Community Input Wanted for the Manila Gateway Monument Project
Press release from Caltrans District 1:
Clean CA Program Coordinator for Caltrans District 1, Julia Peterson, leads a brief presentation Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2023, about the Manila Gateway Monument State Beautification Project proposal.
We want to hear from you!
Caltrans invites the local community to share their input about the proposed gateway monuments in Manila.
Gateway monuments have been considered for placement along SR-255 for visibility in both directions. The purpose is to greet motorists to the community and remind them to adjust their speed and care for the residential area.
Community engagement and feedback is an important part of project development to ensure local voices are being heard throughout the process.
Simulations for project design and locations can be found in the online survey at tinyurl.com/ManilaGatewaySurveyThe public is encouraged to take the online survey about the need, location and design for the proposed project.
You can find the survey at tinyurl.com/
ManilaGatewaySurvey. Be sure to visit and let your voice be heard about this community project. The survey will be open until Sunday, Sept. 17, 2023, at 11:59 p.m.
Community members learn more about the Clean CA State Beautification Project proposal at the Peninsula Community Collaborative meeting Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2023 in Manila.
Project simulations are displayed for attendees to view and vote for their favorites at the public forum held Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2023 in Manila.
About the Campaign:
Clean California State Beautification projects are made possible through Governor Gavin Newsom’s Clean California initiative, a sweeping $1.2 billion, multiyear clean-up effort led by Caltrans to remove trash, create thousands of jobs, and engage communities to transform public spaces. Since 2021, the program has removed 1.4 million cubic yards of trash, created 3,500 jobs, and awarded $300 million in local grants. Visit CleanCA.com to learn more about how Clean California is transforming communities and educating the public.

Lisa,
Vanilla has two “l’s,” Manila has but one.
That meeting wasn’t in Manila, it was at the Friends of the Dunes clubhouse, not in Manila.
Why? Who is running the show? It certainly isn’t for the good of Manila, since the parasitic FOD’s have had their way with our wildlife and wetlands, they have diminished greatly. We need a journalist who will ask the needed questions that will bring light and repair to our highly damaged natural resources.
Thanks.
PS FOD’s have never been a source of honesty. Ever.
Good comment. This project is an utter waste of money. Who’s getting paid the big bucks for orchestrating this silly thing? People are really struggling- divert this cash to an improved mental health system that is imploding. Or food. Or gas. Real essentials needed for families.
Fixed the spelling issue. Thank you.
It would be really nice it the State would spend some of that road money on County roads instead of studies and phu-phu gateway projects.
And online surveys being done to make us all feel good about the phu-phu gateways. It’s insanity. We don’t need pretty signs and crappy roads!! Anyways- why have all the public chime in? Let the people of Manila decide what gateway sign they want- it’s their community! It’s weird to invite everybody everywhere to decide what sign the people of one town get to have…and it’s disrespectful to the locals there
You nailed that one for me Ernie!
I fine with the current sign. “Population 2000, elevation 10 feet”.
How about a sign exhibiting the legendary Manila crouch with a chip truck, a road shoulder, wood chips, sand, mycorrhizae, the dreaded oh nooooosssss invasive lupine, and crouching humans. Why, yes! The good old dayzzzz. Surf more! Fogbank.
