[Update] 9-Year-Old Struck by Vehicle in Fortuna This Morning
Scanner traffic indicates that at approximately 7:50 a.m. this morning, November 3, a vehicle vs. pedestrian collision occurred at Rohnerville Road and Kenmar Kenwood Road in Fortuna.
The pedestrian was reported to be a 9-year-old male struck by an SUV, though later medical personnel called the vehicle a “truck.”
Witnesses in the area report a bicycle was at the scene of the collision where law enforcement had the roadway closed.
The first report on the scanner stated the patient was conscious and alert with a laceration to their leg. Medical personnel later reiterated that report but stated that the juvenile patient, in addition to the laceration, had a left, knee deformity, and said he had gone under the vehicle, so the ambulance crew wanted to transport the juvenile north to St. Joseph Hospital.
We have requested additional information from the Fortuna Police Department.
Please remember that this story is unfolding. Information is being reported as we gather it. However, some of the information coming from witnesses and initial official reports could be wrong. We will do our best to get the facts but, in the case that something is inaccurate, we will update with correct information as soon as we can.

Who will be the first commenter to blame this on Biden?
Or trump!
You…
You’re not wrong. Fortuna people blame EVERYTHING on Biden. I had a guy tell me he can’t do math because Biden is president ?♂️ like a true republican lmao
In my opinion; It takes a very sick mind to take an event like this and turn it into a political slur session.
Who the hell says something like that after reading about a little boy getting hit by a car… I mean really… ?
On another note.. I hope that little boy is okay and recovers quickly.. ❤️
Well, everything else is his fault, soooo.?

Ah, politics, the new religion

Poor kid. Wishing him and his family the best.
Prayers for the child
Not ignorant insensitive comments.
Safe route to school, eh?
I hope the kid’s okay and the driver considers trading in his murder machine for a sedan.
It’s practically dark at 7:50. Figures, right before daylight savings time change. Next week the kid would be riding with an extra hour of sunrise.
Start school later. It’s been proven that kids, especially teens, need more sleep, and have different sleep schedules than the jaded, baggy eyed, year-to-retirement staff, admin, and teachers at school. Here this little kid is riding his bike to school in the dark; his parents have to get him ready pre dawn. Why? Cuz this is how we’ve always done it. The ancients rise at 0300.
You are such a peach! I enjoy the rays of happiness that shine into all of our lives with your thoughtful, loving comments
Low sun or thick fog make it very difficult to drive this time of year. Pedestrians are extremely difficult to notice. Our best defense is to slow down and be hyper vigilant.
An SUV is typically not designed to conform to passenger car standards for safety nor fuel mileage, so truck would be an appropriate alternate name.

Best wishes for a fast recovery. Cold brings frosty windows. Take a minute to clear them before heading out.
Most kids in fortuna do not wear helmets ….so glad this one did and hope he recovers well. I think perhaps the parents of kids who do not wear helmets are not realizing how much pavement kids ride on these days…it isn’t like when there were more dirt roads etc. ..that is the best “reason” i can try to imagine as to why they put their children in so very much danger.
California has a helmet law….Anyone under 18 is required to wear one. Sadly this isn’t enforced by the police or the schools.
