Both lanes of Highway 101 are blocked this afternoon following a traffic collision involving a passenger vehicle and a semi-truck near Last Chance Grade in Del Norte County.
According to the California Highway Patrol Traffic Incident Information Page, the crash was reported at about 1:06 p.m. at mile marker 15.5 on northbound Highway 101. Initial reports indicated that a Hyundai Accent ran into a semi-truck with a white cab and flatbed trailer.
By about 1:we p.m., CHP Crescent City posted on X (Formerly Twitter), “Both lanes are blocked” near the Last Chance Grade traffic light.
Tow services were requested, and responders asked for a heavy-duty rotation wrecker to help separate the two vehicles. A construction crew at the scene used chains in an effort to pull the vehicles apart so the roadway could be reopened.
This is a developing situation and information may change as more details become available.
UPDATE: Road cleared.

There’s no traffic light on or near the last chance anymore.
No, but a wreck will definitely bring things to a stand still.
No medical responders is a positive sign.
