Umbrellas Outnumber Pink Hats at Eureka’s Women’s March Today

Before noon an intrepid crowd braved rainy weather and a recent controversy that was picked up by the national media to hear speakers at the foot of C Street in Eureka at today’s Women’s March.

The crowd listened as rain fell for a few short speeches and performances.

After the opening ceremony, the crowd marched off along the boardwalk led by a marching band.

For a moment, indicative of the split between the marchers and the original march organizers who canceled the event a month ago, the crowd momentarily split in two directions after leaders became confused as to the march route.

In spite of the confusion, the marchers regained momentum and flowed smoothly onward.

Though there were smaller crowds across the country amid bad weather and other controversies, the passion that initially began two years ago after the 2016 election mobilized people across the nation still burns.

Below is the live feed from the Women’s March on Washington: (Note: Some gorgeous music about 3 hours and 50 minutes into the feed below.)

Why yes he did. Interesting that he had such a variety of experience before becoming President.

Well the new populists set in the Obama mold are running now. The key thing they seem to have in common is having done little before getting elected to office and starting their Presidential before they do anything in that office. Experience has become a liability in that people on the internet without understanding will chorus condemnation in unison as soon as they have been told what to think while those without a public history to review are safe from attack.

You confuse being an experienced politician with being experienced period. I agree that being an inexperienced politician is a liability for elected office… it takes practice to make promises with a straight face with no intention of every keeping any of them, to make speeches that go on and on yet carefully avoid any meaning, to give lip service to ideals while selling influence with impunity, to be used to spending other peoples money without being personally responsible, to stand in the front row for photo ops when everything is good yet melt off scene when it goes bad, etc. Yes, it takes experience to learn those things that successful politicians are famous for. It takes practice to callously manipulate public opinion for a lifetime… if that is what you want to consider a good thing. It does have its uses.

The crowd was exactly two blocks long when it marched up third Street. (500?)
The crowd was pretty quiet as we walked. But smiling and chatting. Introspective would be a good description. The two signs that hit me strongest were
“Truth is not a liberal plot.”
And the other was symbolic….a giant paper mache hinge that lost it’s pin and was flopped askew.

The first speech was by a lady who talked about what it’s like to be black in Humboldt and that she sees things others don’t.
It reminded me of living in eureka and having the lived experience that epd were chill enough until the day I helped a client move into a “poor” Neighborhood. An epd Officer came up to us as we were unloading stuff and said he’d gotten a complaint about people throwing mattresses out of an upper story window. I told him we hadn’t seen anything. He told me again. The third time he said it I realized he was looking at the client’s mattress. I laughed and said she was moving in not out. I took him over and showed him the county car sticker on the truck I was driving and we ended it there. But I realize quickly that zip code matters when it comes to police and the system in general. My impression was he was perfectly willing to assume in ways he wouldn’t in my neighborhood.

And then Amy from khum talked about the warning signs of domestic violence. And gave good information about how to appropriately respond and support people in that situation.

Those were both good topics, but
What no one talked about is the January 20th, Inauguration Day, ongoing and international protest of a self confessed sexual assaulting President who has committed crimes to be in office and even more while in office. That’s what I was there to talk about.

I don’t much care who is leading it, I’m in the back, but I know I want to hear some focus and ideas for engaged citizenship on these issues.

It is my honest prediction that worldwide we have staggering problems coming our way. I feel like I can’t overemphasize how important it is for people to work together and not fall into psychological traps set by the Divide and Conquer Crew.

The Guardian news reports It’s currently between 45C- 50C (113-122F!!) in southern Australia. These temps are 8-16C (46-59F!!!) above normal in a coastal town called Port Augusta. The math suggests normal temps are like shelter Cove.
The fish had a mass die off from heat exhaustion. We can imagine the crops are not doing well.
Becuase Australia had the roaring wildfires a few years before they started here, I suspect the horrifying heat waves will be here soon as well.

We gotta make moves like our lives are in danger maybe.

Hey Kelly, did it ever occur to you to be the one to “give some focus and ideas for engaged citizens on these issues“…

All of the women there spoke about issues that matter to them. Any woman that wanted to speak, about anything, was able to do so if that’s what they wanted to do.
Why didn’t you?
Stop complaining and whining about what you didn’t hear or see , make whatever you wanted to hear and see happen.
Stop waiting for somebody else to do it, and then complain because nobody did anything or said anything about something that you care about .
STOP focusing and commenting on the ONE thing you didn’t like , while IGNORING and not recognizing the 99 other things that you really liked.

That totally depends on what is claimed by a victim as to what happened. First, if nothing happened, then there is no crime. Second, there is a lot on huggy-kissy-ness that goes on in the entertainment industry, at least it’s what seen in interview type shows when hosts greet their guests. So what you assume is egregiously aggressive may just be acceptable, or at least made not much, of in that situation. His remark is smarmy but then that industry specializes in smarmy. If it were as unacceptable or unusual as you choose to imagine, someone would have used it for publicity before he ever ran for office.

Putting too much interpretation on the remark has more to do with looking to justify personal feelings than sincere desire to protect women.

Never before in the history of humanity has the Arctic Ocean been free of ice, but it’s pretty much there now.
As a result, Methane is boiling out of the Continental shelf underneath and we are in the beginning of a 50gigaton release.

Here’s two minutes of footage of researchers filming and capturing the bubbles.

And here’s an 11minute piece explaining what the researchers are looking at and why

Extreme climate events happened occasionally throughout time. They are happening with increased frequency and intensity now. Because of our release of previously sequestered carbon back into the atmosphere by using carbon fuels for a century.

“…history of humanity…” necessarily produces a myopic view of our world.

For instance, it is assumed that the Antarctic continent has been covered in ice for the past 35 million years, while prior to that is what ice free for 100 million years. Contrast those millions against our “history of humanity” beginning our adventures into Antarctica just 100 years ago.

In a short attention span culture this is a classic way to guide how people think about issues. It is very effective advertising :

“A false dichotomy or false dilemma occurs when an argument presents two options and ignores, either purposefully or out of ignorance, other alternatives.

In general, a false dichotomy gives the impression that the two oppositie options are mutually exclusive (that is, only one of them may be the case, never both) and that at least one of them is true, that is, they represent all of the possible options”

Probably the most extensive study in human psychology is media advertising. Advertisers know how to pull the strings of the human psyche. I call it the “Pepsi/Coke Challenge”. Neither company really cares if they are #1 or #2, they only care that they are the only competition for #1 and #2.

You do know that all women have the same equality of opportunity as men? Identity politics focuses on equality of outcome. It’s a fool’s errand to try to force an equal outcome. We are all individuals with our own goals and expectations. Often those goals diverge with biological gender variations.

To me it is apparent women are smarter than men BECAUSE there are less of them in elected positions. What a thankless, horrible job of duplicity.

Brian-
As you call them “white power alt-reich marches” are an inevitable response to the power dynamic. There is a vocal group of people saying white men are a scourge and their power structure needs reworking or outright destruction. The natural response is for a push back on this idea. Unfortunately the ideology of those pushing back are framed by the false dichotomy within the narrative of the so called probem: white men are a problem. So one group takes an absolute stance of “all white men are bad”… the reciprocity to that idea is “all white men are good”. In both cases the illustrations to that dichotomy inflame one side versus the other.

Unfortunately the dichotomy is manipulated by those in power for those in power.

I’m supporting women marching for empowerment.

I’m confused by Guests assertion that all marches are for empowerment.

The fact is white men have most power.

(Don’t confuse that, Ullr, with statements in your comment about dichotomies and absolute extremes)

So, if white man has the most power. How do you empower them more?

With that, how is it not a white power march.

With that, why don’t you waste keyboard time on true dichotomies such as:

Was there a supertanker fighting fires?

Is the earth round?

Were lasers used to start fires?

Were 20,000 killed in Paradise?

Does the media tint Trump orange?

Right. See, I’m just here attacking bullshit, and you guys can’t seem to stand it.

Are either of you guys involved in a debate with the commentors who spews these Lies? No.

We pick our battles. Yours are apparently with me.

So, I’m making judgements about your timing and choice of battles.

Brian, With regards to the latter part of your comment, I argue with people that have a defensible stated position. Otherwise, it’s like arguing with an ardent believer of any religion. They have their faith/belief and there is no point in trying to shake them from that.

As for the former part of you statement: although white men represent the wealthiest group of people in America they are also the some of the poorest by numbers. There are more poor, disaffected white people in the USA than any other group by number.

If people think marching helps their cause then, by all means march away. I fully support their right to do so. As a critical consumer of information, I also believe that to be affective those that march should have a cogent position. I don’t see that.

Ok, Ullr

Thanks for making me understand a little bit more about why you don’t always step in.

As far as marching.

I hear you. I dont generally think of marches as agents-of-change either. Remember the crowds in 03 saying don’t invade Iraq?

For a glimmer after the bank bailouts there was lots of energy, which gave us “occupy” which gave us nothing, for their utter resistance to leadership and goals.

Ive marched many times too. I was with Gold Star families in 06 at the white house. I saw a policeguard throw 100,000 signatures into a trashcan, effortlessly.

So I hear you.

But now, I come to think of as something else.

Most people feel good after the experience, and it can provide a means to meet some folks, maybe connect more.

It’s a fundamental part of our history that in some manner should be practiced. The times create different needs.

There were probably many individual goals that were met during the march here. They may not have been goals that you or I fully recognize or understand, or agree with.

I bet if you were there and talked to a couple people about it, everyone would have a chance to learn more.

This one I will answer. Apparently you want to insult in an effort to control every discussion. The motivation for this can’t be good. First you insult, trivialize or bully anyone not in agreement with you. Then any further response is used as an opportunity to insult for control again. Now you expand that into saying that people are picking on you when they stoop to the same level. It is not always about you.

Your sense of debate is on the level of constantly repeating “Says you” with a dose of acid. So yes, your posts are as irritating to your victims as a mosquito buzzing around, looking for blood. The only one who gets anything good from this process is the mosquito. The victims just get diseases.

I came on this post to support women marching.

I chose a couple obviously mysoginistic white male comments to pick on, with the point and fact that there’s only one group that can’t be more empowered: White males.

And you think I’m the problem. Again, how would you have a white male empowerment march, without going “full regalia”?

You jumped in a couple days ago on Shutdown threads and debated me, tirelessly. And you still won’t admit what Trump already said, he ” owns it”.

Yes. I think you’re ridiculous for the timing.

When I think someone is ridiculous, I treat the situation as such.

In the event I’m wrong in my assessment of you, I’m going to try to be “nice”.

Resist cruelty? Sorry you’re confused.

Cruelty is not owned by any one political party. But it is exemplified by things like separating children from their parents, calling poor countries “shitholes,” getting joy from dragging someone by their genitals, demanding billions for a wall to prevent people from obtaining refuge, and stopping the paychecks of hundreds of thousands of people in an attempt to extort your billions.

We’re all capable of cruelty — each and every one of us. When one man’s cruelty damages millions or billions of lives, we need to resist it.

Simple, huh?

Kudos to all the people who showed up on a wet, wet weather day to get the message out that things are not right in this country. Hopefully, yesterday was another continuation of Country BY the People. Many of us will not live long enough to see the change because social change takes generations. As was written, “teach your children well”. They truly are our future and with the likes of Trump and the ultra rich and global change their job will be mountainous. But as parents if we don’t teach our children a moral compass this country will be just like the Roman Empire………..gone, gone, gone!!

These so-called protestors are vicious. They want the end of western civilization (everything they adore but pretend to hate for Marxist political reasons).

This is from Breitbart:

“Protesters among the Women’s March in Washington, DC, Saturday called for free abortions for all, President Trump’s children to be caged, and for Trump to “drop dead.” ”

Hateful, evil, vile people. Savages. The savages lose every time. It is a historical fact. They are now hanging on like feral cats with fang and claw to 60’s/70’s Clintonian liberalism (sex, drugs rock’n’roll, more sex, more drugs, “legalized” drugs, and baby killing of course). History is against them.

Here is a link to the viciousness of the left at the march this weekend. The March for Life on Friday was peaceful, yet a group of high school kids were harrassed and attacked. One of them has been doxed and their photos were published by Marxists. They call for the end of baby killing and now are in fear of their lives.

God says to the man full of jealousy, in his best Dirty Harry impression voice, … “Go ahead punk, make my day’.
God makes it perfectly clear how he feels about those who hurt the innocent whom he names while still in the womb.

Reading the Ten Commandments, we also see how much he warns against jealousy, false witnessing, lust, murder, and all the things that the fallen angels promote as ‘natural & good’.

Regarding men, who wrote any of those god-damned books, here is just a light history of rape:

In Medieval Europe, a woman’s parents could forcibly marry her to a stranger without her consent, and, once she was married, she could no longer refuse to consent to sex: the medieval concept of rape did not allow for the possibility of being raped by one’s husband.

Medieval theologian Thomas Aquinas argued that rape, though sinful, was much less sinful than masturbation or coitus interruptus, because it fulfilled the procreative function of sex, while the other acts violated the purpose of sex.[3][4][5][notes 1]

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_rape

I can imagine why abortion would be forbidden. Men wanted control of their seeds.

The power structure was left in place almost 2000 years. I guess you want it to be back in place?

I thought you hated the Vatican?

Abortion is quite contrary to your very eloquent comment below, “Go Women”! I really liked that comment.

The context is the Book of Numbers, a book of extended Mosaic law passed from God to Moses to you. The passage CLEARLY instructs men who suspect thier wife became pregnant through adultery to have the local priest feed her a pile of herbs to induce a miscarriage. How in the hell do you call that anything other than an abortion?

Living your life by a book is one thing. Living your life by a book YOU’VE CLEARLY NEVER READ and expecting other people to follow your lead is delusional.

No it doesn’t. It simply doesn’t say that. It doesn’t mention pregnant or abortion. The drink (dust from the Temple floor mixed in holy water) provided has nothing in it to cause an abortion if she was pregnant . It is a techique for the priest to use, that when a man is jealous, thinking his wife is sleeping with someone else, pregnant or not is not mentioned, that proves either she did or did not by making her protest of innocence an oath before God. If she didn’t, nothing happens and her husband is proven wrong. If she did then her punishment, for lying to God when she drinks and swears to her innocence, is she gets a venereal disease and becomes infertile which was considered a terrible fate by the writers of the Bible. From what I read, the literal translated word for what she gets is “rot of the thighs.” It is an exercise in magic, nothing more. Making more of it is egregious.

Of course I don’t have the expertise to judge the translation but neither do you. The difference is that I am not making up anything more than it says while you are. Which is something you have loudly condemned in others.

I’m not making anything up, read my citations. I’m also using a modern translation, not King James, its written in midieval English.

Again, if a woman lies with another man, and gets pregnant, and gets “rot of the thighs,” whatever fetus she had growing inside of her is dead.

If the “rot of the thighs” was induced by a morning-after pill, you’d probably call than an abortion, right?

If a woman lies with a man, and gets pregnant, and her “thigh” rots and spills on the ground… That’s a miscarriage! If a priest (or God or Genie or pimp) induced that miscarriage while she was pregnant, that is an abortion. I do not understand the mental gymnastics you are trying to convey here.

I am so delighted that so many men, women, children of all races and genders showed up to march. I am so angry that the the first set of organizers canceled the March then when other women picked up the event and rushed to make it happen, the first group promoted boycotting the March, hurling insults at those who planned on marching. That led to a lot of confusion and made some people think that the March had been canceled. Shame on you first group. Your vile attacks on good people of our community was disgusting. You claim you wanted diversity, but what you accomplished was division and animosity. You used one native woman’s statement as reasoning for your attacks. Do you not realize how many native voices there are in our community and the surrounding areas? Do you not know that many of the Hoopa people were herded there from the coast, for example? Do you know how many of us are activists who were involved with the McKinley statue removal, the removal of the Trinidad lighthouse, the Justice for Josiah movement?
Now the first group is focusing on organizing a march on International Women’s Day. They want to tell us that they postponed the Women’s March. The two events are separate, so no you didn’t postpone the WM, you canceled it.
If you want to see for yourself what these angry, egotistical people spewed, look at their FB page… Women’s March Eureka Ca.
Women’s Marches happened globally yesterday, yet in our little neck of the woods we had such divisiveness. We can do better!

So you would find the abortion of a baby at say 23 weeks acceptable? Every interaction between three humans, even if one is not yet viable outside of the other is complex. That some people would find abortion to be killing another human is not unreasonable. Just as others would find being unwillingly forced to carry a child to term is slavery. Both things are true and a very hard thing to regulate by those not directly involved.

Less than .01 percent of abortions are performed during the third trimester, and those are performed only when the woman’s life is at risk. You are looking for hypotheticals to be upset about.

Allow me to repeat, the bible is totally okay with killing kids. Killing your ownkids if they are disobedient, killing other people’s kids, aborting fetuses conceived out of wedlock. The idea that the bible outlaws abortion in a relatively new invention, created for political reasons.

A baby deer, one of natures dumbest creatures, is more sentient and self-aware than a fetus. A during that stage of life, a human is incapable of thought and, to be blunt, a parasite on its mother. This may seem like a matter of semantics, but its literally true of us and it’s a trait we share with all placental mammals.

You still haven’t addressed Numbers 5:11-31. In what way is this not a vivid subscription of a God-endorsed abortion? A man suspects his wife is unfaithful, a priest administers herbs to induce a miscarriage, followed by a graphic description of a miscaraige.

AN INDUCED MISCARAIGE IS THE DEFINITION OF AN ABORTION.

i have already responded to that verse you bring up and i think (not sure) that they are talking about birth control. drinking something to drop the egg and making it not viable is not abortion

“Drop the egg”

You mean it would cause the woman to menstruate? If an egg is fertilised, that’s a miscarriage. If the miscarriage is induced, that’s an abortion.

You know as much about female anatomy as you know about the bible.

~Guest and Ullr Rover, you geniuses are needed in other areas. As a species destroying the planet we live on, talking about the female anonymity, is, well, rather pointless – imHumboldtopinion.

What are you gonna do when they come for your freedoms? and your family and you? What are you going to do about it?

1. Attempt to reason w/psycho-paths?
2. Fall to your knees and beg for mercy?
3. Fight back physically?

Ultimately, these are your only choices. Think carefully on your answer.

Don’t worry, some extremely stable genius told me 80-100 Democratic members of congress are going to be tried in military court for treason. How is that going, BTW?

Collectively everyone here just said, “are you serious?”

I’m surprised you didn’t hear it.

It’s nice that you now speak for everyone. Delusions of grandeur?

Does anyone else hear a buzzing sound?

PS, The SSS website is down, other than their homepage due to…..wait for it….
“Proud to own it”…… the shutdown!!!!!!

I was really looking forward to pulling some quotes and info for comparison…but….:

Selective Service Shutdown Plan

Due to a lapse in appropriations, Selective Service System (SSS) operations are currently shut down. Please note that any information on this website may not be up to date, any transactions submitted via this website might not be processed until after appropriations are enacted, and the agency will not be able to respond to inquiries until appropriations are enacted

Hi Guest,

How are you today?

Did you want to discuss the differences of the SSS system and abortion rights?

I do. But I’m on a job eating lunch… i won’t have much of a response.
Selective Service, seat belt/ helmet laws, jury duty, drug laws are all laws in which the state claims they have a ” compelling interest” in legislating individual behavior. Based on that legal precedent it’s hard to imagine that the state doesn’t have the interest in, potentially, 600,000 births per annum.
