A white SUV overturned on State Route 299 west of Berry Summit this morning, coming to rest on its roof in the roadway. Traffic control has been set up in the area.

The crash was reported at approximately 8:17 a.m. about two miles west of the Berry Summit Vista Point near mile marker 28.40. Initial reports indicated a white Honda SUV had been involved in a collision, with both lanes of the highway blocked.

Photos from the scene show the SUV resting upside down near the center of the highway on a foggy stretch of roadway. Traffic cones were placed around the vehicle while motorists were directed through the area.

A tow truck was requested, and officers sought an expedited response due to traffic impacts along the busy mountain highway corridor.

Although early reports raised concerns about possible injuries, CHP ultimately classified the incident as a traffic collision with no injuries.

By 9:20 a.m., CHP reported that traffic control measures were in place and that the roadway remained open under controlled traffic conditions while crews worked to clear the scene.

No additional details about the cause of the crash or how many people were in the vehicle were immediately available.

This information is based on CHP dispatch records and conditions observed at the scene. Additional details may be released as the investigation continues.

Brain fog will get you every time. Sometimes the fog is so thick near the summit it is hard to tell where you are on the road. Happy to ready that there were no injuries in this accident. Looks like the SUV held up very well.

I was going up over there once and I drove into thick fog just as I reached fresh pavement that hadn’t been painted yet. Instant IFR and panic.

Pay attention to your airspeed, artificial horizon and altimeter and you will be fine.

That only works when you’re above the highest local terrain.

Bozo, surely you know he was not flying an airplane. Well maybe the SUV was off the ground for a split second or two. But he had to land upside down because his landing gear did not deploy.
