A juvenile. A factor which has to be taken into account, regardless of the circumstances.

Juvenile has nothing to do with the problem. Kids three and four years old shoot one another. The student may also have a mental problem that needs to be addressed.

Name one person who has been shot by a REPLICA firearm. Just one.

A squirt gun is more dangerous.

I am talking about a real gun and not a toy. If you don’t know that our young society has a gun problem, you are not following Police news in regards as to what is happening. Most of these kids have a mental problem or want to be like someone they saw on the news. At the time South Fork High did not know if it was real or fake. Idiot arrested; case closed!

They’re pretty dangerous. I could name one person I personally knew who was shot dead by police because he had a replica firearm and showed it in public. I don’t blame the police who shot him.

Unless your a bad defense attorney begging for sentencing leniency, keep your day job John.

Beyond being held in a juvenile facility..Being a Juvenile is ONLY taken into account when it comes to personal information being publicly released by officials regarding an arrest/detention.. beyond that, NO special protections by way of law will be made for any age group regardless of circumstances, when it comes to possession of a weapon on school grounds, especially when the discovery of the weapon was preceded by threats of violence.

So it’s illegal for a kid to have a toy gun in his car? If he was pointing at other kids I could see them taking it away from him but I see No grounds for arrest

Not wise to have a toy gun. He would not be the first person to be shot over a toy gun.

No type of weapon fake or real are allowed on the school grounds for all schools in California. The student’s arrest is fine with me. Hope the student has learned their lesson, and it will be an example to the other kids not to try that stunt!

If it looks enough like a real gun, and if he were pointing it at people, it’s basically assault. Sorry, the People of California’s rules, not mine. Although, mm, the story doesn’t say anything about him having, indeed, pointed it at anyone. Again, we’re just going to have to let the People sort the matter out.

Don’t worry, just detained at this point. Hopefully he gets educated as to why it’s not a good idea to bring a gun, replica or otherwise, on to school campus.

It’s a dam great way to make a good kid bad Hopefully the officers treat him with the respect they would want for their child.

One could also speculate that this is a damn good way to alter the kid’s path for the better. Maybe after this little scare he will be more careful. As Ernie said, people have been killed over these things. This day at school could have ended very differently. Fortunately for all involved, it ended as it did.

Yes. If it was *his* car he’s at least 16 and old enough to know better. Teens these days were born well after Columbine and have been raised knowing you can’t bring real or fake guns, or even photos or drawings of guns, to school.

Remember when that kid accidentally shot himself with a drawing of a gun?

Oh, you mean Ethan Crumbley? No, that kid drew the gun and a person bleeding and the words “”Blood everywhere” and “The thoughts won’t stop help me”. NO, that kid shot *other* people that day. Right after his parents made light of the drawing etc. Not himself. Then his parents tried to escape to Canada, ran and hid in a warehouse to avoid arrest. And now are mad because freedoms.

I’m pro gun rights but certainly NOT for making light of school shootings or the active prevention of them. That is irresponsible.

Back in the day we went to school and our ‘firearm’ was a tool we needed on the ranch.

When I went to South Fork High in the early 60’s most of the students that lived out in the hills always carried a rifle or handgun in their vehicle for protection. It was a common sight to see rifles hanging on the back window rack. There never was one single problem with these weapons. Society sure has changed and if you own a gun, you are considered to be a “gun nut.” Times sure have changed regarding weapon use and most of it is not good!
