Two Clearlake Residents Charged with Murder After Routine Traffic Stop Uncovers Two Victims
This is a press release from the California Highway Patrol. The information has not been proven in a court of law and any individuals described should be presumed innocent unless proven guilty:
On April 5 at approximately 8:50 a.m., California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers conducted a traffic stop on a gray Chevy Suburban for a registration violation on State Route 53 at Dam Road in Clearlake.
The vehicle continued until it stopped on 18th Avenue near Oak Street. During the stop, a male passenger, Alex Kenneth Schussolin, 37, of Clearlake, tried to flee, but officers quickly detained him. The driver, Jasslynn Pearl Critchett, 32, of Clearlake, stayed at the scene.
Suspect vehicle — 2000 Chevrolet Suburban
While contacting the driver, an officer noticed blood inside the vehicle and traced it to the rear passenger area, where officers found an unresponsive adult male. The person was later pronounced dead. Based on these circumstances, officers launched a homicide investigation. As officers secured the scene, they found a firearm near where Schussolin had fled. Detectives from the CHP Northern Division Investigative Services Unit (ISU) and the Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team responded and took over the investigation.
During the investigation, detectives identified a possible additional victim connected to the incident. They responded to State Route 175, about 1.5 miles north of the Lake-Mendocino County line, where they found a woman who was deceased down an embankment.
Investigators believe the incident started in Sonoma County and moved into Lake County before CHP officers made the traffic stop. Authorities have taken both suspects into custody and booked them into the Lake County Jail on two charges of murder, carjacking, being a felon in possession of a firearm and being a felon in possession of ammunition.
Press conference at the Clear Lake CHP office
Authorities have informed the victims’ families. Currently, there is no ongoing danger to the public, and investigators consider this to be an isolated incident.
“This case demonstrates how quickly our officers need to assess and respond to unexpected situations,” said CHP Northern Division Chief John Pinoli. “What started as a routine traffic stop rapidly turned into a complex investigation. Our personnel, along with our allied partners, responded swiftly to secure multiple scenes and protect the public.”
CHP detectives continue to collaborate closely with local law enforcement agencies on this ongoing investigation. Anyone with information is urged to contact CHP at 1-800-TELL-CHP.
The CHP Northern Division thanks its allied partners for their assistance, including the Lake County District Attorney’s Office, Clearlake Police Department, Lake County Sheriff’s Office, Santa Rosa Police Department, Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety, Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office, and the CHP Golden Gate Division ISU.
The mission of the CHP is to provide the highest level of Safety, Service, and Security.

1st Rule- Never commit a misdemeanor while committing a ..umm…double murder?
One crime at a time
Always make sure your registration is up to date when committing anything. Speeding, hauling weed….murder….
The article mentions a carjacking. Were the perps driving the car they jacked? If so they were not paying attention to details…
It’s in a link from Lake County I posted below, but from it (Harris and Fuentes are the ones that were murdered).
It’s believed Critchett and Schussolin met Fuentes and Harris for the first time on Sunday in Santa Rosa, Krones said.
Krones said the Suburban did not belong to Critchett or Schussolin. Fuentes and Harris had been in legal possession of the Suburban, which belonged to someone else. That’s the reason for the carjacking charge.
Tis a good rule, but they already broke a second law, auto theft. If the victims tags had been up to date, these murderers might’ve gotten away with it. Who would ever think their expired tags would solve their murder?
This is a very scary pair of murderers
just driving with a deceased body after dumping another deceased body.
You never know what evil is driving around our streets.
Maybe they were trying to relive the movie a weekend at Bernie’s . All joking, aside this is all absolutely horrific, may these people rest in peace.God bless their souls.
They seem nice.
Wow… her ‘facebook ‘ page is a ‘stay at home’ mom. Scroll through the photos.
(I’m assuming the facebook is the correct person).
What led to this ?
Yes, that’s her.
Driving around with a dead body with expired tags
Real smart.
Thank.goodness these idiots are off the street. California needs to actually start using the death penality for crimes like this.
If not only for crimes like this but also for being that stupid. We need to weed these kind of people out of our air supply.
I keep saying the Lake is making them all crazy down there.
0 points for reading comprehension. Two people murdered for their vehicle in a remote location. Leave the bodies where they fell, intend to clean not yet reported stolen vehicle at second location. Officers then notify killers to the fact the stolen vehicle has out of date registration tags. A well planned crime hoisted by a simple mistake in a double homicide that otherwise statistically would have gone unsolved.
Probably would have been treated as two separate crimes one fatal shooting in a remote location and one missing person and their never again found vehicle. Probably would have tried to make the case the missing person was the killer of the other victim.
You seem to know more about these murders than what is in the article. Inside info? No mention of running a stolen vehicle. Perhaps CHP needs to take a look at what you know.
The article clearly states “while committing a car jacking”.
These activities are taught in mendo schools.
If you read the press release it appears the only connection to mendo was that they likely passed through the southern most part of the county
I agree
Families have been notified, why not identify the victims?
Facebook post from claimed family member names victims

Also. ID’d from FB.And apparently from some comments, just out of jail, and right back in now.
Maybe those charged mearly found the body and were on their way to the police station to turn it in to the authorities.
Just park at the Safeway in Clearlake, go inside, and take a walk around. Outside and inside: More than a few exceedingly weird and threatening people. Drive thru some neighborhoods and see astonishing levels of poverty. Clearlake: High danger area.
One time I had blood all over my hands and wreaked of gasoline after helping a motorcycle wreck victim, no one batted an eye at the Clearlake grocery outlet. I had to draw attention to it when they tried to tell me I couldn’t use the restroom because they don’t have public restrooms anymore.
And I agree about the extreme poverty, it makes no sense. They are surrounded by areas with decent to great incomes. Clearlake has dirt roads in the middle of town on residential streets, they’re so riddled with potholes that postal workers won’t even deliver to. Smack, dab, middle of town.
Yet their city manager just got a raise to over 250k a year for clearlake !!! Lake county has a average income of somewhere around 50k makes no sense that a public servant would justify over 5 times that amount
That’s insane! Especially since I imagine the average Clearlake resident makes far below the county average. Honestly, no public servant should make that much.
That’s why a lot of folks look for government jobs; the pay is much better. And harder to get fired from too.
And the pensions!!Pigs at the trough…
To be fair, Lake County is surrounded by areas with better incomes, but it’s a long drive to get to those places. I live in Lake County. Takes me 90 minutes to get to Santa Rosa, about 2 hours to Woodland. No other areas around have decent incomes.
