some time) for backing Putin line on Ukraine. Ouch!

The entertainment industry. Take Rachel with you, please.

GoFundMe FREEZES Canadian ‘Freedom Convoy’ page after it raised $8 million; police call for military
As a GoFundMe page for the “Freedom Convoy” surpassed $10 million and was frozen Wednesday night, Ottawa’s Chief of Police Peter Sloly threatened to call in the military against the truckers who, in stark contrast to what they are being accused of, were handing out food to the homeless.

You should be thanking me, for giving you a reason to post the link…

And, about that erroneous “73% eligibile vaxxed” thing…

You got about a week, I figure, to “backpedal”.

I may have finally succeeded.?

And it’s been like pulling teeth, Grey Fox, it’s like pulling teeth, I tell you, to get it cleared up!

Then suddenly, a small victory.

It’ll be three months, next week, since I first mentioned it, remember?

And with any luck, it will be corrected by next week.

Accurate facts are important.

You’s got’s a week….

Kym mustn’t think it’s a even a very important issue.

What’s the significance of 5.1%?

Right?

Well, in terms of applying that discrepancy to the 893,526 total Covid19 deaths, it would be about
45,570 deaths.

How “insignificant” would that be?

I don’t have any trouble posting a link.

I didn’t post the link because even though I didn’t think the article was from what Kym calls “A tin-foil hat site”, I also wasn’t sure she would allow it.
I checked first for a media bias, and truth rating, it seemed ok, so I went with a screen shot.

I didn’t ask you for help.

You bug other people about posting links, too.

Like your doing them a big favor, too.

And then you throw it in THEIR face.

Some favor, thanks, I’ll pass.

If your center-right, a centrist, center-left, left, vote smart in future elections, both nationally and locally.

“After two years of threats and conspiracy theories, the militia-backed movement seeking to seize control of one of California’s most conservative counties, so far, appears to have prevailed — a major victory for far-right factions vying to replace more moderate Republican elected leaders across the state.

On Tuesday, Shasta County voters chose to recall Supervisor Leonard Moty, a Republican former Redding police chief, according to early election returns posted late Tuesday night.”
