What is offensive about an invitation to reason things out?

There is a lot of wisdom in the Bible. At least 10% of it.
However…
“With reasonable men, I will reason; with humane men I will plead; but to tyrants I will give no quarter, nor waste arguments where they will certainly be lost.”― William Lloyd Garrison

Yours is a more appropriate quote to post here, much more fitting to the current climate for discussions. Thank you for sharing.

Agreed. The Bible gets us worked up because so many have used it as a tool of oppression or at least annoyance lol. But some good sayings and stories are in there still…if you can reasonably detach them from the brutal history of the Bible thumper people

The quote is from what many call the Old Testament, better called Hebrew Scripture. I don’t think many Hebrews would think of themselves as Bible thumpers.

Is it any wonder why Shakespeare is still quoted?

Would it be better if we were in Minneapolis and got to hear the call to prayer five times a day?

You can hear that coming from Shamus Tbone each morning. He says 3 times a day.

It appears that many could benefit from prayer more than 5 times a day.

Yes we should all stop and and wait till the voices in our heads tell us what to do that is the sane option , lets bring the word of the great meatball to the world ! By force if required and burn all those who do not follow it ! May their lives be spent overcooked and rubbery

Really? Who? Front page of the NYT print edition, 9-5-2024 features a report on what has happened to Afghan women since Aug., 2021 when they returned to power. Infidels never do well either, including Sunni on Shia violence. Praying five times a day on a prayer rug has done them no good whatsoever. Anybody can pray anytime, but it’s hard to run an economy when THE MEN have to take religious-ritual breaks on a rug five times a day. Historically, we know that religious ecstasy never held back the Popes or Charlemagne from slaughtering infidels. Almost every day there is news of religion-induced strife, the current Hamas-Israeli war being only the most obvious. Many American Christians support Donald Trump!?! The Russian Orthodox Prelate supports Putin’s war in Ukraine! See, it spreads The Faith!
in the long run, religion has been a disaster for humanity. Many good people are deeply kind and loving, but they don’t wind up running the show. The Whigs became the Republican Party and gave us Abraham Lincoln, our greatest President and giant of history. In a lousy 150 years they are now controlled by Donald Trump, a wretched example of humanity, an international embarrassment and disgrace to America. The Republican Party, like the Whigs before them, needs to collapse in their decay and reorganize as a patriotic organization, or they will live in infamy, just like Trump.

Never mentioned “Taliban” which is who I was referencing in the 2021 Taliban victory. Project 2025 is a Taliban test balloon for The Modern Republican Party here at home. You can keep voting for it and they will keep at it.

I spent four nights in a Palestinian hotel in Bethlehem last year and the muezzin would blasting pre-recorded prayers from a minaret a couple hundred yards from our hotel every few hours starting between 3 and 5 am. It would be perhaps captivating if the prayers were actually sung by a human but they’re blasted from loudspeaker at about 100 decibels to wake up the entire town. I came to resent adhan after a while

In all fairness if you’re going to quote crap from a book how about equal time for J.R.R. Tolkein?

Love when people quote Tolkien, a devout Roman Catholic. His works are saturated in it but very few recognize or will give credit.

So you find Hebrew scriptures offensive in their entirety, regardless of what they say? Do you find all scriptures offensive, the Christian Testament, the Koran, the Bhavagad Gita, and the Tao Te Jing? Or are you only offended by the Hebrew?

The only time it’s objectionable when limiting freedom of speech is when THE GOVERNMENT does it. Private enterprise can and does limit speech everywhere and it’s legal.

For Whom the Bell Tolls
by
John Donne

No man is an island,
Entire of itself.
Each is a piece of the continent,
A part of the main.
If a clod be washed away by the sea,
Europe is the less.
As well as if a promontory were.
As well as if a manor of thine own
Or of thine friend’s were.
Each man’s death diminishes me,
For I am involved in mankind.
Therefore, send not to know
For whom the bell tolls,
It tolls for thee.

I’m confused, was the unoccupied RV actually in the highway, or was it parked beside the highway and did the Tacoma go off the road and hit it?

Seems like it was parked and the pickup crashed into it. If the RV was parked or abandoned unsafely and there were no safety cones or markers. If that’s the case, the RV owner should be held accountable.

I’m pretty darn sure the Shamrock Ranch is SOUTH of Laytonville not North. I’ve almost hit an elk herd crossing the highway there at night…before the elk xing sign got put up…I was very surprised and shocked to slip between 2 elk. Lucky for every day since….RIP to this person and sympathies for their loved ones

If that is so… How is your scolding any different?
I believe that we have all understood that a person died, and we are diminished by their passing. We don’t know anything else. We don’t know why they crashed. Maybe they died before the crash, fell asleep…. etc. For all we know, it could have been one of our loved ones. If so, we will be able to mourn more appropriately. Up until then it is just dust in the wind. People die every day.
My condolences to the family and loved ones. We are all diminished.

Apparently, the mere mention of organized religion is enough to derail many of our collective ‘trains of thought’. Well, I have great news: myself and my friend were very nearly hit by the now-deceased driver of that truck, and can vouch to just how very frightening the entire incident was.
I had just left Long Valley Market and was driving south on the 101 when I noticed a vehicle coming from behind at a high rate of speed. I then noticed the vehicle slowed way down just past the 101 Ranch, and we continued on. Just past the ‘Don’t Forget The Magic!’ sign, I put on my left turn signal, preparing to turn into my friends’ driveway when I suddenly noticed that truck trying to PASS US ON THE LEFT! At that point alls i could do was evade as best I could and get out of the way, which somehow I did. That driver continued on the wrong side of the highway til about Steele Lane, with northbound traffic obviously dodging the speeding truck as it continued southbound in the northbound lane. At this point we lost sight of the vehicle.
Shortly thereafter, we were notified by another friend that the truck had crashed into a parked trailer in front of the old Red Buck Lodge Motel.
That more people were not injured or killed is, at the very least, surprising. I’m pretty sure the gray streak in my hair probably expanded a good quarter inch!
Wishing You All Safe Travels!

Wow… I’m from Leggett & tuned in here to see if they’d announced a name yet but instead spent 5 mins reading y’alls bs and still no answer. Clearly people die every min of every day but rather than sending peace to their surviving loved ones or providing any useful information to this tragic situation that I’m sure has left somebody with a broken heart… you’ve chosen this feed to exercise your freedom of speech and show off your knowledge of famous quotes, Biblical reverence and song verses smh?. (Sorry, couldn’t get passed the 1st 15-20 pages of the old Testament before tossing it in the air. “If the proof was there, faith wouldn’t be necessary”.)

Please try again. Try a few verses of Ecclesiastes and then a few verses of the Gospel of Mark. Repeat two verses from Hebrew Scripture and two from Christian daily and in three years you’ll have read it all. It will do you no harm.

Sorry about your friend. Maybe you can give us a clue as to why they were driving so crazy and endangering others’ lives? No I’m not blaming but from the eyewitness comment above perhaps they had a mental or physical emergency? I know that stretch of road and it’s very dark at night, speed limit changes, fog can lie low across the road, animals appear suddenly….

Good point. Self-Realization- as taught here by the Book of Isaiah- does tend to make one impervious to deception, coercion, extortion, exploitation, subjugation, shaming, and enslavement- All those things that keep the world spinning. “I hope someday you’ll join us.”

Also reincarnation, seems pertinent…
