SoHum Woman and Dog Die After Truck Goes Off Woman’s Driveway and Catches Fire
On the morning of Monday, September 29, Humboldt County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a residence in the 4400 block of Eel Rock Road for a death investigation, according to Lt. Jesse Taylor of the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO).
In spite of concerns among the neighbors, Lt. Taylor told us, “The death does not appear to be criminal in nature.”
Taylor said, “The decedent, an elderly female, along with her K9 drove off of her driveway, through a horse fence and down an embankment.”
She and her dog were killed when her truck caught fire.
A neighbor told us that Cal Fire Weott and Fruitland Ridge Fire Department both responded to the scene, along with numerous sheriff’s deputies.
Taylor said that HCSO has not yet released the name of the woman pending notification of her family.

So sorry to hear it. There but for the grace of Goddess go I / many of us.
Such a sad read this morning. I am so very sorry that accident claimed the life of the woman and her dog. My sincere condolences to her family and friends. May she and her dog RIP. A heart felt thank you to the Cal Fire Weott and Fruitland Ridge Fire Department for responding to the scene.
I’m trying to envision how this was possible but haven’t come up with a reasonable explanation yet.
Half the roads in this area are on the side of a cliff, and dirt drives are muddy from rain right now. I can picture a dozen driveways where this could easily happen even if someone were alert and prepared with 4-wheel-drive.
So sorry to read about this tragic loss 🙏🏻
Maybe mistake the accelerator for the breaks?
Have you ever been to Southern Humboldt? It shouldn’t be that hard to envision.
Any updates? Sorry for everyone’s loss.
This is sad…. I know the driveway and I know roughly what may have happened I haven’t personally talked to them since 2023… Thankfully family has been notified and hopefully everything will be taken care of please pay attention to your elderly neighbors and if you can check on them…😞
