Very sorry to hear this… to have his death confirmed.
I knew Lewis for a couple years. Saw each other often. He was a good man. A unique character. And a person who may have been hiding parts of himself under his outer layers.
He had a good sense of humor. He was a hard worker, reliable and pretty upfront. He rode life like his motorcycle, through the rain, often solo, and without much worldly baggage.
At least that was / is my impression of him.
I can still see his big smile and hear his laugh now.
Fair thee well, Brother.

Sad that it took so long.

N/E of Rohner Park? Was that the loop?
That used to be a well traveled trail.

That trail is quite busy I don’t think they found them near that trail. IIRC, they found him behind the shooting range.

I am pleased that they were able to identify the remains as those of Mr. Leckliter III. I pray that this will bring closure to his family and loved ones. RIP Lewis.

It is truly sad. These people that have went missing and are found very close to their last known location many months if not years later. Happens over and over again tragically. We put out these long distance flyers and searches in other counties and miles away when they were hundreds of feet from their last known location. ? RIP

From Times Standard:

“…an external examination of Leckliter’s remains by the Humboldt County Coroner’s Office found that he died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.”

Yeah. That’s what was suspected since he left his wallet and phone at home. Damn it! If I can speculate, and if one of the comments about where they found him is correct, it seemed calculated that he shot himself next to the shooting range, where people would not find it odd to hear gunfire. And, of course, would not call the police.
I wish he would have asked us if we could help him. And, sadly, I respect his choice.

From what I read (see above) there was no indication of that. And. A “self-inflicted gunshot wound” would indicate otherwise.
I wound what happened in the days or hours before he left his home for the last time. Not that it’s my business. It’s just part of wanting to know ‘why?’.
