France vs Spain, Tuesday at Noon.
England vs Argentina, Wednesday at Noon.
After the tournament, I hope FIFA does a serious review of some of the rules– especially how VAR is used. It sucks to have such important matches mired in controversy.
While they’re at it they could fix the stupid time clock. You never know how much time is left until the end of standard play when the ref pulls some number out of his.. thin air, to account for play stoppage during penalties. Why not use a countdown clock and stop it for play stoppages like they do in “real” football.
On Thursday the White House released draft regulations that if enacted, would give political appointees the final word on federal research grants and other funding across government agencies.
Scheduled to be officially published in the Federal Register on Friday, the 412-page proposal on federal spending rules would centralize Office of Management and Budget (OMB) control over releases of government funds, including for scientific research grants. The OMB is headed by Russell Vought, lead architect of Heritage Foundation’s Project 2025 plan for the Trump administration.

This is just a continuation of the destruction of the US reputation as a leader in science that this administration has undertaken. It is perhaps the stupidest of all the extremely stupid things that has been done by these folks and it has been done simply because the actual science refutes so many of the policies they are enacting.
I don’t know how to react to this one. A plus for bringing it to our attention and a minus for its contents.
