At approximately 3:15 p.m., a traffic collision involving multiple vehicles occurred on Hwy 101 near La Franchi Road south of Hopland. The incident, reported as a “really bad TC,” has resulted in significant traffic snarl, with Hwy 101 currently blocked, according to the CHP Traffic Incident Information Page.

Initial reports state that three vehicles were involved in the collision, with some vehicles ending up in ditches.

Emergency services, including Cal Fire and the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, were dispatched. Two ambulances have been requested to provide medical assistance to those injured in the crash.

Traffic in the area is at a standstill, with vehicles unable to proceed past the accident site.

That’s a bad area. People always seem to drive too fast for that area.

You must be referring to those privileged motorists who think driving rules are for other people.
Seems to be lots of them these days.

And why would that be? Why can’t people just slow down?

Normal motorists respect the privilege to operate a motor vehicle, but it’s the few bad drivers who mess it up for everyone.

What a nasty crash. I pray that the people who were injured will get swift medical treatment at the scene and hospital if necessary. I also hope the boot sticking out the back door of the sedan is not a fatally injured person. Please drive safe everyone.

Daylight, no ice, dry road condition. Mechanical or driver failure as cause? How and why please.

I agree, everybody should slow down. However, when everybody is going 78 mph and one driver is going 65 mph, guess who is causing the problem…

If the speed limit is 65, then it’s “everybody” going 78.

No it would be those who somehow feel like they MUST enforce the speed limit by cutting people off. There maybe a valid reason someone is going fast apart from solely speeding – medical emergency etc…

Speed limit there is 55 mph

I generally put it in cruise control at 58. People coming up behind me are usually satisfied with that.

Driving the speed limit is the correct answer and you’re never required to go faster. Speeders are the ONLY problem.

Sorry to all those involved in the traffic collision. When they were working on 101 just north of Hopland last year, I was stopped waiting for the pilot car to come and let us pass, when I looked in my rear view mirror and saw this car flying down the (hill) road and I thought…..” They better slow………” bam!!! Right into my car , pushing me I don’t know how far. It was terrifying . I can feel and hear that crash in my head vividly . By the grace of God , I’m here telling my story. The young man said he fell asleep, and I’m sorry for that. However , the fact of the matter was he was to busy on his phone, not focused on the road , he was there in his car , but not present. Bad mix, driving way to fast and making your priority your phone and not the road. This was just an inch away from being fatal, to me, him, the flagger and several other road workers . As corny as it may sound to some, it’s a miracle im writing this, and there were no fatalities.
Please, be in the moment when your driving…not on the phone, or letting your mind wander to the party you were at , or the bad day you had or anywhere other than on the road.
I fully believe that being able to converse on your phone “hands free” is the farthest thing away from being safe while driving. When you’re driving, that’s what you should be doing….driving . If your mind is on your phone call, hands free or not, that’s means your mind is not where it should be, completely on your driving .
It only takes a split second to go from “fast ” to “fatal”, so drive as if those you love are in the cars that are on the road around you.

Such a shame when texters just drive off into the local rivers. Responders won’t even remove the bodies until the river goes down.
Oh well, too bad.
