Extrication After Vehicle Crashes Into Pole at D and Long in Eureka

traffic accident

A vehicle crashed into a pole near the intersection of D Street and Long Street in Eureka just before 8:15 a.m. today.

According to scanner traffic, the patient was “trapped inside of a smoking vehicle,” and the crash knocked “multiple lines down.” The patient was reported to be unresponsive when emergency personnel arrived at the scene, but they later regained consciousness.

An extrication response was requested to get the patient out of the vehicle. PG&E has been notified of the pole issue. At this time, the type of vehicle has not been reported over the scanner.

We will update this post when and if we get more information.

Typical residential eureka Street. Most are posted for 25 mph. Such an impact makes one think the vehicle was going over the speed limit.

Jinkies, what a way to start your Sunday. I hope everyone’s okay.

Kym, have the police released anything about the crash in February at Broadway and Wabash that killed the man? There was only one followup report that wasn’t clear about what happened, and we still don’t know the victim’s identity.

His obituary was on LoCo. It’s shocking that with his background he still ended up homeless: https://lostcoastoutpost.com/2026/mar/7/obituary-dennis-buddy-ohligschlager-1942-2026/

Yes, I read that; what it doesn’t specify is whether the driver was eastbound turning left or westbound turning right. Guess we’ll never know. Thanks for responding, and for all your work.

You’re right, there is no actual statement as to which way the RV was headed, east or west. But I believe the driver was westbound turning right. Here’s why I think that…

From “the current facts known about the collision“, we see, “The RV collided with the pedestrian prior to the pedestrian reaching the double yellow line designating the turn lane for Broadway.” That statement indicates to me that the RV was westbound. If the RV was eastbound, the only way the pedestrian could have been struck prior to reaching the double yellow line designating the turn lane for Broadway would have been if the RV turned into southbound Broadway lanes, which was not the case.

They didn’t crash into the pole, they crashed into a truck, then a Tahoe and drug it into the pole, snapped the pole and moved it from its parking space into the neighbors yard.

I wonder what went on in their head. I always wish i knew more about why people do the things they do.

Might have been caused by a medical emergency. Heart attack or stroke or something.

Surprise…. Nothing was going on in their head . There’s nothing there. Wait till the bill comes for replacement of a power pole.

Yes, anybody? Drinking\drugging, medical, or bad driving?
