This is as far as I know stuff.
Two tribes were er… ‘at war’ over the trail that lead from the coast to the interior.
Tribes finally settled their differences and marked the settlement it at the redwood tree. Arrows were stuck in the bark to mark the end of the war.
After that, any braves traversing the trail would carve small arrows out of huckleberry bushes and stick them in the tree.
Somebody later on, set fire to the tree. Now, the tree is mostly a snag that still marks the spot.
The Korbel to Maple Creek road pretty much follows the old trail.

Sure, OK.
That tree marked traditional lower Mad River hunting territory boundaries between Wiyot ( coastal /humboldt bay /downriver) people) and Whilkot (upririver/mountain) people.
There used to be meetings and thngs at that spot too. All gteen Diamond now but its a good spot to camp in olden times and meet up.
Headwaters of the Mad was Nomilaki
I read all this at CR library back in the day. All the studies from building Ruth dam is there. Plus the studies including the 1973-4 EIR for proposed Butler Valley dam. Never built thank goodnes!
It’s all still there for study!
CR library may not be quite as large as HSU but its Great just the same.

I am just happy the driver was not injured other than a few scratches and scrapes. It is a poor idea to refuse medical treatment. The person could have something wrong that they don’t notice right away.
