Rotary Club of Eureka Awards $1,700 to Play Street for New Multi-Sensory Play & Education Center
This is a press release from the Rotary Club of Eureka:
The Rotary Club of Eureka has awarded a $1,700 grant to Play Street, supporting the group’s mission to create an inclusive space for Humboldt County families and to empower parents of children with intellectual and developmental disabilities in advocating for their children. This grant will help fund essential equipment for Play Street’s new Multi-Sensory Play and Education Center, opening in Eureka this July.
The new Play and Education Center will feature a Multi-Sensory Environmental (MSE) Play Space, a Multi-Sensory Art Space, and a Multi-Sensory Garden. Multi-Sensory Environments are proven to be therapeutic and calming for children with disabilities, autism and other sensory disorders, especially when they have autonomy and control over their own social experience. “Our hope is that this space becomes a model for inclusive play and education in our region,” said Shannon Townsend-Bettis, President of Play Street. “We want every family to feel welcome, supported, and empowered.”
The Rotary Club of Eureka’s Small Grants Program is funded by Rotary members and community donors, supporting local organizations committed to youth development, senior support, community health, literacy, and homelessness. The Rotary Club’s dedication to service extends from local initiatives to global impact, with ongoing work in fighting food insecurity, empowering youth, and promoting literacy.
Local organizations interested in applying for the next round of Small Grants can do so until September 30th. For more information or to apply, visit www.rotary1.org.
