Press release from the Six Rivers National Forest Service:

Due fire activity and to reduce risk to the public and firefighters, the Six Rivers National Forest is implementing a forest closure order on the Orleans, Ukonom, and Lower Trinity Ranger Districts. Under this closure order it is temporarily prohibited to be on any national forest system land, road, or trail within specific areas on the districts. To view a map of the closure areas, Click Here.

Within the Six Rivers National Forest (SRF) Lightning Complex there are currently 9 fires located across the Orleans, Ukonom, and Lower Trinity Ranger District with a combined acreage of approximately 7,044 acres. The Type 1 California Interagency Incident Management Team 2 is in command of the complex, which also includes fires located in the Redwood National and State Parks. The Six Rivers National Forest received 150 lightning strikes across the forest over the span of 24 hours beginning the evening of Monday August 15, resulting in 27 confirmed fires. Fires are located as far north as the Oregon border south to the Mad River Ranger District. There are currently three Interagency Management teams on the Six Rivers National Forest assisting the forest with management of these fires.
