Eureka Man on Felony Probation in Possession of Fentanyl and Stolen Firearm, Says HCDTF

This is a press release from the Humboldt County Drug Task Force. The information has not been proven in a court of law and any individuals described should be presumed innocent until proven guilty:

Raymond Allen Payton [Booking photo provided by the HCDTF]

Raymond Allen Payton [Booking photo provided by the HCDTF]

On July 4th, 2023, Officers with the Eureka Police Department conducted a traffic stop on Raymond Allen Payton (age 31), in 1000 block of Broadway in Eureka. After a multi-week investigation, the HCDTF believed Payton was in possession of large quantities of fentanyl pills and several firearms. Payton is a convicted felon and on felony probation with a search clause.

During the traffic stop, EPD Officers found a loaded .38 caliber revolver and a small amount of fentanyl in
Payton’s possession. When EPD Officers checked the serial number on the firearm it was confirmed to be stolen. Due to the narcotics and the stolen firearm located in Payton’s possession, Agents with the HCDTF and Officers with the Eureka Police Department responded to Payton’s residence in the 200 block of Sonoma St., Eureka, to conduct a probation search.

During a search of Payton’s residence Agents located 600 fentanyl “Perc 30” pills, over a 1/4 ounce of fentanyl powder, digital scales, packaging materials, and a non-serialized .40 caliber handgun.

Payton was arrested and transported to the Humboldt County Jail where he was booked for the following charges:

  • 11370.1(A)              Possession of a controlled substance while armed with a loaded firearm
  • 29800(a)(1) PC       Felon in possession of a firearm
  • 25850(A) PC           Unlawful possession of firearm on person/vehicle
  • 25400(A)(1) PC       Unlawful possession of concealed handgun on person/vehicle
  • 11351 HS               Possession of narcotics for the purpose of sales

Anyone with information related to this investigation or other narcotics related crimes are encouraged to call the Humboldt County Drug Task Force at 707-267-9976.

A mere 600 fentanyl 30s… he was not operating a charity. Our community is a deeply sick and profitable marketplace. The wasted lives and Ill or dead bodies just keep piling up whether or not we fess up and own what is ours to own.

If you don’t know the person and you don’t know the whole story then you might want to not say anything, not a single person has the right to say or judge anyone. So unless you know what your talking about . Keep your remarks to yourself. Those are serious charges and I do not like the fact that fentanyl is all over the streets and killing people. It is a evil drug . I wish we could find all the lowlife adults that got all the young kids hooked on this shit to feed there habit . There is a major problem out there and it needs to be taken care of. Prison is not the answer these people need help and they are not getting it . They are stuffed away and forgotten about. So if you all want to always be on here just waiting to make stupid ignorant comments. Get a life. Maybe put your waisted time into helping others rather than talking s#*t. Stop judging and start doing stuff to help change things

Are you sticking up for this piece of crap who sells fentanyl it doesn’t seem like you’re sticking up for the people who are addicted to it. And just for your information, people who are addicted to drugs cannot be helped unless they want to help themselves. Or maybe you’re not sticking up for this drug dealer but just a little reminder fentanyl kills people. It kills people and if we could make a difference and make people stop doing drugs, then maybe we would but as I said, people can’t force people to quit drugs. People have to want to quit drugs and then they can get the help they need but you can talk until you’re your blue in the face to someone who is a drug addict and if they don’t wanna quit, there’s nothing that’s gonna happen. in the perfect world of butterflies and rainbows yes we could change everything.

Some of us miss the County Farm up near the airport in Mckinleyville. Homeless, drug addicts, alcoholics, and low-level offenders got 90 days to work hard, dry out, and learn a little if they chose. Then they were given new clothes, $25 (roughly a month’s salary for a GI), and a bus ticket out of Humboldt County.
It was not perfect; but the current rot you inmates of my old stomping ground have allowed to fester makes me sick
The fact you don’t like these comments is irrelevant and arrogant. None of us has the right to tell anyone to shut up.

Put that in your crack pipe and smoke it.

I told no one to shut up. All I said was if you don’t know the persons story , then don’t make a remark. Very rude remarks are being made. And none of you know his story. I also hate the fact that this stuff is destroying our town and our children. This town gets thousands of dollars in grants to help this situation with the drugs and the homeless and yes they are doing some, but not as much as they can. I see it every day here. They give the homeless shelter but don’t do anything about the drugs . So now a homeless person has a place to stay and do there drugs. And still not pay rent. Nothing to rehabilitate. They should be testing them and help them get a job. and they’re not .. So how is that making anything better?
Or they put them on ssi so now it gives them money for the drugs. Yes Some of the homeless have mental health issues and can’t work. But there is a high percentage that can work. It’s not just the drug users making this town fall apart . It’s also the people that have the job and the resources and the grant money to help . And only do things to make it look like they are helping. They talk the talk but don’t follow through.
There is so much more that can be done to help and it’s not being done. It’s just making things worse.

Judging people is part of being a human being. Every single person does it, everyday, all the time. It’s called Natural Selection and using ingrained instincts to avoid situations which could endanger your life. Perhaps that is why so many people unwittingly become crime victims. They didn’t listen to their inner voice saying, don’t walk down that alley, dont wear that Rolex in the Tenderloin, don’t give that person a ride, don’t give that person money and open up your purse right in front of them, etc, etc, etc. It’s simple, do you want to live or die, it’s up to you. Or just be a lemming and follow the herd right off the cliff.

Or lowest. I feel sorry for the fellow, though he’d probably kill me for saying so. I just hate the hold drugs have on folks. Yeah, it’s self-inflicted; but no one wakes up as a child and says “I want facial tattoos, a drug addiction, and years in prison”.

You are right. And if you knew him and knew his story maybe people would not be making such rude and disrespectful statements. And I’m not saying that any of this is right . And I’m not making excuses. It’s just that everyone has a story and until people know it , I wish they would get a life and stop talking shit about people. It’s sad and really hurtful how I see on here every day people being so mean and hateful. Instead of being hateful. Maybe try to help just one person. People need to Stop judging what they know nothing about.

” they’ve ruined my town.”it was never like this bad when so and so was chomander and queef of this here my country” You make it seem like you believe this is exclusive to the area you were born in and never left, but it’s not. This is happening all over this country. Both in rural and urban areas. People are quick to blame users, dealers, the opposing political party, the fuckhead in the white house ( any and all of them) all this blaming, how has it made any sort of change, positively or negatively to this problem many of you are losing hair, and gaining higher blood pressure numbers over, ultimately taking time off yer life, or at least effecting the quality of it. You look at them and conclude they are the problem. They are the cause for all the pain and anguish and suffering you spew over comment boards. You go somewhere and see poverty and conclude you are the victim?! People doing drugs, selling drugs, oding on drugs, for the most part, dont see you as the problem. I don’t read very many comments or opinions or news for that matter, but I think I’d be hard pressed to see as much just overall hate, hate in it’s truest form targeting a very specific demographic of people. I’ll bet you want to spit on them when you walk by, don’t you? The only thing holding you back is the fear of how these scary, smelly, low light, low lives would respond. Shy of that when they see you, there blood doesn’t boil, they dont start thinking about how there gonna plaster the internets comment sections and forums with xenophobic filth so they can make themselves feel like they did something, then sit there waiting for some to do the same so they can have brother n arms. They usually just ignore you, maybe have chuckle at you, the victims expense. Maybe get an intrusive thought of humility brought upon by your apparent reaction of there presence alone and the position you place yourself, making sure your above them, them below you. Creeping thoughts of “where did it go wrong”, thoughts that can have a spiraling effect that can drag them, who are already considered by some to be a rock bottom, to a deeper and darker place where there isn’t even the will to survive at the bottom. A place you victims can not even fathom. So another bowl gets rolled, another bottle drunk, another plunger pushed, another bag exchanged palm to sweaty palm for a damp bill, cos maybe you can buy your way out, or change yer head to prevent it being pulled down by the intolerable weight. As for the commenter MOM, I hope you stopped reading this filth but if you didn’t just know that your not alone, and there are those of us out there that have your back, and know that mistakes don’t make someone bad, ( hateful malicious nonsense directed at a mother having to cope with some heavy shit on the other hand…. Might be indicative of someone being, I dunno…. ) I hope the best for your son, I hope he makes these people choke on their words and proves them wrong. This is coming from a son whom has had a very worried mother. I haven’t done a full 180 and changed completely, but she is a little less worried these days, so it is possible.

The 5150 blog has a pic of the .38 revolver.

Nice little snubnose Ruger.

“Non-serialized .40…” Might have been one of the Polymer80 kits for G22, G24 or G35.

Nice kits at a great price and really easy to finish and run well with minimal lapping, if done right.

They won’t ship to California, but will to every state around us, and just a short jaunt to Dayton from Reno if you’re in the area to save on shipping. Plus you can pick up some 15 or 20 round mags while you’re there.

A 10 round is what comes with those models in California. One could put 7 rounds in any magazine with a higher capacity, dontchaknow? 15 or 20 round magazines make for more pleasurable shooting when one doesn’t have to stop and reload every 10 seconds when one IS practicing. There’s 27 and 31 round mags available for some models and one can even find a 50 round drum should one be so inclined. A little heavy for a pistol but nice to have for one of the carbines.

Humboldt County has turned to shit. 20 years ago none of this would ever of happened. I went to Dollar General today in Fortuna and literally saw eight homeless druggies in the matter of 10 minutes for tuna. It’s now like a little Eureka and it’s disgusting. Murders in our county thievery tweakers everywhere it’s disgusting

Was in Fortuna yesterday by Safeway. Disgusting people were sitting right there, in the open smoking stinking meth. Not weed. No security in sight. Smirking as we walked by. Fortuna was the last stronghold of keeping these guys away. It’s not just Humboldt.

And 95% of these people that are locked up and put in prison just makes their lives worse rather than trying to do something to help them change their life and change the things that they are doing. But instead everybody wants to lock them up and send them to prison to where they deal with hard-core Murderers, and people that don’t really care about their lives. No matter what you wanna think a lot of these people don’t want to be where they’re at today. I don’t know how I don’t have the help that they need. Instead, these cops would rather pick and choose, and ruin their lives even more than they are they are ruined. so you guys really need to stop making comments about things that you know nothing about. Yeah send them to prison and make their life worse so when they get out they’re a totally different person and a worse person.

Do you need to have an aspirin for your terrible thoughts. Why don’t you guys just open your eyes and look at the whole picture these people are not helped in anyway they either go to jail and get a smack on the hand and released so they feel they have fair game. Or there people that really want help and don’t get the help that they need matter how much they ask. They just arrest him and send them to prison and end up making their lives worse. Instead of making stupid, ignorant comments I would just like one of you to man up and try to help somebody or try to help the situation other than talking shit. Or get to know one of these people and see what kind of people they really are and see what the story is before you say mean things about them . You guys really need to look at the whole picture rather than just reading stupid things and making stupid comments. He wants of the damn you want this place better do something about it to help these people instead of beating them down
