Drunk at 7am.
What woman or man behind the wheel , and passengers kids, and pets were spared getting murdered , or disabled by this inebriated soul? Count your lucky stars. Some people are drunk on the road everytime you drive? I mean who travels here to go on Lost coast adventures, or commutes to their job, or goes to go drop their precious offspring at school thinks running into a drunk is a real possibility? At 7 am ??
Can we just not?
🕯🌳The crowd.
I almost got killed my a man driving around Arcata a couple of weeks ago in a big truck doing 50, 60 miles per hour….it was 1030am and he was arrested for being drunk.
who drives around assuming everyone is not busy on their phones dealing with their kids putting on their makeup eating messing with their stero? since when is it ever safe to assume the other drivers have full control of themselves or whatever they are driving ? if you arent expecting the unexpected you yourself are a danger to those around you and you shouldnt be driving . and for the record their are more drunks on the roads in the mornings as than when the bars close as people that to drink and get rides home sleep and get up for work still above the legal limit and they assume that they are merely hung over
No service on co e road not many on phone ! O was passed on blind corner w kids on car je passed 3 of us going at least 70 o tried ro catch him but he was gone ! Lots of assholes on road I always just pay close attention cause I almost get killed at least 2/times a day
Another accident with a very sad outcome. May he RIP. My condolences to his family and friends. Thank you first responders for all your help, you are appreciated!
Very sad
Was there a vigil?
Thanks for the respect for my friends family
Why isn’t this in the crime section? Didn’t he pass while committing a crime that could have killed an innocent person?
Alcohol related accident at 7am. 🙄
This person must have had a lot of pain. Sympathy to those left to mourn.
Thank you 🙏🏻
A lot of pain??? Sounds more like he fell asleep behind the wheel after pulling an all-nighter that might have been going on all weekend since it was immediately after a holiday.
I doubt he felt any pain…..
People who have alcohol addiction are often self medicating for pain. Especially young people. I am sorry that you lack both understanding and empathy for a young person’s death.
Yes HOJ, I am addressing you.
Sorry to see this but glad he didn’t kill anyone but himself.
Yep. We’re all lucky he didn’t take anyone else with him.
Drink. Drive. Die. Hopefully only yourself.
RIP.
Ill miss him very much.
Stan was my partner ! You will be missed by Lil Steve and Freeway Rick Ross and the Freeway Boys … Rip good buddy ! Some body please let me know when and where his services will be held
Yes this is a hard loss, Stan was a great guy like a brother to me… You will truly be missed bro! R.I.P Stan da man🙏🏾
One has to wonder if the “accident” was deliberate, and this poor soul had set out to kill himself. Some shots beforehand for Dutch courage. It’s possible. Drinking at 7:00 a.m. – I agree with Doggo, this fellow must have had a lot of pain. RIP, and much sympathy to the family.
Have y’all never lived in southern Humboldt? Partying until sunrise is extremely common and doesn’t indicate at all that this person was depressed. He might’ve just like to party. Or he might I just woke up drunk having not slept enough from the night before oh, don’t make up excuses for everybody. I was human garbage whenever I drunk drove in Humboldt county, it doesn’t matter at all how shity my life was or the fact that that mental illness made me drink, didn’t give me an excuse to f****** risk other people’s life and this guy didn’t have an excuse either. It’s lucky that he only hurt himself. Like that POS in the cove apartments who drove his kid to school drunk and wrecked less than a mile from his house, THERE IS NEVER AN EXCUSE, STOP SWEEPING YOUR COMMUNITIES ISSUES UNDER A RUG KNITTED FROM EXCUSES.
👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 Well said
It’s AN ADDICTION and lack of Self Control or Higher Power. We all have pain. Some of us have a lot of it ! That is not a free pass to drink and drive . The complacent narrative around driving drunk is causing me pain….Uh oh…
Try some vodka !
😉
See where this is going. ..
Shame on you who are passing judgement. Not only is that premature, but callous. May you never know this kind of tragedy up close.
Agree!!!
Love to the family & friends .
The rate of DUI deaths and disabling accidents is huge! It’s criminal. Tragedy up close? Try being first on the scene to one of these COMPLETELY UNNECESSARY ACCIDENTS. People die. Kids loose their moms and their future. And Humboldt county is absolutely soft on the drunk selfish people who thoughtlessly get behind the wheel impaired.
Live by it, Die by it.
So many are more concerned about the “alcohol” at 7am than the death of a 33 yr old young man. I am wondering how many people have driven after a night of drinking, staying up and having a “few too many” without ever considering that in the morning you will still have a BAL (blood alcohol level).
I do not condone drinking/using and driving by any means…. I also know most people don’t think about consequences of “what could happen” and how it could effect others.
Yes, he made a bad choice. Yes, he was driving “like he knew the road” (as so many do). Yes, he was being irresponsible and paid the ultimate price. Yes, he was someone’s son, grandson, brother, nephew, cousin, friend…. so many are heartbroken….
ever wonder who he was texting??!
Ive never drove drunk after 20 years of drinking. Bet you wouldn’t have said the same thing if he hit someone in your family and killed them.
Texting at Thorn Junction? Hard to do with no cell service here.
Wrong! You can text anytime, It is sent as a packet when reception is available. That is one of the big advantages of texting when in poor reception, or over used areas. Texting often works when nothing else will. Important to know.
also , don’t text and drive
Thankyou
To Me:
Thank you
No one can do anything about the driver. That chance is gone. The commenters might be able to plant a thought about driving after drinking that saves someone else’s life and that’s worth the doing.

This*/\ is a word salad , and it relies on the premise that
1. “many people drive after a night of drinking”
And that
2 . “most people don’t think about consequences of “what could happen” and how it could effect others.”
What? Most people actually are considering the consequences when they conduct their lives . I hope!! Civil society and endless laws already in place actually requires us all to think about consequences of “what could happen” and how it could effect others!
We need help if “Me” is getting the up votes. What planet am I on?
Me does make a very good point. Texting while driving causes – are you ready? – 1.6 million crashes per year, and thousands of deaths. Has exceeded DUI for awhile now. But are cops stopping texters, is the question. Yes, it’s obviously problematic. This is a huge concern that I believe needs to be addressed far more vigorously.
Always wondered how much the cell companies are paying the insurance companies. Texting/cell phone deaths ARE skyrocketing, yet nary a word from the insurance companies?
$$$$$$$ more important than lives I guess.
Why would a cell company need to pay an insurance company for the end users misuse of a product. Not only is it a state law to not text and drive but it’s also stated in the user manual of the phone, you know, that book that nobody reads. They covered themselves. It’s like making a gun manufacturer paying for someone committing suicide.
True. But one has to ask WHY arent the insurance companies lobbying hard against cell use in cars? Its costing them dearly. (Its not illegal in every state BTW).
Just find it curious. (No discounts for non-users? etc.)
As has ever been the case!
Rip very sad and will be very missed my many. Here in chicago 😭😭😭 he has his seatbelt on and it was an accident.
Humboldt County has more hypocrites then any other county. I am sure it’s a statistic somewhere. Everyone get off your high horses. What a bunch of jerks you all are. RIP Brother. Everyone will pass away one day and hopefully by then they will have learned a thing or two about respect and introspection.
I won’t be winning a Darwin Award in the process.
Traveling southbound in a minivan and alone … wonder if he was returning from dropping his child off at school.
Rip.
Reading these comments are very sad. He was a friend. Son. Brother. Uncle. Lost his way in life. Such a tragedy. A very sad day.
You people are so judgmental an it’s sad that we have any people like you in our community. We lost a someone who was a really great person an he made a mistake and partied an woke up early an was still impaired. Instead of talking a bunch of shit you guys should just let the family an friends mourn. All you people do is talk shit on Facebook all day about everything. Shut the fuck up an get a life. He was always a really happy guy an many people loved him and he will always be missed
I think we should all end on that note……I have drove drunk on these roads too many times to count, yet remember. I have lost a lot of friends to alcohol/drugs. Just another reminder too me to stay sober. EVERYONE makes mistakes, sometimes the ultimate price is paid
Thank you!! 😢🙏🏽❤️
He was great man, an honest man with great intentions for the world. He will be missed dearly. Stan was the best friend anyone can ask for, everyone’s memories of him are loving, laughter, positive energy..
We love you, we miss you. RIP
Honestly Humboldt…..
R.I.P. ,for there but by the Grace of God go I…
Please don’t leave burning candles at the scene.
Agreed.
I apologize for that! My heart was grieving and I’m customary to that !! I agree that it’s not a good spot and will only light when I’m there!! 🙏🏽 They’ve been lit in my home for days now 😢💔🙌🏽
Stan was a Humanitarian. He would consistently bless and help people, day in and day out.
He was an angel in the physical.
Such a good soul, so pure.
Absolutely heartbreaking.
Pray for his family & friends
If there had been a metal guard rail, he wouldn’t have landed in the creek! Just saying maybe it should be replaced with a safer option.
Agreed!
R I P Stan D Man you will be missed by Many. Your legacy will forever live. Pocivaj u miru. Nek ti je laka zemlja. Always love your boy Dee Žon.
🙏🏽
Stan will forever be in our hearts and those who knew him will always cherish his memories and friendship. He was an amazing person and it’s very sad to see him go especially in this way. Thank you for always being a bright light for those you cared about. Please keep any negative comments to yourselves and show him the respect he much deserves and gained from anyone who knew him. Losing a loved one is hard enough, we do not need to see some of the distasteful comments left by irrelevance. We love and miss you Stan ❤️
🙏🏽❤️
I can’t even read all these comments!! Stanley was my most best friend/ brother I have ever had!! He would do anything for anyone and had the biggest heart I have ever met!! One of the most loyal, kindest, respectful, honest humans ever!! I feel so much for him and his family and for anyone that knew him !! He was not drinking in the morning , but might have had alcohol in his system from the night before!!?? Idk!? but this breaks my heart and I’m devastated!! All that really knew him knew what a family man he was and I miss him!! His family misses him!! We all makes mistakes sometimes and judgement is not the answer!! Let’s love and learn, have compassion and make a better community 🙏🏽❤️🙌🏽
you always release the name of the fatality, why not this time. Trying to hide the fact that another local born and raised person lives like this, sweeping more of so hums truth under the rug?
