Two-Vehicle Crash on U.S. 101 Near Bayside Sends One to Hospital
A two-vehicle collision occurred on northbound Highway 101 just north of the Bayside Cutoff on Saturday Sunday evening. One person was injured.
The crash was reported at 8:19 p.m. as a truck versus car incident. According to the California Highway Patrol Traffic Incident Information Page, one of the vehicles, a Dodge Ram truck, struck another vehicle, pushing it off the roadway and into a ditch.
Initial reports indicated one woman was lying on the right-hand shoulder with possible injuries. At 8:47 p.m., CHP dispatch confirmed that a patient had been transported to Mad River Community Hospital.
Traffic on the northbound side was temporarily impacted. At 8:26 p.m., the No. 2 lane was closed while emergency crews responded, but vehicles were allowed through in the No. 1 lane. Tow trucks were called to the scene to remove the damaged vehicles, including a Honda Civic with major right-side damage, sitting about 30 feet off the roadway.
By 9:30 p.m., CHP reported that the roadway was cleared and fully open.
This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
Please remember that information gathered from initial reports is subject to revision as more facts become available.

was this last Sunday? or tonight, Saturday?
Saturday 8/23 as correctly stated just under the headline — but as you point out incorrectly stated in the opening sentence — mistakes are gonna happen but Kym is dealing with major family issues and posting late at night.
thanks for pointing out that mistakes are gonna happen.. I never thought of that one.
I’d like to suggest that you keep people’s personal lives to yourself aswell. thanks.
as always Kim THANKS you’re the best and we APPRECIATE all that you do for us!
First, it was very obvious RHBB wasn’t reporting on a week old minor traffic accident so the question marks were superfluous.
Second, if you’ve been paying attention you’d know that Kym has been very open about serious matters in her life so me saying she’s dealing with “major family issues” wasn’t getting into her personal life and wasn’t news to anyone but you.
cool, thanks.. go team you!
My error. It was yesterday. Fixed.
Kym, I have been posting a few very nice comments for several days and they just disappear. Have I done something wrong again?
Any comments you made yesterday were approved yesterday like this one: https://kymkemp.com/wp-admin/edit-comments.php?s=75.111.26.37&mode=detail
I just started moderating comments today. My apologies for the long delay. It’s been a rough year with multiple family members having health issues and this week I was gone for three days. The rest will be up shortly.
I am very sorry about your family members with health issues Kim. I was not aware that you were gone. Please accept my apology!
Of course, I had no idea, like most of us. So sorry if I came across self-aggrandizing or insensitive. Best wishes and hopes.
No worries! You were fine.
😊❤️!
I hope the woman that was injured in that accident is going to be fine. I do wonder why the Dodge Ram truck hit the women in the first place. Too much speed, not paying attention, intoxicated, mechanical problem, etc. I can’t blame the Dodge Ram driver until we have all the facts.
Given “major right-side damage” to the Honda it’s more likely they caused the accident by turning in front of the Dodge Ram — but why speculate at all (as you often do) when the facts aren’t known?
That left turn towards Eureka should be blocked off. I always go to the Samoa to 101 to go to Eureka. Yes it it is a little longer, but much safer.
I live in Bayside and almost always take Old Arcata Road to get to Eureka in order to avoid the cutoff. Closing the Indianola cutoff forced a lot of traffic onto Bayside cutoff and it’s even more dangerous now.
I do speculate now and then, but in this case, I was not sure about the Dodge Ram hitting the woman. I did say I sure can’t blame the Ram driver until all the facts are in. I was not there so I will rely on facts only. Thanks for your reply to me.
Speculation can be rude and insensitive, but you went ahead anyway and absolved yourself while criticizing Martin. This may have been the same problem as Indianola Cut-Off where people cannot perceive the oncoming vehicle and turn right into it, even in clear, dry weather.
Ha! — I had nothing to absolve myself of — but maybe I can help you — try this:
“Goest thou and sin no more!”
