First reports from the driver stated that her vehicle had gone off the roadway in an area not visible from passing traffic. The driver, who was inside the vehicle, told dispatchers she was trapped.

150 feet down a steep bank would scare the hell out of me. I can’t imagine how that lady feels by being trapped and waiting for the first responders to get to her and get her up the bank to the road. I really hope she is not injured too bad and will be fine.

Air bags can save your life.
Good luck for a full recovery.

Bill, air bags are great, but they deflate quickly. They can’t help you escape your vehicle when the doors and windows won’t open.

Seems to be very fortunate that she could place a call from that location.

Cell phone service poor at best around there.

Why would she plunge off the side of the highway unless she was distracted by maybe a cellphone? Happens often and it can be ugly especially along the Smith River.

I meant to say you have no idea why the car and driver went off the road!

Right on. However, articulating a probable cause can be helpful, as it helps us better understand the risks associated with our environment.

Yeah, I can remember back before cellphones, no vehicle was ever known to go off the highway. It’s a completely new phenomenon.

Did you ever consider they could have been avoiding an elk or a bear?

Slim chance but could be. Let’s face it, most tourists usually stop (in the middle of the road) when elk are on the road. Keep this in mind, the worst thing about elk are tourists.

Does anyone remember when the fisherman found the white Ford Explorer submerged in Freshwater Lagoon? With the driver still in it? Guess it had been there a while. Apparently she drove off 101 somewhere and wound up in the Lagoon. South end I believe. Not sure. Met the daughter of the driver once. She told me it was sad when she never came home because everyone in the family was accusing her stepdad of, “offing her Mom, and dumping her in the woods!” That poor girl had some serious issues!😔

Yes….the south side of the lagoon is quite deep and it would be easy to fly off the 101 there. Special people also drive very fast at that point .
