A white Ford F-350 crashed into a tree just north of Hwy 36 on Hwy 3 about 6:44 p.m. According to emergency personnel at the scene a 54-year-old woman is “trapped from [the] waist down” but the extent of her injuries is unknown.

According to the CHP Traffic Incident Information Page, Trinity County Sheriff requested an air ambulance and extraction equipment.

Please remember that information gathered from initial reports is subject to revision as more facts become available.

UPDATE 7:26 p.m.: The dispatcher told emergency personnel on scene that Reach air ambulance service declined to respond due to weather. She is going to request the CHP helicopter respond.

UPDATE 9:35 p.m.: The woman is still trapped in the vehicle almost three hours since the first reports came into emergency dispatch, state scanner reports from about 15 minutes ago.

According to Astrid Dobo, Post Mountain Fire Chief, who is not on scene but is in touch with her crew, Post Mountain Fire is on scene and so is Hayfork Fire with their Jaws of Life.  She said Cal Fire and two Trinity County Life Support ambulances are on scene also.

UPDATE 9:58 p.m.: Dobo tells us that the ambulance left the scene Code 3 about 30 minutes ago with the patient.

The CHP is now listing this as a major injury accident.

Dobo says the patient had three dogs at the scene. T”Two ran off and we need volunteers to look for them,” she said. One is tied to a tree at site and may need foster care especially for this evening.

UPDATE 10:54 p.m.:  Emergency personnel worked through multiple hours in the cold snowy dark to free the injured woman.

Chief Astrid Dobo tells us, “Trinity Animal Control picked up the one dog that was tied to the tree so it is good for tonight. We still need people to go look for the other 2 dogs in the morning.”

UPDATE Tuesday morning: Trinity County Animal Control has located the two other dogs. Kudos to those folks for giving us two reasons to smile this morning.

Wait. Someone tied a dog to a tree and left it in this weather?!? How fucking cruel.

Wow.

I hope the lady recovers and her other dogs are found safe and sound.

Man, you sure are cranky. I am sure the dog was tied to the tree so they could help save a human life without worrying that the dog would run away like the other two dogs did. use your head ya cranky old lady!

According to the article, the dog was tied to the tree temporarily so it would not run away. It has been taken in for the night and will continue to be cared for. As I’m sure you can imagine, the dog was probably extremely frightened from the accident, knowing its human was injured and it’s two other companions had run off. Rescuers did the right thing to tie him to a tree to keep him there, safe, and (I’m guessing here) near the scene.

Leave the dogs along. They are like homing pigeons. It will take time, but they will find ?

That doesn’t look like an F-350…just saying. I hope the women recovers and her dogs are found safe. It’s good there are two of them to keep each other warm if they hunker down somewhere. If she’s from the area, maybe they know their way home!

I sure hope this lady will make a complete recovering from her major injuries. A big THANK YOU to the emergency personnel who worked for a long time in the dark and cold conditions. Mountain rescue heroes! Another no respond by REACH AIR, just disgusting. Thank you to the CHP chopper crew for flying in those conditions to help transport the patient. God Bless you!

What a fantastic job by all the rescue crews. Hope the driver and her dogs get over this. Maybe REACH AIR could requisition cojones from the United States Coast Guard. Many accidents occur during bad weather. Who funds R.A.? Couldn’t they fly out and look?

Last night around 7pm we came across two husky look alike dogs on lower rattlesnake Rd ,My husband and I tried to call them but they seemed scared and they ran off into the woods. I tried to capture a video but the resolution isn’t that great.
It won’t allow me to post the picture or the video.
Regardless I hope it helps they get found and wish I could of done more but they were terrified ?
