[Update] Water Emergency Declared as Redway Residents Asked to Conserve Through Holiday Week

rcsd logoThe town of Redway has declared a Stage 4 Water Emergency after its water supply was compromised over the weekend, leaving the system unable to produce enough drinking water to meet community demand.

In a notice issued Monday morning, Redway Community Services District (RCSD) officials said residents are being asked to reduce water use to no more than 50 gallons per person per day for the next five to seven days. The emergency declaration takes effect immediately.

According to Glenn Gradin, an RCSD rep, the disruption is tied to ongoing infrastructure work and current river conditions. Crews are preparing for the installation of a new 250,000-gallon water tank, which required the removal of an older tank to allow construction of a new foundation. At the same time, officials said water production has been limited due to poor river clarity, which is preventing normal treatment operations.

Water officials said they will resume normal water treatment procedures as soon as conditions in the river improve enough to safely do so.

Residents are urged to conserve water as much as possible during the emergency period while crews work to restore adequate supply and complete preparations for the new storage tank. Further updates are expected as conditions change.

Update:

Redway Community Services District officials said Tuesday afternoon that Stage 4 Water Conservation measures will remain in effect through December 29, as the district slowly resumes water production following the weekend disruption.

According to RCSD representative Glenn Gradin, crews are now able to make limited amounts of water as river conditions gradually improve. The district’s water gallery, located approximately 20 feet below the riverbed, becomes more effective as the river clears. “The clearer the river gets, the clearer our water gallery becomes,” Gradin said in an email update.

Gradin said the district will re-evaluate conditions on Monday, adding that officials are optimistic based on current trends. “We feel confident that we see the way out of the woods,” he wrote.

Residents are still being asked to limit water use to 50 gallons per person per day until further notice, while crews continue managing reduced production and prepare for the installation of a new 250,000-gallon storage tank.

They’ll take their time getting it back online I see
Of course they will. Michael mckaskle always makes sure they charge double when there is a “don’t use water” demand.
If we use what we’re paying for he fines us, and if we save water like we’re asked, we have to pay more for it
