Tragically “water rescue” usually means body recovery. Thanks to the first responders, especially volunteers, who choose these critical roles.

Not true! Many people are rescued from the ocean, lakes, rivers, etc., every year and they are not dead.

It cannot be said that this rescue failed for lack of effort. In this case, even an overwhelming response by compassionate volunteers wasn’t enough to save a life. It happens. But, regardless of outcome, the volunteers’ efforts always deserve applause.

Agree. Except I’d say use the word gratitude.

I completely agree with your comment. Volunteers are the backbone of many rescues and at times they received no or very little in the way of “thank you” from anyone. But I guess what really matters is that they know they did their very best to save a life. May God bless all of them.

It sounded like there was hope for the two folks in the water with all the trained people on scene, but sadly when I read the update at the bottom of the page my heart was just broken. May the person who lost their life RIP. My condolences to their family and friends. A BIG HEART FELT thank you to all the first responders who tried their very best, only to have the person slip away.
