Victim Identified as Suspicious Death in Blue Lake Deemed Homicide
Press release from from the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Department:
The Humboldt County Coroner’s Office has identified the remains recovered Sept. 11, 2021, near Hatchery Road in Blue Lake as 65-year-old Eugene Steven Segal of Blue Lake.
An autopsy of Segal was conducted, and his cause of death was determined to be blunt force trauma and stab wounds. Segal’s manner of death has been determined to be homicide.
Anyone with information about this case is encouraged to call the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office at (707) 445-7251 or the Sheriff’s Office Crime Tip line at (707) 268-2539.

Kym, please keep us updated if you hear anything else on this. He was an elderly homeless community member in Blue Lake who was sweet and well liked. I ran into him frequently on the levee trail. He did not deserve this. I hope his status as a transient does not let his case get swept under the rug. He and our community deserve answers – please HSCO, pursue this case to the best of your ability.

A non-violent person getting brutally murdered like this…it sounds like there is a monster on the loose. Everybody be careful and attentive. This killer or killers need to be tracked down before it happens again…
There is killer among us. Probably same guy that stabbed his friends at the party in arcata lives in bluelake and is also a suspect in the Hawkeye case due to the fact they lived on the same property together. Hawkeye sold a gun for drugs that wasn’t his and someone didn’t like it. Drives a black mercedes g wagon with bullet proof doors. Can’t miss it only one around
Unfortunately, his status as a person earns him jokes about the way he was violently murdered at his expense.

If he had owned enough shit, that others didn’t feel self conscious about all the needless and redundant crap they own, he would’ve been remembered as a “Good American”, or “Valued Community Member” or, “My Kind of Guy” or “Great Neighbor”.
Why is it ok to make fun of this mans passing on the very same day it was discovered that another human was responsible for it?

You,re first report says victim of shotgun. But second report has autopsy declaring blunt force trauma & stab wounds with no mention of shotgun. Looking for reportage on subject. Place where body found is common to all us Blue

John, the first report over the scanner said the person was the victim of a gunshot (not a shotgun) but the Sheriff’s Department report above after a Coroner has had a chance to look at the body is more accurate.
The deceased is my brother. He was very loved. My parents are dead and this is something I’m glad they didn’t have to witness. I have very little information too. At first I thought he was shot and now i find out here this way. Please anybody with any information please call the sheriffs office. He was a good gentle guy that didn’t deserve this.

Cindy. I know “Gino” well. We have been friends for many years. He was a good man. I am so sorry that this has happened. Know that your brother was well liked and loved by many. My thoughts and prayers go out to you and to him.
Thank you everybody. The coroner has been in touch but couldn’t tell me how it happened. I’ve called the detectives but haven’t heard back. It’s nice to know there were people that cared about him. I’ll call Emily.
