A tree blocking all four lanes of Highway 101 near the Dyerville Overlook was cleared Friday afternoon after briefly halting traffic in both directions.
The California Highway Patrol logged the incident at 4:22 p.m., with a reporting party describing a 12-inch tree down across all four lanes at the 34.90 mile marker, just south of the confluence of the South Fork and main stem Eel River near the Dyerville Overlook and Mattole Road turnoff, north of Weott. Caltrans was notified and a CHP unit was en route by 4:26 p.m. The tree was cleared by 4:34 p.m.
Wind in the area was recorded at 13 mph with gusts up to 31 mph at the time of the incident. The downed tree was the second reported Friday in the South Humboldt redwood corridor — a separate tree came down across the Avenue of the Giants earlier in the day. Motorists in the area should remain alert for additional hazards as gusty conditions continue.

He said it was amazing to see everyone who helped and the fact it was all civilians that cleared the road and no first responders.
