Arcata Artisans Gallery Features Joyce Jonte’ and Gilbert Castro

This is a press release from the Arcata Artisans Gallery:

During June Arcata Artisans Gallery presents featured artists Joyce Jonte’ and Gilbert Castro. These two longtime members of the art cooperative are widely collected for their deeply creative and expressive works. How they experience our natural world is shown in quite different and powerful ways: Jonte’ through transparent watercolor on archival paper and on Baltic birch, and Castro through hammered silver adornments and handbuilt ceramics.

Jonte’ has pursued a passionate study of watercolor technique in the decades since graduating in Art  (1979) from HSU, establishing herself as a valued member of our vibrant local art community. She collaborates with the Redwood Model Collective, offering 2 to 3 life drawing sessions each week. Sessions are held at the beautiful Redwood Art Association Gallery in Eureka. In her own words:  “In addition to my figurative work, I enjoy plein air painting in the summer months and work from my photos of florals in the winter, describing the exquisite natural beauty that surrounds us. Follow me on Instagram- @joycejonte, on Facebook- Joyce Jonte, and check out my website,

joycejonte.com. I am available for commission and have an open studio by appointment.”

This featured artist exhibit will be on display through July 5. Their work is on display all year also, along with the 20 other local artists who run this fine art and craft cooperative business. Media presented at the gallery include cast glass, woodwork, jewelry, fiber art, painting, printmaking, ceramics, photography and stained glass.
