‘States Must Be Allowed to Regulate Ghost Guns and Prevent 3D Printing of Firearms’: Attorney General Bonta
This is a press release from California Attorney General Rob Bonta:
California Attorney General Rob Bonta, as part of a coalition of 21 attorneys general, joined a multistate amicus brief in support of a Colorado law requiring anyone in possession of an unserialized frame or receiver to obtain a serialization by January 1, 2024, and prohibiting a person from using a 3D printer to create a frame or receiver. The case, National Association for Gun Rights v. Polis, is currently being reviewed in the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals.
“These requirements are crucial in keeping ghost guns out of the hands of dangerous individuals and critical to solving violent, firearm-related crimes,” said Attorney General Bonta. “In the State of California, we have seen firsthand the effectiveness of our commonsense gun laws, and it is imperative that similar laws are implemented nationwide. Each year, an increasing number of unregistered firearms and firearm components find their way into our state from areas with laxer gun control laws. This not only leaves law enforcement in the dark but also puts our communities at risk. We cannot accept this as the norm, which is why I am committed to protecting the well-being and security of all Californians through commonsense gun laws.”
A Colorado district court rejected plaintiffs’ challenge to the law, finding that several plaintiffs lacked standing and concluding that the statute does not burden plaintiffs’ Second Amendment rights because it only imposes a condition on a firearm’s commercial sale.
The amicus brief explains that many states prohibit the possession and sale of unserialized firearms, emphasizing that reversing the district court would endanger these prohibitions. Second, the brief offers policy-oriented arguments for why the Tenth Circuit should uphold Colorado’s law, explaining how unserialized firearms contribute to gun violence and how the absence of a serial number hinders law enforcement. Finally, the brief explains that Colorado’s law comports with the Second Amendment because ghost guns are not commonly used by law-abiding citizens for lawful purposes.
Attorney General Bonta joins the attorneys general of Arizona, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Washington, Wisconsin and the District of Columbia, in filing the brief.

Sounds pretty common sense to me.
Knowing who has guns and what kinds of guns in no way infringes upon the Second Amendment.
No not the second but the 5th it pretty much violates . The facts are simple the government has no right to maintain a list of what people own. Just the fact that they feel that they do is pretty common sense proof that the government does not view the citizens as a free people but as something they are to control when it is the citizens responsibility to control the government. Once the balance of power has shifted from the citizens to the government the free become the slaves and that is where we find ourselves today. The second is there so that the government can not take freedom by force from the people to keep the government ‘s power in check . Those that decide to be fearful of others freedoms to the point that they wish or act to remove those freedoms deserve to be neither free or protected by the free
It’s not their business what guns we own. Government that governs least is best for the people, not a communist dictatorship.
If some criminal wants to get a gun they can get one, laws do little to stop them. We shouldn’t be collectively punished
It would sound like common sense to people who live for the nanny state of Bonta and Obama.
Knowing who has guns? You know what criminal has under his car seat?
Its now about crime and safety. Its about taking you guns. All of them. Crime is an excuse for more gun control.
Didn’t Bonta “accidentally” release private information of that type just a year or so ago?
I’d like to see the .gov apply their own rules to themselves. If things were fair and just the .gov wouldn’t be able to have ANY guns- their record of misuse is over the top. Millions of people have died because of the .gov “protecting” the world for democracy…or “making it safe”. Turns out, they are a bunch of irresponsible toddlers that doesn’t know how to have a simple conversation. It’s usually by force and at the point of a gun. The .gov should be the last to ever have a right to own a gun- they do not respect it or human life. At least Biden remembers the codes for the nukes
Did you see the police shooting yesterday in Brooklyn.? They shot 2 innocent people and a cop. For a guy avoiding a subway fare.
It’s not that difficult to 3D print anything anymore. There’s even apps that will take photographs of different angles of things, feed it into the printer software and presto! Instant anything. No darkweb gun plans needed. This ban sounds good but unless you check in on everyone that’s ever bought or owned a 3D printer you’ll always be behind in the enforcement. More like something that will get found in a raid or search warrant being served for something else.
You can print a fully automatic rifle.
Now common sense I bet is something you wished you had when it comes to guns. You will never in a million years be able to tell who has guns and who does not. No matter how hard you try guns will never all be taken away from criminal’s intent on using or owning them.
California Attorney General Rob Bonta should try taking the firearms from the people who are not allowed to own them first. My guess is that it would make crimes with a firearm drop to near zero. I guess we all know that’s not what he really wants in the end.
Criminals are not allowed to own firearms yet all are criminals ice thought though but faulted in the fact that it is the government who decides who is right and who is wrong and who can do and who cant that is not a free people but a enslaved people
In order to achieve that we would have to pass a law requiring gun owners to responsibly store their firearms. Overwhelmingly criminals acquire firearms from home burglaries. Storying firearms in gun safes could prevent this.
That’s nice but only works if the safe is used. Nothing to keep someone from locking up all the rifles, but leave the pistol sitting on top of it. You can pass a hundred laws and a hundred will get ignored. And the bit about requiring un-serialized guns to get new numbers is laughable. On what planet do bureaucrats think some people are going to comply with that order? Those numbers were scratched off for a reason.
Many times there never was a number to scratch off in the first place when someone builds their own firearm the aft only requires it to be numbered when it is sold . There ate thousands of people who build hobby firearms and never sell them hence zero numbers
safes are also so easily defeated simply watch how long it takes law enforcement to break into on with a crow bar and sledge hammer when they encounter one while severing a warrant . The answer is in teaching people how to handle differences how to be responsible and how to handle freedom .
it is far to easy to believe that ones truth is the only truth very easy to judge others without looking at things through someone elses eyes very easy to demand laws and action to restrict someone else then it is to use self restraint with the understanding that in order for someone to be free they must allow other different than their own actions but that in their own personal freedoms they do not need to agree with but allow just as they wish for themselves the same freedom and rights
Nope. A battery powered angle grinder will break into most safes. Modern diamond blades on a normal circular saw will cut steel easily. Modern carbide blade in a saws-all… go through like butter.
Hey, knowing who has a battery powered angle grinder doesn’t inhibit the second amendment.
So you might as well add saws-alls, cutting torches, lock picks, crowbars, hammers, circular saws, computers, files to the list too.
(Along with a lot of other things).
I guess I’ll just have to keep using regular old machine tools to make guns. You’ll never take my Bridgeport!
Bridgeport goes Brrrrrrrr
What a great idea! Pass laws restricting the rights of law abiding citizens in order to control the actions of criminals who by definition do not abide by laws…
Your comment is spot on Bud!
Not going to happen. That ship has sailed. The building of guns is older than apple pie and more American.
Exactly, look how well prohibition of alcohol or cannabis went..
And not even American, but 10th-century Chinese.
Laws will never do anything to keep ghost guns or any gun outta criminal hands, especially laws that have no teeth. This is just election year dribble. If u wanna keep guns out of criminals hands: Arm the Populace. Make it a fair game. If they were truly worried about criminals and violent crime they would not have let in millions of illegal aliens. They would not be handing “get out of jail free”cards to career criminals.
The fact is it’s as easy to buy a ghost gun in Northern California as it is to buy a pound of traditional market cannabis.
Maybe we should keep decision making out of career criminal politicians.
That would be a great start to make America Great Again!
The Second Amendment and Founding Fathers’ Views
The Second Amendment to the United States Constitution states:
> “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”
>
This amendment has been the subject of much debate and legal interpretation over the centuries.
Founding Fathers’ Perspectives
The Founding Fathers had varying views on the exact scope of the Second Amendment. However, there were some common themes:
* Self-defense: Many Founding Fathers believed that individuals had a natural right to self-defense, and that the ability to possess firearms was essential for this purpose.
* Militia: The primary purpose of the Second Amendment, as stated in the text, was to ensure the existence of a well-regulated militia. This was seen as a necessary safeguard against tyranny and foreign invasion.
* Individual Rights: Some Founding Fathers also believed that the right to bear arms was an individual right, separate from the militia. This interpretation has been influential in recent legal decisions.
It’s important to note that the Founding Fathers’ views were shaped by the historical context of their time. They lived in a world where firearms were essential tools for survival and defense. Their understanding of the Second Amendment was influenced by these factors, as well as by the political philosophy of the time. Our rural area necessitates having protection as a 911 call will do nothing to stop an invader or intrusion. If your in the hills or rural areas your best insurance is to be armed and ready.
Yep go back to the way things were in the old west. A lot fewer people per capita got shot then right?

Tombstone, AZ.
Press release a day from this blowhard. Sundays even … blah blah blah
It cause and effect. Vote in a communist pos like Newsom and get a communist pos like Bonta appointed as AG. The result is make law abiding citizens criminals and set free all the real criminals. There’s no such thing as a common sense law coming from a communist government, demonstrated by 21 communist AGs in this particular case, likely 21 communist governors as well. It’s time to wake up and vote this trash out permanently. It’s not likely to happen, since most of these states are filled with pro communism citizens, brainwashed by the communist dictators in our so called government.
Ahh but refill a 1 lb propane can and drive to your camping spot and you just committed a felony there by baring you from owning a firearm . See your keep firearms out of the hands of criminals sounds good sounds like common sense until you scratch the surface of just what makes a criminal anymore and who decides who is charged and how . The second does not state that it applies only to those whom have no record . In fact it is those with whom take issues with the government whos rights the second is there to defend . There would be no need for the second if it was intended that the government were to control who did and who did not have the right to arm themselves
Get bent Bonta!
It’s cars that do the real damage…
Stop people from building cars in their garages!
And Reynolds Wrap! That shit is as thin as tissue paper, and it won’t “wrap” anything… This needs legal attention!
I can’t even buy a light bulb, and they used to be a buck for 4 of the damn things…
I’m pretty sure nobody knows exactly how many guns they own, so what’s the problem? I personally have some, I bet…
Americans: More guns than people! THAT’S what we call “freedom”…
That, and Harleys… Boats with dry stacks, and Pickups with tires that stick out the wheel-wells…
If you don’t like guns, go on down to Mexico, and get yourself an MP-5, which is a Nazi gun favored by Cartel folk…
Remember:
If you shoot someone, you will have a legal problem you are not prepared for… So own a gun, but don’t fire it!
America is about illegal stuff, and you can’t turn around and fart twice without breaking some law…
Either go hang around some church social with the old women or go out and break some laws!
It’s the American way…
You’re onto something here. I heard the US military is trading rifles for sedans. You know because they’re basically the same thing in terms of killing potential.
