This is a press release from the City of Eureka:
The City of Eureka invites community members to participate in a workshop on Tuesday, July 14 to kick off the Housing Element Update, and help shape the City’s housing policies and priorities through 2035. This interactive workshop is an opportunity to learn about the Housing Element process, discuss local housing challenges and trade-offs, and share ideas about Eureka’s housing future. Date: Tuesday, July 14, 2026 Time: Arrive anytime between 5:30 and 7:30 Location: Wharfinger Building, 1 Marina Way, Eureka, CA 95501 This event is kid-friendly with an activity zone for all ages. Free refreshments, food, door prizes, and raffle!
More Ways to Participate Community members can also participate online by visiting the City’s Housing Element engagement page at https://talk.eurekaca.gov/housing-element-update. The site includes project information, a community survey, quick poll, idea board, and interactive map where residents can share feedback and ideas. The survey is available now and takes about 5–10 minutes to complete.
What is the Housing Element? The Housing Element is a state-required plan for addressing the City’s housing needs through 2035. It addresses housing affordability, homelessness, fair housing, preservation of existing homes, and housing opportunities for current and future residents of all income levels. It also identifies where Eureka can accommodate 1,740 new homes by 2035 to meet regional housing needs.
Why engage now? Community input received now will help shape the policies, programs, and actions that will be included in the final plan. While this stage of the process can feel more abstract than a specific development proposal, it is when the community has the greatest opportunity to influence future housing decisions.

The simple economics of it is you have to have industry with good paying jobs. Building homes is temporary work for builders. Minimum wage at $20/ hour just drives up the cost of everything. See it happening right now. Now big business is going to automation. Even to milk cows. You want 1740 new units? For who. Welfare recipients? Keep printing money and raising TAXes. You are on that road right now.
Just sounds like a lot of talking without any action!
IMHO:
>”Eureka can accommodate 1,740 new homes by 2035 to meet regional housing needs.”
New ‘homes’ ? A home (officially) accommodates 2.54 people.
So they expect 4,500 people to come here ? What for ??
Hint: Eureka may have a population of 15,000 people by 2025.
Graph is Eureka’s population… which is currently in ‘free-fall’.
Go figure.
