Mendocino County Has 194 Cases, 11 Hospitalized–Gives Details on Businesses With Outbreaks

novel coronavirus Covid-19 MendocinoPress release from the County of Mendocino:

Mendocino County has seen a rise in COVID-19 outbreaks during the last couple of weeks. As of today, we have 194 cases of COVID-19, 11 of whom are currently hospitalized, including 1 who was transferred to Napa County for higher level of care.

Per Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines, 2 cases of COVID-19 in a workplace constitutes an outbreak. Mendocino County Public Health is working closely with all known locations who have COVID-19 positive employees to contain the spread, including giving orders to isolate cases, and quarantine close contacts (defined as being closer than 6 feet for more than 10 minutes regardless of facial covering use) for 14 days from last contact with a known case. All locations have been cooperative in containment and investigation efforts. Please see the identified locations below for situational awareness.

  • Sherwood Oaks Health Center in Fort Bragg has had 7 residents test positive for COVID-19, 2 of whom have been hospitalized, and 1 of whom has passed away. 5 employees have tested positive for COVID-19. If you have been in close contact with a Sherwood Oaks resident or staff member, please self-quarantine, and participate in the outbreak testing event, performed by Mendocino Coast Clinics tomorrow, Sunday, July 19, 2020 from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. at 530 Maple Street in Fort Bragg. There will be 300 tests available. First come, first serve. If you have or develop flu-like symptoms, please contact your primary care physician.
  • Ukiah Natural Foods Co-Op has had 2 employees test positive for COVID-19. Further testing of Co-Op employees is being facilitated by Public Health. “We are following the guidance as recommended by the Public Health Officer, Dr. Doohan, and are shutting down while working on the case investigation and contact tracing by Public Health,” said Co-Op Manager, Lori Rosenberg. “Our impacted staff are quarantined, and we have hired a professional deep cleaning service to clean the entire store. We are taking staff temperatures, and ensuring enhanced efforts for social distancing and disinfecting all surfaces. Our concern at this time is for the health of staff, shoppers and the community.”
  • The Fort Bragg Center for Laser & Cosmetic Dentistry has had one employee test positive for COVID 19. “The employee has been isolating since July 9th and no other employees or patients have reported experiencing any symptoms,” as stated by Dr. Alan Limbird. Dr. Limbird is working closely with public health to ensure a safe reopening for employees and patients. Mendocino County Public Health is providing outbreak testing for any patients who may have been exposed between June 22nd and July 13th. Outbreak testing for this event will be performed by Mendocino Coast Clinics tomorrow, Sunday, July 19, 2020 from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. at 530 Maple Street in Fort Bragg. There will be 300 tests available. First come, first serve.
  • Ardzrooni Vineyard in Anderson Valley has had 4 employees test positive for COVID-19. Isolation and quarantine housing has been arranged for those affected by this outbreak. Outbreak testing will be offered early next week. Press Release with more information on this testing to follow soon.

Indication of uncontrolled community spread, which has already been seen in Sonoma and Marin counties, includes outbreaks in skilled nursing facilities and grocery stores. The COVID-19 surge has now hit Mendocino County, and will likely worsen until Labor Day, given state modeling data. “We urge you, follow the Health Officer orders, and remember to wear your mask,” said Health Officer Dr. Noemi Doohan. “They have been created to save lives.”

0.22%… keep it up. Herd immunity at 70%.

I haven’t read anything about it for a while, but the last numbers I remember for Sweden were under 10%. If you’re serious about achieving herd immunity, we’re going to need much larger church choirs, and offer a tax credit for anyone who agrees to host a “Covid party”. Something tells me this may not be the best approach to take.

Testing for a t cell response has shown a far wider response. “Our results indicate that public immunity to Covid-19 is probably significantly higher than antibody tests have suggested,” Professor Hans-Gustaf Ljunggren, from the Centre for Infectious Medicine at the Karolinska Institutet, and a co-senior author of the study, said.”

https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/health/coronavirus/122011921/coronavirus-was-sweden-right-study-suggests-significantly-higher-covid19-immunity

Right now the knowledge of how or even if covid-19 immunity is achieved is still being developed. But one of the puzzling things is that number of people who are infected yet do not get seriously ill from covid-19 is quite substantial. Researchers have started looking at both anti body and t cell levels to try to figure out why. So far they have found that asymptomatic people have a t cell response while even while having little detectable anti bodies.

“The article said it remained to be determined whether a robust T-cell response to Sars-CoV-2, without detectable antibodies, could protect against the disease.
But it also noted none of the people in the study who had recovered from Covid-19, including those who had mild cases or were asymptomatic, had caught the disease again.” Which is a hopeful sign that asymptomatic infection does provide some level of immunity.

What is really peculiar about the various press reactions to Sweden’s path on covid-19 is that political agendas, not science, seem to create it. Those who have committed to extreme anti Trump agendas have also interpreted the short-lived antibody response as further proof of incompetence in trying to keep the economy open but ignore the fact that many seem to be able to shake off covid-19 with minimal harm and t cells may be the reason why while press with a more pro Trump orientation seem to be eager to find support in this idea and tend to minimize the reporting on the deaths and disabilities covid-19 causes. Of course the reality is that both sides are correct in part. Covid-19 is not so dangerous to many people while being very dangerous to some. And you’d think that both sides would be eager to report evolving research increasing understanding of both. But noooo… It has become just another tool to bash each other by pretending the points of difference don’t exist and others are idiots for thinking differently. Two years from now the facts will be clearer but by then people will have moved on to new causes to use as weapons, continuing in making themselves feel superior by trying to make others feel inferior.

Guest is the favorite of my posters on the topic, thank you again Guest. One doctor whose site address I lost was suggesting that there is an increase in contagiousness of viruses and decrease of lethality as they get near the end of their natural cycle. Although not emphasized in the MSM narrative, obviously the death rate has come down since April… it would be good to know if tests are showing lower levels of infection. ….And yes, I wear my mask.

Awesome. Now let’s all go outside and reduce the potential for contagion.

600,000 dead and how much of earth population infected? 1%?

70% in Mendo would be terribly devastating, with immunity still in question.

“Some level of immunity” is all you have from any viral disease.

Scientists look for the best information available, some of which may support one hypothesis, some of which may support another hypothesis. Debaters look for the most convincing evidence available, all of which supports their point of view.

Everyone has “confirmation bias.” We ignore information that contradicts our current favorite world view. There is value in reducing that tendency.

Could it be, and is it accounted for, that once you catch a disease, and especially one on the course as we see now with SARS-Cov2, that you are extra alert and hyper defensive against such disease?

Perhaps, especially if you denied it at first?

All it takes is a few simple life adaptations to greatly reduce your risk, and your risk to others.

These adaptations are likely taken far more serious by those affected by them, or those not listening to Trump’s “hunches”, knowing he’s a fucking idiot.

They are the same adaptations that are being debated and contested by many here, and beyond.

And yes, there is absolutely a correlation with Trump on that.

A devisive President at best.

But what’s the worst?

When will he send unmarked agents to arrest proteste…..oh wait a minute…what’s that?

Unmarked agents arresting people in Portland? 10-4.

Well, what is the best approach? Keeping everyone in a quasi-lockdown while tanking the economy? I do not imagine that the current approach is the “best” approach.

Provide some links showing this. Everything I’ve been able to find shows that not to be true. It would be good to read more if it’s not true.

This is not unusual with viruses. Often uncommon (as with Covid), often more serious than a first infection. I had an experience with momonucleosis (30-50% fatality for second infections at the time) in my 20’s. Herd immunity is not dependent on absolute immunity, nor are some deaths or chronic conditions unheard of with second infections.

There is no herd immunity to this virus , unfortunately. It appears to behave like it’s relative, the common cold in our bodie’s immune system memory. The Antibodies developed appear to disappear several weeks to a few months after infection. People are now catching it for the second time, which is completely terrifying to me. It will also make a traditional vaccine difficult because you’d have to get one several times a year for boosters.

Please show links to show reinfection. If it’s like the common cold, then it would be more like immunity lasts some time but not for years and repeat infection would be less severe . Some people do seem to come down with something like a cold each year but most do not.

“As far as I know, there hasn’t been a documented case of reinfection,” she told Gizmodo. “People who have tested positive after recovering have not been associated with new cases, and attempts to culture infectious virus from their samples have all been negative, suggesting that the positive test was detecting residual viral RNA, not bona fide replicating virus.” and “As I’ve written before, immunity to germs isn’t just about antibodies: Our immune system also relies on cells, particularly certain types of T cells, that similarly recognize and go after familiar threats. And research is showing that the T cell response to covid-19 post-infection is robust.”

Good and bad would be mixed. Good would be that people would know better if they had been in contact with an infected person and get tested. Bad would be if the business had taken steps to effectively limit spread so no one other the the person who brought it in was ill but the business folded any way because people were now afraid to go there.

California teachers unions are making it clear that they have an agenda that has very little to do with the needs of children.

You can’t extrapolate what the teacher’s union for Los Angeles Unified is asking for with teachers across the state. Here in Willits, for example, we just had a school board meeting, and all of the comments by teachers and the public alike focused on how and when to safely reopen the schools. The only “social justice” issue addressed was how to work during during distance learning conditions with children whose families lack internet connectivity.

First with millions having been infected, there would be much more evidence in numbers of patients by now if was a significant problem. Again with tests having an innate false positive and/or false negative potential, it is not unlikely that a person was declared free of the virus when they were not. Then, in all diseases, there are a very, very few people who do not develop immunity due to genetic defects. Such occasional anecdotes are for sensationalization rather than reality.

For a better illustration, https://www.bbc.com/news/health-53447899, where a doctor tests oistive, then negative. Twice.

This is the most informative report I’ve seen so far, keeping privacy while giving locations so we know where cases are clustered.

I would still like to know out of 194 , have any recovered and if so why are they still listed as cases?
We need a recovered category, and a clear definition of cases.

Guest makes great points however we still need to consider the people that just can’t continue without income and the open, shut, open, shut back and forth costs of trying to manage their life & finances while keeping their businesses alive.

As for the politics, one day I read Blacks are most effected, next day the elderly, next day Latino’s …seems the only ones I don’t hear being the most at risk are Asians …that’s odd.

We are all at risk.

Oh my…immunity to a virus only comes one of 2 ways.
#1 Catch it and gain immunity.

#2 be vaccinated and gain immunity.

Tricky issue here COVID 19 seems to mutate in its replication, and RAPIDLY. So…that being said vaccine is not coming soon. Maybe never for this one.

Think of a VCR tape. Copy it. Then copy that copy, then copy, go on and on. Million copies of a copy. The tape is blank. This virus may have a transcription error with its replication so it may wind up wiping itself out.

Wash your hands. Keep tight social circles. Wear a nice clean mask if you are in public.. Be kind and we can do this together. A rouge stance of “fuck the man attitude, you cant control me MY RIGHTS” really just hurts us all in the end.
Stay safe everyone. ❤?❤?❤

Our immune systems have many antiviral mechanisms that limit infections from the thousands different types of virus all around us, all the time. The links below provide a window on things that I don’t half understand. But I learn a lot by stretching my mind into weird new areas.
