Mateel’s Summer Arts and Music Festival Moves to Southern Humboldt Community Park in 2025
Press release from the Mateel Community Center:
Mark your calendars now! June 21st and 22nd 2025 the Mateel Community Center is making an historical change that has been a long time in the making. The 48th Annual Summer Arts and Music Festival is moving to the Southern Humboldt Community Park!
For years the Mateel and SoHum Park have been working towards more collaborative efforts. With the success of last years Picnic in the Park, SoHum Park’s long running fundraiser, we are now ready to move Summer Arts and Music Festival to it’s new home at our beloved park!
After a return to our roots last year, hosting the festival at the Mateel Hall, we are once again ready to expand Summer Arts and Music Festival to this amazing new location. It just feels right to bring together two of Southern Humboldt’s best community assets, the Mateel Community Center and the Southern Humboldt Community Park, to expand this homegrown historical festival onto the beautiful grounds of this community gem.
Don’t worry, everything you love about Summer Arts and Music Festival will stay the same, the local handmade vendors, the showcasing of our local musical talent, kids activities, great international food, and great headliners to dance the night away!
More info and details will be coming soon, as well as advanced ticket deals, so keep your eyes and ears open, check out the website and social media, and save those dates! The 48th Annual Summer Arts and Music Festival is June 21st and 22nd 2025 at the Southern Humboldt Community Park in Garberville, CA!

Wow, good thing the Park Board is getting water from GSD. However, according to the Parks approval to have large events at the Park (2500 to 5000 persons per day) the Park Board has allot to do as far as site mitigation is concerned:

I wonder if the Park will need to get approval from the Planning Commission again, because of the size and scope of this event? I would love to submit public comments again:

Did anyone check with the CHP and if they changed its mind about allowing such large events at the Park using Sprowel Creek Road? Since they did oppose events at the Park with over 2000 attendees, citing many reasons why it would create a public safety concern.
There will be accidents.
Here is the letter and comments from the CHP:

It’s honestly a better location than the County Line Ranch. Maybe with California’s budget crisis the state park system will need to raise cash and it can go back to Benbow at some point.
Its crazy to think how much the Mateel spent on permit and environmental documents with the Planning Department to have SAMF at County Line Ranch (Outraged Orangutan, LLC.) for just one year (2023). Maybe ask Alisha Goodrich, [email protected], since she was the Mateel Event Consultant:

There goes the wildlife habitat and neighborhood at the Park, with traffic, loud music late into the night, public camping and an endless stream of party goers to use and abuse a wonderful peaceful area…
