Original Organizers Who Cancelled Eureka Women’s March Because Committee Was ‘Overwhelmingly White’ Urge Boycott of January 19 Women’s March

An Open Letter to the community from the organizers who cancelled the Women’s March:

This group has been honored to organize the “Eureka Women’s March” in Humboldt in order to facilitate women’s empowerment and to send the message that our County will resist President Trump’s sexist and racist practices and policies. As we begin 2019, we know that the political climate in the country, and in our county, continues to demand that action be taken, that a stand be made.

But our actions must be meaningful and inclusive for real change to be possible. We reflected that our group’s leadership was comprised of almost entirely women who identified as white.

We did not want to lead a “White Women’s March” that ignored the issues directly impacting underrepresented women, including those who do not benefit from the system of white supremacy. Nor did we want to lead a march that only reacts to the president’s actions, as the problems goes far beyond him. Pink hats resembling women’s reproductive organs are problematic, as not all people who identify as a woman have vaginas, not all vaginas are pink, and they are horrific reminders to many Indigenous women of when colonists would kill Indigenous peoples and cut off their genitals to wear on their hats and belts as trophies.

For these reasons, we decided to postpone the March, and we choose to boycott the January 19th march, which appears as if it will resemble previous marches. In solidarity with local Indigenous leaders, the LGBTQ+ community and communities of color, we could not in good conscience plan another march which does not include them in a meaningful way. No march is better than another one which does not derive from the leadership, and perspective, of those women who are most oppressed by the current system.

Instead, we plan to organize a women’s event in Eureka on March 9, International Women’s Day, which will place Indigenous women, LGBTQ+ women, and women of color front and center in the planning and on the day of the event.

Some have argued that our new vision for a women’s mobilization constitutes “social justice issues” not “women’s issues.” But, safety for the LGBTQ* community, Justice for Josiah Lawson, protection for immigrant peoples, and justice for missing and murdered Indigenous women–these are all real problems that dramatically affect women’s lives in this community.

Because these issues do not directly affect white women nearly as often, they are often brushed aside as “non-women’s issues.” These issues reflect the reality of marginalized women in our community. In 2019, let us not continue to make the same historical mistakes made by the women’s movement in this country. We must stop the marginalization and exclusion within the movement.

We will no longer support events which do not prioritize the experiences of marginalized women.

An Open Letter to Community Members
Please join us in taking this stand. Besides joining the March 9 event (details to be announced), please support local actions, including:
● Supporting Charmaine Lawson and Justice for Josiah at the next vigil this Tuesday, January 15th at 5:30 p.m.outside of the Eureka Courthouse. We also encourage people to put pressure on the District Attorney Maggie Fleming who has had the case for over 2 months now. Please like, share and follow the Justice for David Josiah Lawson FB page : https://www.facebook.com/Justice-For-David-Josiah-Lawson-138429150033811/
● Attending the Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration on Monday, January 21, in Eureka, and be ready to listen
● Attending the NAACP’s Black History Month activities in February.
*Disclaimer: We are aware that there are some people in our community who do not agree with the use of racialized language terms such as people of color. We understand that race is a social construct and we are hopeful that the community could engage in discussions about possible alternative wording to use and ways in which we could further decolonize our language and move the community forward. We would greatly appreciate help with this going forward.

Oh. My. God.

It’s off because it’s too white. It’s back on because having a vagina transcends race. No, off again, protest the protest because it’s still too white and color trumps gender.

These knuckleheads are tripping over themselves to be the most PC; meanwhile they are the laughingstock of – well… pretty much the nation – since this has been making the national media rounds.

Only part of the group is this stoooopid. The others knew it’s just time to get busy.
To the stooopid group, the tool you are looking for is called an invitation. If you want more segments of the community involved, ask them. If they give a shit they’ll show up. Or they’ll do their own and invite you to walk with them. But whatever their choice, you need to keep moving. There’s no time for waiting.

The folks that wrote this open letter are quite offensive!

They say they will boycott and not participate because non-whites and non-straights are not placed front-and-center in the march, which, apparently, they planned.

Instead, they want everyone to wait until their revised march takes place on March 9th. In the meantime, they suggest supporting 3 other local actions, all of which are solely black related issues.

Good job on flipping the bias to the complete opposite end of the spectrum.

#wetoo movement didn’t prevent Whiney-boy Brett Kavanaugh from crying his way to a seat on the Supreme Court, so exactly how is this going to accomplish anything?

Let me spell it out for you…pink hats with cat ears = pink pussy hats. ‘Pussy’ is a euphemism for vagina. The criticism: not all women have vaginas. To assert otherwise erases transfolk. Not all vaginas are pink. To assert otherwise erases women of color.

All vaginas are pink. The vagina is an internal organ and internally every human is pink. You are clearly confusing “vagina” with “vulva”, which is the correct name for women’s external genitalia. Beyond that, though, the pink was never meant to represent the color of anyone’s body parts, but the pinkification (i.e., submissive constraints) forced upon all women and girls by the Princess Industrial Complex.

And the pink pussy hats were also created as a response to the disgusting rotting pumpkin saying he could grab her “by the pussy.” At the local march last year there were way less pussy hats than the year before, probably because of some people’s issues around the color, or for whatever reason.

This is bullshit. The original organizers could have organized a more diverse women’s march if they weren’t so busy with all the in-fighting and hen-pecking of each other. The Eureka/Humboldt NAACP deserves to be censured for it’s divisive tactics and making a huge issue out of something that could easily be fixed – helping to ensure this year’s march is more diverse. I’m not buying their argument – it’s all about attention grabbing and grandstanding.

“We reflected that our group’s leadership was comprised of almost entirely women who identified as white.”

Who decided who was to be in a leadership role? And if you wanted diversity why didn’t work hard enough to get PoC and others into your committee? I know people who were part of the organization of the first march two years ago, so I know quite a bit about how it works. Anyone who volunteers to help is in. Years one and two were constructed in just a few weeks, which is probably why there were complaints of not enough diversity in the speakers and crowd. I attended both marches and saw the second one was livelier and the energy greater for the most part because of the Latina group who drummed and chanted.

I think the call for a boycott is so disgusting it will create even more participation in Saturday’s march, as people realize that the divisiveness is something to be conquered not to be promoted.

Just look at the comments here. Who is speaking out in favor of this boycott? One or two people out of dozens.

I never really thought the pink of the hat was supposed to symbolize the actual color of a white woman’s genitalia. My ancestry is European. I’m a white woman and mine’s not pink, just saying. I always thought the pink pussy hat was about taking this insipid girly color and turning it into a thing of power.

The original organizers couldn’t find enough people of diverse origins to be on the committee so they canceled the March. How about taking some responsibility? Some of the early remarks on the Facebook group said that they just didn’t start the planning early enough. The people who took on creating the March without them should be applauded for taking on this task. The idea of boycotting it is apalling. How about trying to work towards settling our differences and supporting one another’s decisions? And who are they to question my activism? They deride people who march, saying that they should be more involved with the local politics like the justice for Josiah movement. What makes them think I don’t? How can they characterize all these people with these sweeping generalizations? I will be marching with my brothers and sisters on Saturday. Everyone is welcome to March. we will join the hundreds if not thousands of other women’s Marches that are going on around the world, from Eureka to Australia, from DC to Zimbabwe and beyond.

I see lots of color there.

I think there’s nothing wrong with older organizers cancelling in order to try to make themselves feel better.

But I think calling to boycott the newly-reorganized March is beyond the reasonable….to be nice about it.

They could have just gone to the march, invited the underrepresented to go to their meetings – and help them out for future marches…

I feel sorry for the women of Humboldt County. You are being sold out for political correctness. This group is so confused about what it is that they feel the Women’s March should represent. They claimed they have been honored to put on the Women’s March, but didn’t they forfiet the Women’s March when they decided to have a march on a different date instead of the date for the” Women’s March”? Aren’t these “organizers” missing the point of “Justice, Equality, Human Rights, and coming together”? To now claim that “white women” don’t experience the same treatment because they are not of “color” seems a bit racist. You elected to take it upon yourself to cancel the march because you failed to plan ahead and failed to contact these groups you are now concerned about. Coming together should mean that you should have your march and let those that want to march on the Women’s March date march. To say “it is our way or no way” sounds more like you are what you are protesting against. Let this group march and quit trying to divide women.

You don’t have to destroy everything to make changes, you just have to be willing to be open minded and allow good deeds to come from all angles. Any positive step is a good step, and you have the right to add to them. Don’t turn good intentions into bad ones just to make a point. Let all women stand up without fear of being judged, especially by women. I believe every moment a person stands up for the rights of another, is a positive moment for all. So who determines who is an organizer? Do you vote people onto a committee? Do people just appoint themselves? I want to know how it works. If noone of marginalized groups steps forward to participate then thats on their lack of interest and people shouldnt whine if thats the issue. Now if there is some other process that prevents their participation even if they try then i would be upset. But with no more info other than “its too white” “white women often dont suffer these issues” is just offensive with no info to back your decision other than too much white. White women are women. And white women suffer just as many hardships as black, mexican or lgbtq women. To state otherwise seems ignorant and spiteful. White women are raped, kidnapped, trafficked, abused, homeless, mentally ill, in need of healthcare and every other problem women of color face. Are you women together or women of different categories? Or is it just a political rift? Too many open trump supporters for the likes of opposers to trump? ?????

I’m a butch dyke who has sex with women and transmen and live my life to illustrate that gender is a spectrum and not A or B.

Within my community of queers and gender-benders, I challenge the notion that choosing not to alter my body with surgery or hormones means that I am not trans. Sometimes I get angry at other queers when they insist that I am not trans. Sometimes they get angry at me for identifying as trans. The queer community, and society at large, is all the better for those exchanges.

Is that easier to understand?

So you are a woman who has sex with other women, and also with men pretending to be women; and you self-assign your gender on a sliding scale depending on circumstances?

If you feel that transfolk are pretending, you can fuck off. On the off chance you might learn something, “transmen” would be transitioning in the other direction.

As for gender being a spectrum, my meaning is that anyone’s gender identity will fall out on a spectrum of shades of grey. Not just black or white. I myself am masculine-of-center. More ‘masculine’ traits/behaviors/presentation than ‘feminine’, but I exhibit a combination of both.

Just attend both marches if you feel they both represent you. Don’t if you feel they don’t. And let everyone make up their own mind about it.
If one stresses the resistance to the current administration and one is strictly social justice, both are worthy causes.
Letting people know why you make the choices you do… important.
Pushing them to make the same choices.. not so much.
Healthy discussion of the reasons and support for the causes does not discount either march so far as I have yet seen/read/heard.

Women might gain some power from democracy, having a sizable voting block- if they don’t devolve into squabling factions. So go ahead and screw it up for everyone by insisting on saddling it with everyone’s different agenda. Thereby gaining nothing for everyone except those whose goal is excluding women from power.

Anger may be valid or total invalid. After all a toddler can be angry because its parents won’t let it run into traffic. But valid or not, it is a pitiful weapon if used by the inept.

“For the good of the many” only works for the many. That is one of the primary reasons that A) marginalized people stay marginalized and B) marginalized people are angry amongst social justice movements that purport to fight their oppression.

Marginalized people might gain some power from democracy if they had more allies in the majority who actually listened and acted in alliance instead of telling them to calm down and be nicer.

In the context of a protest march, as that is the context we are speaking about, anger is 100% valid. And anger can be hugely useful and productive when it comes to motivating people to get up and make change happen. Telling people who are righteously angry that they can come to the march, but only if they smile more and calm down…which was basically the communicated position of the organizers of the first Women’s March in Eureka a couple of years ago…was a big mistake on their part. Thankfully, it appears to have been a mistake that some of them seem to have learned from.

Can’t go a day without someone disparaging white people.
Pre life karma, the karma from your previous lives and time between lives determines your station in this one.
It’s our challenge to overcome.
All things we experience here are part of our personal metaphysical healing process.
Should we just exchange one type of racism for another? Or put an end to all racism?

We don’t take women seriously because because more white women voted for the “Pussy Grabber”than voted for the first woman with a real chance to be president. What is that about?

I would think that would be a reason to take women seriously. By ignoring the, “she’s a woman so you as a woman must vote for her”, and the, “he’s unqualified to be President because of something he said in private that’s no worse than the crude shit women say to each other when talking about men in private” rhetoric, they proved that they are capable of rational thought.

Women voted for Trump because they are smart, think for themselves, are independent, and very intelligent. I know many women who voted for Trump, and are very glad they did. They see Hillary as the enemy of free thought. They are not told who to vote for or who to be. Hillary would have finished destroying this country. One reason women love Trump and voted for him is his business building economy. Women across the US now have thriving companies they said are benefiting from Trumps policies. Over 1300 business’s a week have been started by women. Being a woman does not mean you have to vote for one. Especially one who hates the freedom the US Constitution give each one of us, independent of each other. Group think is the enemy, they are sheep. Maybe you should talk to a few independent business owning women who voted for Trump. Better yet, maybe you should listen to them. If you can’t find any, I will be more than happy to send a few your way.

all i get from this is. we dont know what we want but we want it. we want respect but we dont respect ourselves. we dont have to make sense or use logic because we wear our gender on our heads but damm it take us seriously.
if one were to take these stories they would have to wonder, should anyone associated with this movement ever be in charge of anything ? can you imagine one of these people attempting to run a country? or be a leader of any company for that matter?
It was once said by someone very wise” if you see something you wish to change, be the change” I have found this not only to be very useful but that it also brings peace and understanding to my life. I would like to offer these wise words for all. Stop complaining. start being the change you wish to see. remember it wont be easy but the harder it is the sweeter it will be. nothing easy is valued. Respect is not something that can be taken, and rarely given unless earned .

Who are the organizers who signed off on this? Their names aren’t listed in this statement or any previous statements. Did they vote? Was the vote unanimous? How many organizers are there? 3? 30?

I would like to know more about the people who are issuing these statements, and how unified they are as a group, and about their decision-making process. The unsigned statements by a group of unknowns, shutting down a huge event, raises red flags.

Agreed. I guess one could dig deeper and find out who they are, but it seems like they should sign the statement instead of just being the “I’m taking my ball and going home alliance”

Yeah. When we fight to extend rights to the most oppressed, we should be extending and expanding the rights for all peoples and educating them, not creating division. Two wrongs don’t make a right as they say. I see validity in many of their points, especially after learning a bit about the early history of the march from Kate and others. The call for a boycott, not so much. It crosses a major line. I sincerely hope all these actions make a difference and are wildly successful. It would be better to move in solidarity. And if your going to call your self an activist and advocate, and hold the bar high and be uncompromising, grow a pair and sign your fucking name like an adult (in this context of course “pair” refers to any two things that enhance your chosen gender identity and personal power).

One of the organizers and the one who is always quoted because she pushes herself in front is Kelsey Reedy, aka Kelsey Lynne. Another is Kathleen Ann, don’t know last name but she’s the one talking if Kelsey isn’t. Go to the FB page for the march and read their all too often un-truths.

~news on the immigration thingie anybody?

This is too funny, Laura Loomer sets up illegal alien sanctuary camp on Nancy Pelosi’s private property, Nancy calls cops… Armed cops!

Laura Loomer and a group of illegal aliens showed up to Nancy Pelosi’s Napa Valley, CA lawn and set up a sanctuary camp on Monday. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) wants open borders so certainly she will welcome the new squatters!

This is hilarious.

Loomer and gang set up a canopy on Pelosi’s lawn with the word “Immorality” emblazoned in red letters.

Pelosi regularly says walls are ‘immoral’ when arguing against President Trump’s proposals for stronger border security which includes a wall.

The government shutdown has entered week three, the longest in US history because Schumer and Pelosi refuse to compromise on border wall funding.

Loomer attached photos of Americans who have been killed by illegal aliens, including Kate Steinle, to the canopy.

Loomer and her illegal alien friends were chanting “Everyone is welcome here!”

Live Stream video via Unite America First:

Update: Loomer actually brought illegal immigrants from Guatemala and Mexico to Pelosi’s house, they are not actors.

Update: Police officers showed up but they haven’t forced Loomer and her caravan off of Pelosi’s property…yet.

2nd Update: At 1 PM PST, the police ordered Laura Loomer and her illegal alien caravan to leave Nancy Pelosi’s Napa Valley property.

Loomer and her caravan are now en route to newly-elected California Governor Gavin Newsom’s home.

She definitely has conviction, not a fan of Twitter, Pelosi or Newsom so this shit is kinda funny. Didn’t see it in the MSM, but than again you have dig to discover the yellow vests want to organize a run on the banks, indigenous peoples in canada are going toe to toe with armed royal Canadian police officers protesting pipelines, and that 200 million workers went on strike in india.

just imagine if everyone stopped trying to id themselves or others, if everyone just called each other person or persons ? if everyone keeps attempting to id themselvesin an attempt to provide a reason for their lack of status before you know it there will be groups protesting for protected status for things like males who own cats or females with rats. or perople who perfer the color red over yellow.
my point is, everyone is afforded the excat same things in this country. for some it is a bit harder and well thats life it never is or will be fair. but there is no system or laws preventing people from any background from putting in the work and building a life . not one rule or law prevents one person who is entittled to be here from succeding, it takes hard work to make it even more work to keep it and while some have it easier in certain aspects than others those have an entirely differant set of hardships and struggles that many margianialize. our differances is what makes us valuable and instead of using them as an excuess for not acheiving we should be looking at them for their value.

So basically it’s a software problem not a hardware problem. To me it’s about changing the internal narrative and seizing the external narrative, which is a shared experience and that’s why we need solidarity along with a diversity of view points. Strong individuals make a strong collective organism. Liberty naturally arises from this.

they forgot to mention justice for Kyle Zoellner. now to remind you he was the minority. he was being jumped by three or four others of different skin color than him and then he got to spend a few days in jail because he was falsely accused (immediately), i mean who gave them the idea that Kyle stabbed anyone? when they had the murder weapon found under a car too far away for Kyle to put it there, because the way i remember it they found Kyle unconscious under the body of the attacker Josiah. so if they want to represent minorities dont forget the white boy that got jumped by a bunch of non white boys instead of standing up for the assailant and his crew.

there are already yearly parades and protests that focus entirely on black issues and queer/trans issues.. do either of these groups spotlight women’s issues? no.. they focus on their own agenda like they should. so why cant there be an event that focuses entirely on women’s issues? instead its about race and transsexual men? we are supposed to be more concerned about a black man that attacked another and was subsequently killed instead of the many innocent women murdered by men right here in this county? what about the female hsu student that was raped and murdered in the shower? the woman and her 8yo son that was recently killed in willits? khadijah britton? there are MANY women who live with domestic violence, are raped or molested, sold into the sex trade, cant leave their man without fear of being killed, etc.. plenty of womens issues to deal with.. but no, we only care about the black man who got himself killed and men who want to be women..all about men and race even at a women’s march… ridiculous!

~of course, the title. “Women’s March” – nah, i don’t much care for it.

“Storm the Castle March” is so much more whole.

It is well known by more than 60 % that there was no federation. The corporation in DC does not have jurisdiction, and the Queen was found an impostor in 2011 JAH vs REGINA jury trial….Top Brass know. Time to reinstate the unincorporated de jure government, over seen by the Receiver (trustee in bankruptcy), General (military persona), for (not of) America. Address 2041 Mlk Jr Ave Se Suite 130. Washington, Washington DC 20020 from where SSI transactions come from.

A government de jure, of, for, and by the people has the grace of the people to create interest free currency and as a result cannot be bankrupt. The cestui que trust must be accessible to the flesh being from whence it came. The pseudo debt must be moved to the credit side of the accounting CROSS of COMMERCE, onto which all living were hung via the Birth Certificate. A contract with an infant is prima facie ab initio. There is a short time allotted for these changes. The old boy’s club is gone. The debt is paid.

“U.S. Citizen” ownership and control-determination action is slavery. We the sovereign people have the rate charts and the 12.3 % per annum accruement. Remember, a short time. The Vatican enslavement through Unam Sanctum 1302 and the Cestui que vie has been revealed. Corporate pope Frank is cool. Thy will be done. The bones and the brothers and others are in serious peril. Lawyers (bar attorneys) and judges are also in woe. Enjoy the light show.

You know everyone here has said something at one time(not in public) that was off colored or not politically correct. The president said this in a private conversation not intended for the public. So get off your high horses and drop it. If he is so against women then why in heaven’s name did he higher so many women? These marches are a bunch of bs. They are definitely a bunch of trouble makers just trying to stir the shitpot.

Please tell me the protesters that are protesting the protesters are white. There is no way , however you describe people with more melanin, are at the forefront of that group.

Real question, since according to some saying “people of color” is “racialized language”, what word or words do we use to describe people of color? Can we just say melanin rich people?

Not because I’m darker, but because it’s summertime.

I usually burn once in the beginning of the summer and I’m good after that. Though my nose is real sensitive to sunlight, so it continues to burn if I don’t put on sunscreen. I would say I eat the same amount of chicken throughout seasons and of course watermelon is a seasonal fruit. I will occasionally buy one out of season, regardless of my nose being burned or not. Now for my chicken preference, I like thighs and legs for the grill, but mostly thighs. Chicken breast not so much on the grill, but its nice to bake or even deep fry. I love chicken wings, but refuse to buy them at a bar or restaurant, unless its all yo can eat. Chicken wings are pretty expensive. If you like wings at a good price, try Angelos Pizza during lunch buffet. Although they don’t have the nacho bar anymore, its still worth the price.

See how you brought race into that?

The organizers of this march have made it clear. They don’t care if you are black, Muslim, Latina or gay, if you don’t vote like they do, you are not one of them. You might not even count as a woman! They do not believe that conservative women have their own opinions. They believe that women only vote for conservatives because their husbands tell them to. Hatred against women of color who vote conservative is not only acceptable, it is encouraged by Women’s March organizers

I’m aware of the intentions of the pink pussy hats, but those intentions have been receiving feedback for a few years now, and not all of it has been positive. What people do with negative feedback is important. To ignore criticism risks cultivating an echo chamber. Receiving criticism and considering it potentially strengthens a movement.

Further thoughts on why prioritizing the good of the many (women in general) instead of intersectional feminism (acknowledging the differences and unique needs within the general population)…

A hypothetical scenario: You are building a cabin to be accessible to as many women as possible. Most of the women will be able to ascend a small set of stairs to get inside. Some might see a cabin with stairs as the best solution. But taking a moment to understand the needs of the elderly, disabled, and injured women in the group, an alternative solution of building a ramp would make it easier to make the cabin accessible to more women.

I have come to much prefer the second sort of strategy, and it has taken some angry people being underserved by stairs yelling at me while I tried to explain that I’m just a simple stair-builder trying to help, to get me to understand the differences in those strategies.
