Humboldt County Seeks Public Input on Mental Health and Housing Services Plan Through May 28

Press release from the County of Humboldt:

Humboldt County Seal 2017 featureCommunity residents are invited to review and comment on the Humboldt County Draft Behavioral Health Services Act (BHSA) 2026-2029 Integrated Plan.

Prop. 63, also known as the Mental Health Services Act (MHSA), was passed by California voters in 2004 and placed a 1% tax on personal incomes greater than $1 million to fund the development and expansion of mental health services for children, youth, adults and older adults. In 2024, the passage of Proposition 1 made changes to how counties have to utilize MHSA funds, which includes the addition of a dedicated housing component. Prop. 1 renamed the MHSA to the BHSA.

The comment period runs from now through May 28, 2026. A public hearing is scheduled for May 28, and will be facilitated by the Humboldt County Behavioral Health Board in a hybrid format. The meeting runs from 12:15 to 2:15 p.m. For those wanting to attend the meeting in person, the meeting will take place at the Professional Building located at 507 F St. in Eureka.

Additional information on the public hearing will be available on the Behavioral Health Board’s May agenda, including the Zoom link, at humboldtgov.org/BehavioralHealthBoard.

The Draft BHSA 2026-2029 Integrated Plan is available for review here (PDF).

Feedback can be provided by emailing [email protected] or by mailing comments to DHHS Behavioral Health, Attn: BHSA Comments, 720 Wood St., Eureka, CA 95501. To request a printed copy of the plan, call 707-441-3770 or toll-free 866-320-8911.
