A driver was injured Tuesday afternoon after a vehicle left southbound Highway 101 just south of Hopland, traveled approximately 50 yards down a steep embankment and overturned. According to the California Highway Patrol’s online Traffic Incident Information Page, the crash was reported at approximately 2:15 p.m. near the Green Bridge. Initial reports indicated the vehicle traveled about 50 yards off the roadway and down a steep embankment. The driver reportedly told dispatchers that they had fallen asleep before the crash, according to the CHP incident log.

In a Facebook post this afternoon, CHP said the vehicle left the roadway, traveled approximately 50 yards down the embankment, rolled over and came to rest on its roof.

Because of the vehicle’s location, multiple emergency responders worked together to safely extract the driver, according to CHP. Photos released by the agency show CHP officers and firefighters working on the steep, grassy hillside to move the injured driver up the embankment.

The driver sustained minor to moderate injuries and was transported to Adventist Health Ukiah Valley for treatment, CHP reported.

The CHP incident log indicates firefighters were dispatched to the scene shortly after the crash was reported. At approximately 3:09 p.m., the log stated that Ukiah-area fire personnel would transport the patient. The difficult terrain also complicated recovery of the vehicle, with CHP requesting a tow truck equipped with approximately 150 feet of cable.

The collision remains under investigation.

101 South of hopland has always been a problem area. Be careful around there. Alot of drivers in a hurry to be on vacation. Thanks again to the responders.
