Local Band, NPK, is High Times Unsigned Band of the Week

Getting into the Spirit

Tao Ryce, Bassist for NPK

Southern Humboldt band, NPK*, was picked as High Times online Unsigned Band of the Week just yesterday.  Generally there are 4 groups picked for each month.  Then a poll is taken to see which will be featured in High Times the magazine.

NPK, a favorite of mine, is a high energy band that rocks the house. Their fans range from grandmothers to toddlers.  Both my sons like them. More than just another musical group, they are a socially conscious band that has raised more than $60,000 doing benefits for nonprofits in the area.

Get ready to support them when the voting starts!

They’re fantastic! NPK was one of the first bands to play a Surfrider benefit – they offered out of the blue and raised several hundred dollars, sorely needed when we were in the initial stages of reconstitution. The music is thoughtful and still so much fun – a combo that can be hard to pull off. Thanks for the link, Kym.

For other unsigned bands, check out my site, rock-or-not.com. We allow bands to upload their music and have visitors vote for or against them. It’s free to you, and I hope to make it larger with your help. If you just like listening to music, then join in on the voting.

Thanks.

Thanks for the explanation of the initialism. I should have known that; I’ve got Rhododendrons.

Joel, a friend reminded me that the band has also given the explanation of Natural Pain Killer ( a great song by them) as being the basis for the initials.

Hi Kym,
A couple of years ago I told Tanner I thought they could be a national act. I thought they were that good. He said they weren’t into the touring, etc. it would require, kind of a refreshing attitude, actually. Don’t know what they think today, but they could be big time if they wanted it.

I agree. I wonder if the High Times exposure will make a difference?
