Highway 36 has reopened west of Grizzly Creek Redwoods State Park after recent closure tied to ongoing slide activity in the area, according to Caltrans.
Caltrans reports that motorists should expect delays of up to 30 minutes as crews continue hauling slide material out of the catchment berm. Those delays are expected during daylight hours today and tomorrow, with shorter delays anticipated overnight. Drivers are urged to proceed with caution through the slide zone.
The reopening follows a series of closures and traffic disruptions along this stretch of Highway 36 in recent weeks and the last year, as winter storms repeatedly triggered slides near Grizzly Creek Road. In earlier coverage, officials noted that saturated slopes and unstable material have made the area particularly vulnerable, requiring intermittent closures while Caltrans crews clear debris and stabilize the roadway.
Caltrans advises travelers to check Caltrans QuickMap or use the QuickMap app for the most up-to-date information before heading out, as conditions can change quickly depending on weather and slide activity.
