Pedestrian Safety Project to Start on Route 1 in Fort Bragg This Wednesday

caltrans district 1 logoConstruction of the Fort Bragg ADA Project, an effort to improve accessibility and pedestrian safety, is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, April 15. The project includes new sidewalks that meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards, retaining walls and storm drain upgrades along Route 1, from Junction Route 20 to West Elm Street in Fort Bragg.

During construction, expect minor traffic delays and temporary access impacts may occur within the designated work area. Measures will be implemented to minimize disruptions and maintain safe access for vehicles and pedestrians.

Ghilotti Construction has been selected as the contractor for the $9.5 million project, which is scheduled for completion in 2027.

Caltrans will give a presentation regarding the improvement project at the upcoming Fort Bragg City Council meeting on Monday, April 13 at 6 p.m. An informal open house is also planned for Tuesday, April 28, from 5 to 7 p.m. During this event, staff will be available to address questions from both the public and business owners at Fort Bragg Town Hall, located at 363 North Main Street.

Always start these projects during tourist season. Getting through town now is bad enough, this will be a nitemare for working people.
