In the last week, Mendocino County residents have had to grapple with the tragic news that two young women have been found dead and in both circumstances, law enforcement has characterized their deaths as “suspicious.”

The shared traits between these two deaths including their gender, their youth, their residence in Mendocino County, their characterization as “suspicious,” and the fact the cases emerged just days after each other have led many locals to speculate a serial killer is behind the deaths.

Mendocino County Sheriff Matt Kendall told us that after “exhaustive efforts of investigators” there is currently, “no connection between these two cases.”

Last Sunday, January 8, the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) announced they had recovered a body from a field near the intersection of Highway 101 and Geysers Road near the Mendocino/Sonoma County line. On Tuesday, January 11, SCSO Sergeant Juan Valencia revealed the body was that of 33-year-old Amber Dillon, a Willits woman whose death he deemed “suspicious.”

News of the second death broke on the same day that SCSO identified Dillon. Initially, a dead body was reported in the vicinity of Ukiah’s Christy Lane. Three days later, the decedent found near Christy Lane was officially identified as 22-year-old Alyssa Mae Sawdey from Ukiah.

The press release indicated MCSO conducted a forensic autopsy on her body and results are pending and expected to take several weeks. As of now, the press release stated Sawdey’s death is considered “suspicious.”

Regarding Dillon, Sheriff Kendall told us he could not comment due to the case being under the SCSO’s jurisdiction.

“[I]f I thought we had a serial killer out there, the public would be the first to know,” Sheriff Kendall reassured the community.

Both MCSO and SCSO are asking the public for information regarding the respective cases. If you know anything about the circumstances surrounding Dillon’s death, contact Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office at (707) 565-2650. If you have information about Sawdey’s death, contact Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office at 707-234-2100 or the WeTip anonymous crime reporting hotline at 800-782-7463.

The serial killer isn’t necessarily a person so to say. It’s the addiction EPIDEMIC in our communities dragging the people down.

I don’t believe that MCSO or SCSO would let the public know. If they suspect a serial killer why would they say that if they don’t know for sure? I think the general public should act as if there is a serial killer on the loose up here. Think about it?

It would be as a precaution for public safety, with an eye on liability issues. Probably such an announcement would be drafted by the Sheriff and vetted by the County’s legal staff.

There have been MANY serial killers in this region. I suspect that there is most likely ALWAYS one at work here.
Look at the list of unsolved murdered & missing women and consider….

In general we should always suspect there could be a possible serial killer around. Does it really take murders to happen before we open our eyes and start being cautious? I never understood why parents aren’t worried about their kids walking home from school Going to the store alone ECT. Could be weird people anywhere just waiting for an opportunity. Prevention is better than waiting for terrible things to happen.

Yep, we probably should never let any children go anywhere alone ever on the off chance that there’s a serial killer lying in wait. Sounds reasonable.

So they can’t release any information. That would mean they can’t confirm or deny anything. If it is a serial killer they can’t comment on it.

Very sad. It should not matter whether or not they were “troubled” etc., their humanity is enough. Obviously some bad work has been done and needs to be looked into, as well as the disappearance of other women. I wonder, if these victims were two young murdered white males, would the response from the police be so nonchalant. Just a thought.

I guess you don’t follow news and social media much. You would no doubt heard of “missing white woman syndrome”. But I agree, tired of the nonchalance.

Sarah smile. (you know the hall and oats song? Reminds me of the good old days,).
It would not but it would also be very low on the totem pole. The sherrife discovers clues and crimes through a process of dumbfounded luck. Every office is overwhelmed. They take it as it comes and it comes. Boy does it keep on coming. My oldest daughter is a sheriff deputy and her days are ful of BS hunts for morons who mis-stepped twice.

White women are at the top of the concern list, White men are below them and then everybody else below that depending on race and gender.

Just saying I can’t get used to (because they are not mainstream “acceptable”) Americans not being protected by law enforcement. This story shows we have a big problem here in Mendo, which cost two people their lives. That should be big news and get the police hopping, but instead it’s just “Oh well”? Police overlook those who are not upstanding, well-connected citizens, pillar-of-the-community types. We have to protect ALL people from crimes! I would like to see the police being a bit more earnest in adhering to their duty in this regard.

The river location is someone looking for cleansing absolution. Or to remove evidence linking them to the crime. I believe there is a serial killer and that he is in brooktrails and leaves bodies on the Willits/ft Bragg rd. I don’t believe that he was involved in either of these cases. Then there is the infamous woman burner.

See this comment section for the reason the sheriff felt it necessary to say that there is no indication of a serial killer.

I guess Sheriff Kendall forgot about one of the people charged with “Fat Paul’s” murder, and that he was out of jail at the time of this article, about to kidnap, (and who probably killed), a young woman, Naomi Irion, within 2 months from now he article.
