UPDATE 3:10 p.m.: Humboldt County Office of Emergency Services posted,

Projected Impacts for the Upcoming Winter Storm System

RIVER IMPACTS / FLOODING

The National Weather Service is currently projecting the Eel River at Fernbridge to exceed Flood Stage at about 22 feet by Thursday afternoon following significant rainfall expected tonight and into tomorrow. Flooding is expected to be similar to that as we’ve seen in recent years following significant rain events and is expected to have minor impacts. Highway 211 is not currently anticipated to be impacted and most roadways are anticipated to be passable. The following impacts are expected from this flooding:

The western half of the Eel Delta may be completely flooded, especially if at or above this level for an extended period of time. This includes areas northwest of Loleta, Cannibal Island Road. A Special Action Advisory is being issued to all owners of livestock in low-lying areas of the Eel Delta. These animals are at risk due to rising river levels, and appropriate action should be considered.

Sheriff’s OES staff and the National Weather Service are continuing to monitor this forecast and are preparing resources if unexpected additional flooding should occur. For updated weather conditions and river forecasts please call (707) 443-6484.

Other local rivers are not forecast to hit flood stage, but will continue to be monitored as the wet weather continues.
Southern Humboldt is projected to receive several inches of rain throughout the rest of this week and into this weekend. Some localized flooding and rock slides may be possible.

Please do not drive through flooded roads.

ROCK SLIDES

We have already observed several local roads and highways experience rock slides. Wet and cold weather throughout the weekend is likely to produce additional slides throughout the county. Please be sure to check road conditions prior to traveling this week/weekend.

We dodged a bullet this time. Had the pineapple express atmospheric river hitting central and southern CA made it this far up the coast we’d be seeing snow levels of 8000 feet instead 5500 which would melt alot more of the snow. We’re still going to get a dump, just not as warm. I doubt flooding will be very severe in this area.
