The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office Marijuana Enforcement Team (MET) collaborated in the Southern Humboldt area today with the assistance of the Butte County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) helicopter. This collaboration represents a concerted effort to combat illegal cannabis cultivation in the region and respond to community concerns. The helicopter, identified as N487HB, was observed circling in various areas, including Salmon Creek, Harris, and Alderpoint.

According to Humboldt County Sheriff’s Public Information Officer, Samantha Karges, “MET is utilizing the BCSO helicopter to investigate locations we’ve received complaints about.”

This is not the first time that N487HB has been dispatched over Southern Humboldt for such purposes. In late August of the previous year, the same helicopter was deployed on at least three separate occasions, and it also took to the skies over the region in October.

The Butte County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) says on their website, “BCSO utilizes…aircraft to locate and eradicate illegal marijuana gardens, assist in Search and Rescue missions, take aerial photographs of crime scenes and assists to patrol officers during pursuits are some of the types of missions our aircraft are used for. BCSO currently has four helicopter pilots and three fixed wing pilots.”

I know, right? You can see these grows from space, without binoculars. Copters were good when weed was hidden under the trees.

lol, this in no way will divide the community. Anyone who uses the words cannabis and flower when discussing weed is a narc and cannot be trusted.

Right I use the word Cannabis because marijuana is a racist term used to demonize it during the beginning of prohibition, a Mexican term that at the time. Shaming white folks. Same on you!

Complaints my ass! Why would they need a helicopter? If there truly were complaints, the location would be known and could be verified by satellite imagery or local plane. What a waste of taxpayers dollars. That helicopter costs about $1,000 an hour. The County has a 17 million dollar budget deficit. The Sheriff seems to have no fiscal awareness. I believe the State has set aside at least 20 million dollars for illegal cultivation enforcement. Let the State, including the BCC and CDFW enforce it. If a dog is involved, call CalFire. Second thought, don’t call CalFire.

The Planning Department did more in three years than law enforcement did in five decades. Of course this has resulted in economic devastation to Garberville, Redway and Willow Creek. This of course has trickled down throughout the County. Just ask the car dealers, furniture stores, clothing and specialty stores, restaurants, etc.

Now we have legal business men against the illegal weed growers. Some of whom are cartel employees. Good wipe them all out. Monsanto needs less competition.

Mr. Clark, you sound like Mr. Biden, you both seem to ramble and spew out incomplete thoughts or sentences. Who are the cartel employees – the “…legal business men…” or “… the illegal weed growers.”? Does Monsanto have legal cannabis farms in Humboldt or anywhere else for that matter? Kym – I think we need an age limit on commenters and Presidents. What can you do?

Isn’t the county paying like 600 grand a year for Access to the Google earth satellite? I would much rather see sheriff’s on the street taking care of the opium/ Fetnale/ tranqu epidemic. And maybe help out businesses with that Delusional MAGA made up surge in shop lifting and petty theft that isn’t happening. Especially Considering the state legislation doesn’t want owners of businesses or their employees doing it. It took my Bulgarian neighbor several hours to get a hold of law enforcement ( Because there was no sheriff on duty locally) and he was out of the country to report that crazy lady that was squatting in his house and starting fires in order to have her removed from his property, Because apparently it’s okay for crazy people to start fires and Vandalize people’s houses and possessions as long as the owner of the property doesn’t complain.

C’mon are you serious? I thought Prop 64 was doing away with enforcement and everyone would be safe and the weed would be free man.

Oh wait, the government lied? I thought they were honest and truthful?

Put the chopper away already, it’s a waste of our money, there is a whole flight and ground crew involved in the maintenance of the darn thing, and it costs an astronomical amount in gas. Send one deputy in a squad car with a drone to the area that has been reported on and fly the thing over the grow, heck those things are so small the deputy could fly it into the patch and count every plant if he wanted to. One deputy per the county of his jurisdiction and a drone. That’s it. Two deputies if they skeered and feel like they need some backup while they fly the thing. Get with the times and stop wasting money.

We the people need to threaten to withhold paying taxes for a whole year if these jerks in government don’t start respecting how hard we work for the money they waste.

If you actually think that, the problem is not “government lies”, but the fact that you didn’t actually read Prop 64.

I’m starting to suspect that somewhere in prop 64 there’s a provision that requires at least one comment making the “gee, I thought when we legalized weed everyone would be free and happy!” [joke] on every story about cannabis enforcement

Hopefully dropping those samples of hop latent virus onto those permit pansy scenes. Hey- Monsanto has a workaround for HLV- just buy their special genetically engineered seeds and clones! Yeah these permit pansies “Step into the light” and “We are good players” who then began selling their weed on the traditional black market because “We had to!”. They didn’t care when all their neighbors got abated but even that wasn’t enough for them. Now they are turning in their neighbors nd insisting on spending taxpayer money to eradicate their competition on the black market. Somehow they will still claim the high moral ground. Dirty and spineless permit pansies…they will be happy to “grow their brand” and then sell out to Monsanto or whoever when that time comes. It’s been their secret strategy all along…”We worked hard helping to destroy this community and we deserve lots and lots of money”…NoTegridy Farms…

Some pretty huge exaggerations there…..
Dirty and spineless is making false claims that legal farms are turning people in.
You have zero proof.

I feel like your anger is kind of misplaced, very few growers HERE that now have legal farms voted for prop 64 that I know, even if everyone in triangle didn’t vote for it it wouldn’t matter because basically LA and SF make all the decisions for this state, most my neighbors were abated so some decided to pay the extortion fees and get a permit. What choice did they really have. I do understand the anger though.

That’s kind of his shtick. He’s mad about the way the industry has gone and decided to direct that anger at “the permit pansies” and claim that they all ratted/sold out their neighbors because they thought they would run the legal weed game.

Many people, many times, have expressed that none of the farmers they know voted for prop 64 and that none of the regulated farmers they know have any dreams beyond surviving in the industry they’ve spent their life in.

Yeah, they actually flew Trinidad last week. Circled Moonstone heights multiple times at super low elevation. Reminded me of many years ago. Used to be if they circle you a couple times then come back and check you out again the cops will be at your place in about a week. Not sure how it works now…..

the reason for a helicopter because the law says u cant use Satellite to obtain a warrant you need to see it with police eyes. so they use satellite to find it and use helicopters to put eyes on it to obtain a warrant.
