Drunk at 7am.

What woman or man behind the wheel , and passengers kids, and pets were spared getting murdered , or disabled by this inebriated soul? Count your lucky stars. Some people are drunk on the road everytime you drive? I mean who travels here to go on Lost coast adventures, or commutes to their job, or goes to go drop their precious offspring at school thinks running into a drunk is a real possibility? At 7 am ??

Can we just not?

who drives around assuming everyone is not busy on their phones dealing with their kids putting on their makeup eating messing with their stero? since when is it ever safe to assume the other drivers have full control of themselves or whatever they are driving ? if you arent expecting the unexpected you yourself are a danger to those around you and you shouldnt be driving . and for the record their are more drunks on the roads in the mornings as than when the bars close as people that to drink and get rides home sleep and get up for work still above the legal limit and they assume that they are merely hung over

A lot of pain??? Sounds more like he fell asleep behind the wheel after pulling an all-nighter that might have been going on all weekend since it was immediately after a holiday.

I doubt he felt any pain…..

People who have alcohol addiction are often self medicating for pain. Especially young people. I am sorry that you lack both understanding and empathy for a young person’s death.
Yes HOJ, I am addressing you.

One has to wonder if the “accident” was deliberate, and this poor soul had set out to kill himself. Some shots beforehand for Dutch courage. It’s possible. Drinking at 7:00 a.m. – I agree with Doggo, this fellow must have had a lot of pain. RIP, and much sympathy to the family.

Have y’all never lived in southern Humboldt? Partying until sunrise is extremely common and doesn’t indicate at all that this person was depressed. He might’ve just like to party. Or he might I just woke up drunk having not slept enough from the night before oh, don’t make up excuses for everybody. I was human garbage whenever I drunk drove in Humboldt county, it doesn’t matter at all how shity my life was or the fact that that mental illness made me drink, didn’t give me an excuse to f****** risk other people’s life and this guy didn’t have an excuse either. It’s lucky that he only hurt himself. Like that POS in the cove apartments who drove his kid to school drunk and wrecked less than a mile from his house, THERE IS NEVER AN EXCUSE, STOP SWEEPING YOUR COMMUNITIES ISSUES UNDER A RUG KNITTED FROM EXCUSES.

It’s AN ADDICTION and lack of Self Control or Higher Power. We all have pain. Some of us have a lot of it ! That is not a free pass to drink and drive . The complacent narrative around driving drunk is causing me pain….Uh oh…

The rate of DUI deaths and disabling accidents is huge! It’s criminal. Tragedy up close? Try being first on the scene to one of these COMPLETELY UNNECESSARY ACCIDENTS. People die. Kids loose their moms and their future. And Humboldt county is absolutely soft on the drunk selfish people who thoughtlessly get behind the wheel impaired.

So many are more concerned about the “alcohol” at 7am than the death of a 33 yr old young man. I am wondering how many people have driven after a night of drinking, staying up and having a “few too many” without ever considering that in the morning you will still have a BAL (blood alcohol level).
I do not condone drinking/using and driving by any means…. I also know most people don’t think about consequences of “what could happen” and how it could effect others.
Yes, he made a bad choice. Yes, he was driving “like he knew the road” (as so many do). Yes, he was being irresponsible and paid the ultimate price. Yes, he was someone’s son, grandson, brother, nephew, cousin, friend…. so many are heartbroken….
ever wonder who he was texting??!

Wrong! You can text anytime, It is sent as a packet when reception is available. That is one of the big advantages of texting when in poor reception, or over used areas. Texting often works when nothing else will. Important to know.

No one can do anything about the driver. That chance is gone. The commenters might be able to plant a thought about driving after drinking that saves someone else’s life and that’s worth the doing.

This*/\ is a word salad , and it relies on the premise that
1. “many people drive after a night of drinking”
And that
2 . “most people don’t think about consequences of “what could happen” and how it could effect others.”

What? Most people actually are considering the consequences when they conduct their lives . I hope!! Civil society and endless laws already in place actually requires us all to think about consequences of “what could happen” and how it could effect others!

We need help if “Me” is getting the up votes. What planet am I on?

Me does make a very good point. Texting while driving causes – are you ready? – 1.6 million crashes per year, and thousands of deaths. Has exceeded DUI for awhile now. But are cops stopping texters, is the question. Yes, it’s obviously problematic. This is a huge concern that I believe needs to be addressed far more vigorously.

Always wondered how much the cell companies are paying the insurance companies. Texting/cell phone deaths ARE skyrocketing, yet nary a word from the insurance companies?

$$$$$$$ more important than lives I guess.

Why would a cell company need to pay an insurance company for the end users misuse of a product. Not only is it a state law to not text and drive but it’s also stated in the user manual of the phone, you know, that book that nobody reads. They covered themselves. It’s like making a gun manufacturer paying for someone committing suicide.

True. But one has to ask WHY arent the insurance companies lobbying hard against cell use in cars? Its costing them dearly. (Its not illegal in every state BTW).
Just find it curious. (No discounts for non-users? etc.)

Humboldt County has more hypocrites then any other county. I am sure it’s a statistic somewhere. Everyone get off your high horses. What a bunch of jerks you all are. RIP Brother. You people are so judgmental an it’s sad that we have any people like you in our community. We lost a someone who was a really great person an he made a mistake and partied an woke up early an was still impaired. Instead of talking a bunch of shit you guys should just let the family an friends mourn. All you people do is talk shit on Facebook all day about everything. Shut the fuck up an get a life. He was always a really happy guy an many people loved him and he will always be missed

Thank you for always being a bright light for those you cared about. Please keep any negative comments to yourselves and show him the respect he much deserves and gained from anyone who knew him.
