A new wildfire broke out this afternoon about 2:30 p.m. off Sherwood Road near Little Valley Hall Road in northern Mendocino County, in the vicinity of an active logging operation. The fire, which has been named the Dutchman Fire, is currently burning in slash, a term used for the debris left on the ground after logging operations.

The fire is estimated at 1/4 acre in size. Firefighting resources, including both ground crews and air support, have been dispatched to the scene to contain the blaze. Fort Bragg Wildland Resources (FWLR) is actively involved in the firefighting efforts.

As of now, the Dutchman Incident Command (IC) is coordinating the response, and there have been no reports of structures threatened. Firefighters are working diligently to prevent the fire from spreading, given the proximity to the active logging area.

UPDATE 4:05 p.m.: Air resources were sent home. The Watch Duty app is reporting that forward progress has been stopped.

Unless something unusual occurs, this will be our final update.
