We traveled past there around 3 pm today and narrowly avoided a multi-car collision ourselves because a deer was slowly crossing in front of the Peg House. Lots of vehicles in both directions but the deer proceeded.

Just an FYI: a couple of days ago, I almost took out a family crossing at the curve at the north end of last chance grade. Parents and two small kids straddling their bikes while crossing.
It’s not just deer that don’t know any better.

Likely going onto the ‘old 101 highway’ that runs northward from Last Chance.
That road crossed Damnation Gulch and ended up at Enderts Beach… (just south of Crescent City). Upper end of the old 101 road has collapsed into the ocean.
Enderts beach road is part of the ‘old 101’.

That is a very dangerous crossing from the other side of the highway.

That accident was near Leggett which is many miles down the highway from the Last Chance Grade. But you are very correct in saying that is an extremely dangerous area crossing from the opposite side of the highway. I really hope the folks involved in the accident by the Peg House will be fine.

It’s tourist season within the curtain. Expect more of the same especially when elk are involved. The worst thing about elk are tourists.

The mistake is understandable. An RV is arguably a ‘semi- truck’.
